Anti-Regime Provocations in the Early 1950s - A Comparison of the "Babice" and "Slepička" Cases

    No full text
This bachelor's thesis compares two anti-regime events from the first half of the 1950s in Czechoslovakia: the Babice case and the case of František Slepička. Both cases occurred in regions that showed significant resistance to the communist regime. The author focuses on the personalities of the main actors, the context of their activities, the state of the anti-communist resistance, and the operations of the security forces. The thesis not only compares the common features of both cases but also pays attention to the differences in the activities of the two central figures. A significant part of the thesis is devoted to the study of primary sources, especially archival documents from the security forces, which helps to expand the understanding of the little-explored case of František Slepička. The aim of the thesis is to show to what extent these events were spontaneous acts of resistance and to what extent they may have been influenced by the regime's strategy of orchestrating crises in problematic regions

United States policy towards Philippine territory during the interwar period of 1918-1941

    No full text
This bachelor's thesis examines U.S. policy toward the Philippines during the interwar period. It aims to analyze US policy on the issue of sovereignty over the Philippines, specifically focusing on whether US policy, between World War I and World War II, tended towards granting independence or the annexation of the Philippines as another US state. The Philippines was an important American territory that was treated inconsistently by American policy during this period. This thesis traces the causes of change and the nature of U.S. policy toward the Philippines - how it has changed with different presidential administrations and what factors have influenced it. Using a historical method based on qualitative analysis of primary and secondary sources, this thesis summarizes America's policy toward the Philippines. The first chapter examines developments prior to the interwar period itself. The second chapter discusses the abandonment of President Woodrow Wilson's policies and the Republican policies that prevailed until the mid-1930s, and the third chapter examines the changes in the 1930s that contributed to the abandonment of previous Republican policies. The last chapter discusses the influence of Filipino politicians on American attitudes toward the Philippines, as they had a considerable degree..

Short-term sperm storage is an effective and affordable method to support aquaculture management and captive fish breeding programs. It allows fish milt to be stored for advanced molecular studies, quality analyses, hatchery production support, disease diagnosis, cryopreservation, etc. Using an appropriate immobilization solution, in conjunction with suitable sperm storage conditions, can successfully preserve sperm quality during short-term preservation. However, short-term sperm preservation often reduces sperm morphological characteristics and functional quality. Therefore, the primary goals of my PhD study were to: i) standardize short-term sperm storage by using suitable extenders and activation solutions; ii) extend the sperm storage period; validate the effect of various storage regulators on sperm quality enhancement through fertilization and hatching assays; and iii) investigate the effects of sperm handling methods. Health conditions, age, nutritional state, hormone dosage, and environmental parameters can all impact common carp sperm. Chapter 2 reviews and highlights recent statistics on global fish and carp aquaculture output, short-term storage of common carp sperm, and the impact of storage on spermatozoa function, considering the variables that affect sperm quality during storage. It also emphasizes the knowledge gap that must be addressed to develop techniques for short-term storage in common carp breeding programs that extend beyond laboratory testing. In Chapter 3, the study evaluated the effectiveness of carp extender dilution time after sperm collection and the ability of common carp sperm to fertilize and hatch under hatchery conditions. The results showed that common carp sperm diluted with extenders can successfully maintain sperm motility for up to seven days, whereas undiluted sperm lose their motility after three days of storage. Based on the results of the fertilization and hatching assays, seven days of stored diluted pooled sperm yielded a 68.29% fertilization rate and a 55.60% hatching success, compared to fresh sperm with 89.34 % fertilization and 78.06 % hatching rates. In Chapter 4, the effects of various activation solutions (hatchery water, Perchec solution, and Cheng solution) on aging common carp sperm were examined after being stored in carp artificial seminal plasma (carp ASP) for seven days at 4 °C without antibiotics. The results showed that both hatchery water and Perchec solution activation led to fertilization rates of 85?87% and hatching rates of 78?81% after seven days of sperm storage in carp ASP. In conclusion, it was confirmed that aged common carp sperm diluted with carp ASP can successfully fertilize eggs when activated with various solutions for use in aquaculture. Sturgeon aquaculture is growing worldwide, but techniques for artificial reproduction to provide the necessary male gametes are still being developed. Chapter 5 formulated the optimum composition of extenders based on seminal plasma composition data and by manipulating K+ and Na+ concentrations for the short-term storage of sterlet sperm. This study demonstrates that the best extenders for short-term sterlet sperm storage have higher osmolality and lower K+ concentrations compared to seminal plasma. In Chapter 6, the research study sought to assess the fertilizing potential of sterlet sperm and hatching success in sterlet while evaluating the impact of appropriate extenders during short-term storage of sperm. The study showed that sterlet sperm diluted with the suggested extenders could preserve sperm functionality for up to six days, achieving a fertilization rate of 30.67?31.66% and a hatching success rate of 27.95?30.50% compared to stored control without fertility and hatching. Thus, using appropriate extenders to maintain sperm quality during short-term preservation could provide improved fertilization results and help conserve genetic diversity, especially for endangered fish species

Care for the frontline nurses during the pandemic

    No full text
The thesis brings answers how the frontline nurses handled the covid-19 pandemic. The view of the doctors, who work alongside with the nurses, has shown, by using methods of sociological research, how some of the roles of nurses changed during the pandemic, and not only in covid-19 dedicated units. The thesis also determines the workload that nurses faced during the covid-19 pandemic, and how significantly this manifested in various domains of the nursing profession and especially in the nurses´ quality of life and their health. The nurses´ attitudes to covid-19 vaccination are reviewed. The last part of the thesis studies certain aspects of the nurses´ preparedness for a future pandemic

Research and Development of Additively Manufactured Lattice Structures

    No full text
Spojení mikro-prutových struktur a hořčíkových slitin navíc potenciálně umožňuje výrobu biodegradabilních implantátů, které svojí strukturou podpoří prorůstání kostní tkáně a zároveň budou mít mechanické vlastnosti blízké kostní tkáni díky hořčíkové slitině.
