Robot as a Stranger: An Analysis of the Evolution of a Literary Minority in Science Fiction

    No full text
The dissertation analyzes literary representations of robots in the science fiction genre from the perspective of imagology and comparative literary analysis. It examines how robots are constructed as the "Other" and to what extent their portrayal reflects stereotypical mechanisms typical of the representation of ethnic groups. The analysis is conducted on three levels. Intertextual analysis maps the development of the literary ethnotype of the robot from early representations of artificial beings to its establishment within the science fiction genre. Contextual analysis focuses on Asimov's literary works and the period between the 1930s and the 1970s, exploring how technological, social, and cultural transformations influenced the perception of robots. Additionally, it explores Asimov's literary works to highlight the most significant instances where stereotypes intersect and influence the portrayal of robots. Textual analysis, applied to Isaac Asimov's short story The Bicentennial Man, illustrates how intertextual tradition and historical context are reflected in a specific literary work and how the robot is constructed as a subject. Asimov's The Bicentennial Man confirms the tendency of science fiction literature to reflect questions of emancipation, in which the robot, as a literary ethnotype,..

5 Abstract The aim of this bachelor thesis was to analyse the impact of excessive body weight on pregnancy progression and the mode of delivery among women with overweight or obesity. The research was conducted through a retrospective quantitative questionnaire survey involving 105 respondents. After excluding multiple pregnancies, women with type 1 diabetes, and incomplete records, data from 72 women were analysed. The average BMI before pregnancy was 28.48, increasing to 33.33 in the third trimester and reaching 29.79 after the postpartum period. These findings indicate that a significant proportion of the women entered pregnancy already overweight or obese, with most retaining increased body weight even after childbirth. The analysis showed that among obese women (BMI g 30), the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) was considerably higher (39.3 %), as well as pregnancy-induced hypertension (32.1 %) and preeclampsia (21.4 %). Furthermore, women who reported higher levels of physical activity had lower average BMI during pregnancy and after delivery. The results also indicated that women with lower BMI more frequently reported strong emotional support from their partner, which may contribute to improved psychological well- being and better adherence to a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy...

    No full text
This thesis focuses on the intersubjective experiences of Ukrainian refugees with the immigration bureaucracy in the Czech Republic. The research aims to understand how Ukrainian refugees perceive their interactions with Czech immigration authorities, identify the main obstacles they face in administrative processes, and describe the strategies they use to navigate and cope with bureaucratic situations. The thesis combines theoretical insights on migration policy with the theory of new institutionalism; specifically, sociological institutionalism and rational choice institutionalism were selected. The practical part of the research includes 11 semi-structured interviews with refugees who came to the Czech Republic after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. The data were analysed using thematic analysis to identify key themes, including strategies such as seeking support in the community or adapting to inflexible bureaucratic rules. The research shows that Ukrainian refugees' experiences of the Czech immigration bureaucracy are highly varied and influenced by both the institutional environment and individual strategies of action. The main barriers identified were language ignorance, inconsistent information or administrative complexities, as well as different forms of adaptation and circumvention of the..

    No full text
In the thesis we focus on the development of a 2D action sandbox game in the style of the popular game Terraria using the Unity game engine. We went through important aspects of the various game genres and created a game design document, where we put these aspects together with the inspiration from Terraria to create the resulting game. The thesis contains a detailed analysis of the game design document, where we discuss topics like the artificial inteligence of enemies, procedural world generation and saving the game. The result of the thesis is an implemented game for the operating system Windows, in which the player walks around the generated world, mines materials and searches for items. The items are subsequently used to upgrade the player character and to fight with enemies and powerful bosses

Title: Influence of a once-weekly sports club with gymnastics elements on children's balance and coordination Objectives: The main objective is to determine whether regular participation in a sports club with gymnastics elements affects the coordination and balance of children aged 7-9 years. The sub-objectives are to compare changes in coordination and balance between children who participate in a sports club with gymnastics elements and their classmates who do not. And to determine whether any differences between the two groups are statistically significant. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study that uses methods of measurement, intervention, analysis and comparison. The research sample consisted of children aged 7-9 years with an average height of 130.8 cm and an average weight of 27.6 kg. The children were divided into two groups - experimental and control. The experimental group participated in a four-month intervention program in the form of a regular sports activity with elements of gymnastics, while the control group did not participate in this program. Two measurements were conducted in total: the first before the start of the intervention and the second after its completion. Performance was assessed in four motor tests - two focused on coordination (K-test, jumping rope) and two..

Title: Mood changes after cold water immersion in PE students Aim: The aim of this bachelor thesis is to assess the impact of regular cold-water immersion on mood changes in students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Charles University. Methods: The research involved male students of FTVS aged 20-26, divided into two groups - experimental (cold water immersion) and control (no immersion). The cold exposure intervention followed a pre-defined plan of thirty immersions. Over a ten-week period during winter, both groups regularly completed the standardized POMS questionnaire, which measures six mood dimensions: anger, fatigue, depression, confusion, tension, and vigor. The questionnaire was also administered once more six weeks after the intervention ended. Results: Based on the average results from the POMS questionnaire (scale 0-4, where 0 = not at all, 4 = very much), the anger dimension in the cold-water group ranged from 1.1 (start), to 1.0 (end of intervention), and back to 1.1 (after 6 weeks), while in the control group it decreased from 1.4 to 0.9. Fatigue in the cold-water group dropped from 1.7 to 1.0 during the intervention and rose to 1.5 after six weeks; in the control group it decreased from 2.4 to 1.1. Depression remained between 0.6-0.5 in the cold-water group and between..

A comprehensive metabolomic analysis of natural vanilloids from Capsicum spp. and their activation of TRPV1

    No full text
Interest in high-protein foods is growing significantly. There is also increasing interest in plant-based proteins, although their quality in terms of essential amino acids, absorption, and digestibility remains controversial. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to provide experimental data on the nutritional and sensory quality of selected high-protein products available on the Czech market. A total of eight samples of protein cookies and eight samples of protein granolas were analysed. Nutritional quality was determined through chemical analysis. Dry matter was determined by gravimetry, protein content by the Kjeldahl method, and fat content by the Soxhlet extraction. Fatty acid composition was analysed by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector (GC/FID). Carbohydrate content was calculated based on the obtained and declared data. The sensory quality of the samples was evaluated by sensory analysis. In terms of nutritional quality, the samples varied. Fat was determined in the range of 7,45-31,89 g/100 g and protein 17,77-28,1 g/100 g. The calculated carbohydrate content ranged from 17,30-62,32 g/100 g. The dry matter content was determined in the range of 86,80-97,33 g/100 g. The proportion of saturated fatty acids was 11,90-76,25%; trans isomers of fatty acids did not exceed 0,57% of..
