Contemporary associations for the support of art and artists in Prague and their role in society

    No full text
Adéla Šatalíková: Současné spolky pro podporu umění a umělců v Praze a jejich role ve společnosti Abstract The thesis will explore arts support societies in 2024, artists, their role in integrating the new artist into the visual arts scene, and finally the value of these organisations to society. I will begin by briefly describing the history and principles of arts support societies between 1950 and 2015, and in the following chapters I will look in more detail at a selection of five arts support societies. The societies that I discuss in detail in this thesis must meet the criteria of available studios (spaces for artists), organizing workshops, educational or financial support, exhibition activities, and community building. Next, I will delve deeper into the structure of the associations and their various activities described above, opening up topics such as the funding of these organizations and generally describing potential problems. I will conclude the thesis by summarizing the insights gained from my research, and ask the questions of whether the sample of organizations meet the given criteria of cultural contribution to society and support for young artists; what issues are present; and if solutions can be proposed. Keywords Art support associations, Art organisations, Art history, Cultural policy,..

Photography from a Female Perspective: Social and Cultural Influences in the Work of Libuše Jarcovjáková in Comparison with Nan Goldin and Cindy Sherman

    No full text
Anotace, anglicky The bachelor's thesis focuses on the cultural and social influences in the work of Libuše Jarcovjáková and their comparison with the works of American photographers Nan Goldin and Cindy Sherman. It first examines the historical and social context of the time in which these artists created, with an emphasis on the contrast between totalitarian Czechoslovakia and the United States of that era. The main focus is on Libuše Jarcovjáková, a Czech photographer whose work reflects life under the influence of the totalitarian regime as well as her exposure to Western culture. Subsequently, the thesis explores N. Goldin and C. Sherman, analyzing similarities and differences in their work, expressions of identity, and the impact of historical conditions on their art

On the choice of the higher order DMD mode part for projection to physical coordinates

    No full text
Higher-order dynamic mode decomposition (HODMD) was proposed as a more robust extension of classical dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) designed to overcome DMD’s main weaknesses, i.e. susceptibility to noise and inability to capture highly non-linear dynamics. In this study, we try to tie up one of the remaining loose ends of the HODMD. Particularly, each HODMD mode comprises multiple parts that can be projected back to the physical coordinates. Consequently, there is an apparent ambiguity in which part of the HODMD mode to select for projection back to physical coordinates. This ambiguity is present even in the most recent literature and is nowhere explained properly. However, we state a lemma, supported by proof, that the choice of the HODMD mode part does not matter. Then, the equivalence of HODMD mode parts is illustrated on a HODMD analysis of a wake behind a cylinder in a crossflow at Re ≈ 5000

    No full text
Dear colleagues,\nWe are pleased to present to you the Book of Abstracts containing the professional contributions from the Czech Meteorological Conference 2025, held in Prague at the Klementinum.\nMeteorological conferences organized by the Czech Meteorological Society—formerly the Czechoslovak Meteorological Society—have a long tradition and attract great interest from experts across the Czech Republic working in meteorology, climatology, and related fields.\nThis year marks 250 years since the beginning of continuous measurements at the Prague Klementinum, and part of the conference contributions are dedicated to this anniversary, which is significant not only for the Czech meteorological community but also on a global scale. From historical perspectives, the conference also moves toward current research topics and ongoing projects.\nThe broad scope of meteorology and climatology is reflected in the conference program. For example, it includes contributions focused on urban-scale modeling, as well as those dealing with large-scale circulation. Some papers present results from the PERUN project, while others address modern methods of weather observation.\nWe believe that the conference program offers participants and all those interested in meteorology and climatology a wide range of engaging and valuable topics

The Czech system of financial support for university students: flawed, full of loopholes, and outdated

    No full text
Direct financial support for university students in the Czech Republic is extremely low by EU27 and OECD standards. It is distributed broadly and is targeted only ineffectively towards economically disadvantaged students. Indirect support is primarily provided through income tax deductions and parental tax bonuses, which limits and can even exclude support for students from weaker socioeconomic backgrounds. Almost all forms of support end when a student reaches the age of 26, despite a significant number of older students. Due to budgetary constraints, the Czech Republic has not yet introduced a long-term self-financing system of regulated student loans or repayable grants, which exist in a number of OECD countries

