Tomáš BÁRTA PRAŽÁK, Baroque humanist-preacher Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein at the Metropolitan Chapter of St. Vitus in Prague, Praha 2023. Abstract The dissertaon presents the personality of Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein through his own work in one of the stages of his life before he became bishop in Litoměřice. The actual content is divided into two main secons: 1. Introductory study on the personality of Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein, and 2. Edion of manuscript sermons. In the first part, Waldstein is presented in a broader context in the form of a biography, highlighng the significance of his extensive writen estate, which is also presented here; what is not neglected, of course, is Waldstein's preaching acvity including the interpretaon of selected texts. Some data within Waldstein's biography have been revised, for example, informaon about his birth and leisure acvies. Among other things, informaon on some sources has been clarified. As far as Waldstein's sermons themselves are concerned, it is obvious that he reflected contemporary pracce in them, using the current knowledge and relevant facts of the cited authories. For the second part of the dissertaon, the primary source was a set of sermon concepts of 1746-1755 writen by Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein, which were mostly writen in Czech (only..

Memory Activation in Neural Networks of the Brain

The processes of association and separation of individual mental representations are essential for normal cognitive functions. They are vital for both non- declarative and declarative memory, especially for semantic memory, episodic memory, symbolic language, imagination and spatial orientation. Distruptions in these phenomena can have profound consequences leading to pathological conditions such as dementia or psychosis. Hippocampus, being the centerpoint of the declarative memory system, offers a valuable window for studying the formation, reactivation and modification of memory traces. Insight into mechanisms of hippocampal spatial coding provides a uniquely transparent view on neural representations, whose dynamical nature is central to processes of thought and cognition in general. Evolutionary preservation of the hippocampus and medial temporal lobe memory system enables us to study building blocks of complex phenomena, such as episodic memory, in simpler animal models. My thesis focuses on the dynamics of awake reactivation of hippocampal place cell population patterns from different environmental contexts. This ability is supposedly a key prerequisite for declarative, conscious recollection we can observe in humans. We discovered that rat models are capable of reactivating neuronal codes..

Conducting polymers-based films for energy conversion and storage

Conducting polymers-based films for energy conversion and storage ABSTRACT Polypyrrole (PPy) is one of the most promising conducting polymers owing to its excellent conductivity, redox properties, and stability. The aim to develop PPy nanostructures is to significantly improve PPy's conductivity and electroactivity relevant for high performance supercapacitors. Recently, the addition of organic dyes to the polymerization of pyrrole has noticeable influence on the morphology, conductivity, and electrochemical stability of PPy. The presence of organic dyes during the chemical and electrochemical polymerization of PPy has the ability to modify the typical globular morphology of PPy to nanotubes or nanofibers with enhanced conductivity. In this study, the electrochemical properties of chemically and electrochemically prepared PPy in the presence of Safranin-O, Acid Blue 25, Acid Blue 129 and methyl orange were investigated. Specifically, electroactivity, capacitance, stability, and morphology of the obtained films were elucidated through various characterization techniques (i.e. cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy). Results showed that the presence of organic dyes during the electrochemical polymerization of PPy has shown a..

Public Health Communication in Obesity Prevention: Insights into the Current Media Space, Influencer Communication and Audience Preception

    No full text
The dissertation focuses on the issue of public health communication in the field of obesity prevention, with an emphasis on the role of media and influencers in shaping the perception of this topic among target audiences. In the context of the growing prevalence of obesity in the Czech Republic, which affects more than 60% of the population, the work analyses how messages related to obesity and healthy lifestyles are presented in the media space and how these messages are perceived by the public. In its analytical part, the dissertation examines how media representation of obesity in Czech media has changed over the past two decades and the influence of digital media, especially social networks and influencers, on perceptions of a healthy lifestyle and body image. Theories of social comparison and objectification play a key role, applied to analyse how women with a BMI over 25 are influenced by media content and what consequences this has on their self-esteem and behaviour. The discussion section explores the connection between current theoretical concepts and empirical data obtained from in-depth interviews and content analysis of media content on social networks. The conclusions indicate that media messages, especially from influencers, play a significant role in shaping attitudes towards..

Kateřina Jeřábková’s Fiction Library as Publishing Company

    No full text
Recent works on the Bibliotéka českých původních románů historických i novověkých (Library of Czech original historical and modern novels) by the Prague printer and publisher Kateřina Jeřábková – including one work by Zuzana Urválková – tend to characterize it as a key literary project of the 1850s that, in its time, provoked an extraordinary critical response. Much remains to be clarified, however, about the circumstances under which the library, in the context of the contemporary book market, was established, promoted, operated, and eventually went defunct at the turn of 1860 and 1861. The present study addresses this issue by examining a number of printed reports, advertisements, publishers’ statements, and similar materials. With some exceptions, documentation from the publisher’s estate has not been preserved
