Unraveling the Contaminated Tradition: Medieval Dreambooks in Bohemical Manuscripts

    No full text
This dissertation deals with the reception and textual tradition of the medieval dreambooks Somniale Danielis and Somniale Joseph in the Bohemian context. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the surviving Bohemical copies of these texts, identify their specific features, and for- mulate hypotheses about their interrelationships. The work is divided into two main parts: a philological one and a methodological-experimental one. The first part is devoted to a comparative analysis of seven Latin and one Old Czech copy of the Somniale Danielis and five copies of the mantic alphabet Somniale Joseph preserved in Bohemical manuscripts. The analysis points to a high degree of textual contamination in the Somniale Danielis, which makes it difficult to reconstruct direct genealogical links using clas- sical methods. In the case of Somniale Joseph, on the other hand, two distinct textual branches were identified. This part also includes an analysis and edition of the previously unknown polemical text Utrum somniis est credendum, which was found in connection with one of the copies of Somniale Danielis and which uses Robert Holcot's commentary on the Book of Wisdom as its main source. The second, methodological part of the thesis explores the possibilities of using modern com- putational methods for the..

Effect of fatty acids on platelet reactivity

Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology Student: Lukáš Toman Supervisor: PharmDr. Alejandro Carazo, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: The effect of fatty acids on platelet reactivity Cardiovascular diseases are among the most common causes of mortality, with platelets and their aggregatory capacity playing a crucial role. Excessive platelet aggregation leads to thrombus formation, which can ultimately occlude a vessel and result in serious, potentially fatal outcomes. In addition to standard pharmacotherapy, supportive treatments are often applied. It is well established that fatty acids from the omega-3 and omega-6 groups exert beneficial effects by reducing platelet aggregation. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the less explored omega-9 fatty acids on platelet reactivity. Within this group, oleic, nervonic, elaidic, and erucic acids were tested. Platelet aggregation was assessed using turbidimetric and impedance aggregometry. In parallel, the effect of the selected fatty acids on the coagulation cascade was evaluated by measuring aPTT, PT, and TT. None of the tested substances demonstrated a pro-aggregatory effect. The results revealed inhibitory activity of elaidic, nervonic, and erucic acids, while oleic acid showed..

The way to marriage for all - a legal analysis of the differences in the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany

    No full text
This bachelor's thesis presents a comparative legal analysis of the possibility for same-sex couples to enter marriage in the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany. The primary aim is to identify and assess the differences in the legislative frameworks and highlight their impact on the legal status of LGBTQIA+ individuals in each country. The research is based on the method of comparative legal analysis and is supported by academic literature, legal norms, and case law relevant to the subject matter. The thesis examines the historical development of the legal recognition of same-sex relationships, focusing on significant legislative changes and societal attitudes in the selected countries. It evaluates the introduction and current state of legal institutions such as registered partnerships and marriage equality, as well as the legal possibilities of adoption and recognition of foreign unions. The analysis reveals that Germany offers the most advanced legal framework for same-sex couples, granting them full marital rights including adoption. Slovakia, on the contrary, continues to resist any formal recognition of such relationships and maintains a strict constitutional definition of marriage. The Czech Republic, while making progress, still lacks full marriage..

Constructing the "Migration Crisis": A Critical Discourse Analysis of Dutch Media Representations

    No full text

Polyploidy and diversity of reproductive modes in the genus Malus

    No full text
Although the genus Malus includes some of the most important cultivated plants, surprisingly little is known about it from a biological point of view. Polyploidy occurs both between species and within the wide cultural variation of the hybridogenous species Malus domestica. A significantly neglected and still only marginally studied phenomenon is the occurrence of apomixis, not only in wild species but also in cultivated apple trees. This thesis uses available material from germplasm orchards and arboreta to comprehensively screen for polyploidy and apomixis by flow cytometry (FCM and FCSS). The obtained results are compared between groups of wild Malus species and traditional and modern Malus domestica cultivars, as well as between different ploidy levels. The results confirmed the high incidence of apomixis in some species of the genus Malus and revealed a complex reproductive system that includes both sexual reproduction and different types of apomixis: pseudogamy, autonomous apomixis and haploid parthenogenesis. In addition, apomixis has also been observed at the diploid level in several hybridogenous species, including Malus domestica. Significant differences in the incidence of apomixis were found both between the groups studied (wild species of the genus Malus, traditional and modern..
