Gandhari and Mandodari as Mothers and Wives in the Sanskrit Epics
This bachelor's thesis focuses on two minor characters in ancient Indian epics, the queens Gāndhārī (Mahābhārata) and, Maṇḍodarī (Rāmāyaṇa), who are the wives of the antagonists of the main story, Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Rāvaṇa, and revered paragons of female virtue. Using literary analysis, the thesis focuses on the direct and indirect characterization of the characters in the epics and the various roles of women during their lives (virgin, wife, mother, widow), and concentrates on the prescriptions of the codes (especially the Manu Code) to the various ideals of each period. One research topic is the concept of the ideal wife (pativratā) in the epics, because for Gāndhārī and Maṇḍodarī it is necessary to consider the tension between dharma as such (which their husbands oppose) and pativratā-dharma, which commands total devotion to the husband. A similar tension is observed in the maternal relationship of these women to their children (especially to Duryodhana, son of Gāndhārī, and Meghanāda/Indrajit, son of Maṇḍodarī), who also stand on the negative side. In this context, the study also examines the issue of vīramātṛ or the concept of 'mother of heroes' in the context of the stories of Gāndhārī i and Maṇḍodarī as well as other female characters who fall into this group, and extends it to include an..

The development of the programme's form is also summarized here and the reasons for its demise are sought. This is also used to describe the position of this type of television programme in the broader context of the indoor ball sports broadcasting on ČT sport in relation to the financial aspect,..
Return of Czechoslovak Legionnaires to the 1st Czechoslovak Republic and its reflection in the contemporary press
The aim of the master thesis entitled: The Return of Czechoslovak Legionnaires to the First Czechoslovak Republic and its reflection in the contemporary press is to compile a catalogue of articles from ten selected titles of the periodical press with a societal impact. The research is divided into the analysis and classification of the articles into the following four categories: the return of the legionaries to the First Czechoslovak Republic, the honouring of the legionaries, the legionaries in the midst of the internal and foreign political conflict, and the last category of others consists of articles that do not fit into the above three categories.Apart from the catalogue, the thesis also includes a brief history of some of the periodicals included in the catalogue. Particular attention is given to the legislative acts that concerned the regulation of the press in the years 1918-1920. In addition to the analytical method, the thesis employs inductive and deductive research methods
The meaning of print lifestyle magazines in the life of generation Z using Vogue CS as an example
This thesis focuses on the role of print lifestyle magazines in the lives of Generation Z, specifically using magazine Vogue CS as an example. The theoretical part of the thesis looks in detail at print media and its shift to the online environment, focusing on an analysis of the current situation in this area. The practical part of the thesis, in the form of semi-structured interviews and subsequent coding of the data from these interviews, seeks answers to questions regarding the relevance of print lifestyle magazines to Generation Z and examines whether the print version of these magazines remains attractive to this generation. The research found that print lifestyle magazines still have a place in the lives of Generation Z despite advances in digital technology. Although this generation does not primarily approach lifestyle magazines as a source of up-to-date information, they perceive their aesthetic importance and appreciate their sensory value. As a result of the online connectivity that this generation has all the time, thanks to the smartphones, offline activity such as consuming a printed magazine offers an escape from the world of constant notifications and is a special occasion that they set aside time for in their lives
Caribbean Banks' Profitability Amid Changing Macroeconomic Trends
This paper explores the determinants of commercial banks'profitability in the Caribbean and its surroundings. Profitability is measured using two variables: Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Assets (ROA). We find that growth in real Gross Domestic Product and growth in the Broad Money Aggregate positively influence ROE. Furthermore, a bank operating in a country with a fixed exchange rate regime is expected to have ROE at least 5% lower than a bank in a country with a floating exchange rate. Since most countries with fixed exchange rate regimes are small islands, we attribute this finding to their limited human resources to eRectively manage risk and maintain a proper lending portfolio. The US Treasury yield is an important predictor of ROE, supporting the region's financial link to the US. Moreover, the lag of ROE is a significant predictor of future ROE, supporting the notion that the market deviates from a perfect one. No bank-specific determinant appears to be relevant as a predictor of ROE. Taken together, the results indicate that the profitability of banks in the region is primarily influenced by external factors beyond their control. Nevertheless, our analysis lacked access to certain potentially important indicators that could capture bank specific characteristics more accurately. The results of ROA..
Application of Ecomap in Supporting Families Caring for a Member with a Health-Related Limitations
This thesis addresses the issue of informal care in the Czech Republic, focusing on the support provided to families caring for a member with a disability. The aim is to analyze the potential use of a tool called the ecomap in social work as a means of identifying and visualizing both supportive and burdensome relationships in the client's social environment. The thesis combines theoretical analysis with practical examples that illustrate the application of eco-maps in various long-term care contexts - including care for a child, a partner, and an elderly person. Methodologically, it is based on the analysis of professional literature and international studies, supplemented by practical testing of the tool in interventions with family caregivers. The results show that eco-maps can effectively help caregivers better understand their own situation, strengthen the use of previously overlooked resources, and serve as a valuable tool for social workers in providing targeted support - both individually and in the context of community planning. Eco-maps can also function as a connecting element at the intersection of health and social care, contributing to the clarity of shared caregiving arrangements. With further methodological development, this tool has the potential to improve the quality of provided..
Linguistic structure of selected prosaic works written by Pavel Růžek
The thesis focuses on a comprehensive linguistic and stylistic analysis of three prose collections by Pavel Růžek - Bez kůže (2010), Bez růže (2011) and Bez tebe (2022). The aim is to demonstrate how the author works with non-standard linguistic features on the spelling/graphic, morphological, lexical and syntactic levels. The theoretical part defines Růžek's position in the contemporary literary context, summarizes the previous reflection on his work and presents the basic features of the language of contemporary literature with special attention to general Czech, expressive devices, foreign and slang expressions. The practical part examines individual linguistic levels and analyses 31 short stories from 3 collections as a whole because of their thematic and stylistic interconnectedness

Modification of peptide substrate of pappalysins through introduction of pseudopeptide bond in the cleavage site
This bachelor thesis is focused on the preparation of a modified peptide based on the structure of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs), which are substrates of pappalysin metalloproteases (PAPPA-A, PAPP-A2). These enzymes regulate the bioavailability of insulin-like growth factors (IGF) by cleaving the IGFBPs. The peptide modification consists of the preparation of a pseudodipeptide block containing a phosphinate moiety P(O)OH-CH2 instead of a peptide bond, which mimics the tetrahedral transition state (TS) of amide hydrolysis. By inserting the block into the cleavage site of the peptide, a potential inhibitor of pappalysins could be prepared, which could be used as a medical drug for several diseases related to the activity of IGFs. The first part of the work is focused on the selection of a suitable starting peptide substrate. The second part is devoted to the preparation of the pseudodipeptide block, where two precursors corresponding to the amino acids forming the substrate cleavage site were prepared. The third part describes the synthesis of the peptide substrate by the solid-phase method, during which the prepared pseudodipeptide is incorporated into the structure. Key words IGFBP, Zn2+ metaloprotease, inhibitor, phosphinic aci
