Divided Mediascape: The Impact of Media Polarization on Journalism in India

    No full text
Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tím, jak politická polarizace ovlivňuje zpravodajství a produkci zpráv v Indii. Pomocí kvalitativní rámcová analýzy dvou ideologicky odlišných zpravodajských médií - The Wire, nezávislého liberálního média, a Op India, pravicového nacionalistického média - zkoumá, jak se mediální narativ liší v reakci na dvě politicky citlivé události: zrušení článku 370 v Kašmíru (2019) a protesty zemědělců proti zákonu o obchodu se zemědělskými produkty (The Farming Produce Trade and Commerce Act, 2020 | Make in India).

    No full text
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to determine which factors in the Slovak parliamentary elections held on September 30, 2023 most strongly contributed to the electoral success of Progresívne Slovensko and HLAS - sociálna demokracia, and which, by contrast, led to the failure of REPUBLIKA and Demokrati. Based on these findings, this thesis delineates the conditions new political parties must satisfy to achieve electoral success and become relevant actors in the political arena. The theoretical basis for this thesis is the framework introduced by Paul Lucardie in his study Prophets, purifiers and prolocutors: Towards a theory on the emergence of new parties (2000), further elaborated by Allan Sikk (2012). The first chapter defines new political parties, reviews theoretical approaches to explaining their success and their relationship to anti-party sentiment, and presents the concepts developed by Lucardie and Sikk that focus on the causes of new parties' success. The second chapter describes the research methodology applied to the 2023 elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic. The third chapter analyzes the development of the selected new parties in Slovakia and identifies the factors that contributed to their electoral outcomes. The concluding chapter summarizes the key findings..

This thesis explores the provision of senior home care by the municipality of Prague 42 in the context of the ongoing transformation of social services. The aim of the thesis is to understand the practices and imaginaries related to care provision, with a focus on meal distribution, and to analyze how actors negotiate the provision of care within the framework of transformation policies. The thesis is grounded in feminist political economy and draws on the approach of state ethnography. Ethnographic research was conducted within the care service using methods of participant observation and semi- structured interviews. Interviews were carried out with a municipal councillor, staff of the care centre, and senior women and men. Participant observation focused on the everyday practices associated with care provision. The thesis argues that the distribution of meals to seniors is a care activity that is part of a complex network of caregiving relationships between senior citizens and the local state. It explores how the municipal administration and the care service translate transformation policies- interweaving processes of marketization, re-familialization, and deinstitutionalization-in ways that (re)produce a caring state. Finally, the thesis examines how actors engage with the concept of active..