    Structural Learning of BN2A models

    No full text
Bayesian networks are a popular framework for modeling probabilistic relationships between random variables and have been used successfully in educational tests. There is interest in a particular type of Bayesian networks we have called BN2A, which are characterized as bipartite networks, where the first layer consists of hidden variables (which commonly represent skills) and the second layer consists of observed variables (which represent questions in a test). In BN2A models all variables are assumed to be binary. The variables in the second layer depend on the variables in the first layer and this dependence is characterized by conditional probability tables representing Noisy-AND models. In this work, we propose an Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm for learning the structure of BN2A models, that is, for learning the relationship between hidden variables and observed variables. To test the structural learning algorithm, we conducted two experiments. For the first experiment, we used synthetic data generated from a BN2A model that we previously defined, while for the second experiment we used a well-known real-world dataset in the field of Cognitive Diagnostic Models, the Fraction Subtraction dataset. Our proposed algorithm has interesting potential use cases. One key application is to generate a reasonably accurate BN2A structure model for educational diagnosis, particularly in scenarios where no prior model exists. Depending on the required level of accuracy, the estimated model can be used directly to analyze skill profiles or serve as an initial framework for test designers, who can further refine it before implementation

    Personality: Behavioural Tasks

    No full text
This dissertation thesis focuses on different ways of testing for stable inter-individual differences in behaviour (personality) in two species of rats from the genus Rattus. Even though the studies differ substantially in their design and specific aims, most of the methods used in this thesis are derived from Open field task and focus on exploration. In study I and II we tested laboratory Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) and aimed to describe their personality, behavioural syndromes, cognitive repeatability, and personality-cognition link. In studies III, IV, and V we focused on wild-derived black rats (Rattus rattus) - a species closely related to the Norway rat, which is similarly "problematic pest", as it can also be found around the whole world, it is also a major pest and can transmit diseases and pose threat to indigenous fauna and flora. In contrast with the laboratory Norway rat, the black rat is seldom studied and most studies focusing on this species address the effectivity of eradication methods rather than behaviour or ecology of the black rat itself. Our focus in these studies was quite different - we tested the black rats in various behavioural tasks and focused on their behaviour, specifically exploration, movement in space, scent marking, and olfactory discrimination. The common aim..

Pre-service Teacher Education in Times of Change: From Professional Competence to Professional Self-concept

    No full text
The author's commentary builds on the previously published study "The Influence of Undergraduate Education on Professional Beginnings in School Practice from the Perspective of Novice Teachers" (Rajsiglová & Přibylová, 2020), which explores how novice teachers perceive their pre-service education. The aim of the commentary is to place the findings of the original study in the context of current research and assess their significance in terms of professional self-concept, which represents a common denominator of the (un)successes of novice teachers. This reflection is framed by recent changes in educational policy, especially the Competency Framework for Teacher Education Graduates, which specifies the required competencies of future teachers, and the Framework Requirements for Study Programs, which introduce, among other things, an increase in the scope of teaching practices and greater flexibility in the organization of teacher education programs. The commentary further summarizes and integrates suggestions derived from research studies that can contribute to a closer connection between theory and practice - both through a reflective approach to teaching practices and through the use of constructivist approaches to learning. Finally, the text highlights the importance of collaboration between..

Pup Play in Relation to Erotic Target Identity Inversion and Paraphilic Patterns

    No full text
7 Abstract This master's thesis explores the phenomenon known as pup play in relation to Erotic Target Identity Inversion (ETII) and paraphilic interests. Pup play represents a form of role play involving the imitation of young dogs - for example, wearing a dog mask or adopting a playful, submissive behaviour and mindset. ETII refers to a concept in which individuals derive sexual arousal from embodying or identifying as the object of their attraction. The first research objective of this thesis was to assess the extent to which pup play participants meet ETII criteria and to compare these findings to an existing sample from the furry community. To qualify as ETII, pup play participants would need to be sexually attracted not only to other human pups but also aroused by the fantasy or act of being human pups themselves. This further involves modifying their behaviour and appearance to align with their pup identity. ETII can be conceptualized as a type of paraphilia, which refers to a persistent and intense pattern of sexual arousal elicited by atypical objects (e.g., fetishistic items, children, animals) or activities (e.g., coercive acts, serious bodily harm). Paraphilic interests commonly co-occur, especially among non-heterosexual males. The second objective was to investigate the presence of paraphilic..
