Based on the results, the study concludes that perceived parents’ entrepreneurial passion, perceived desirability and perceived feasibility would stimulate attitude towards a career in technopreneurship and technopreneurship intention among Generation Z students

Beneath the lens: Exploring the impacts of underwater photographers in marine-based tourism

    Get PDF
As scuba diving proliferates in popularity as a nature-based recreational activity, the associated benefits and impacts are correspondingly emerging. Previous studies showed that underwater photographers are potentially the more impactful group of scuba divers. To further explore the impacts and behaviour of underwater photographers, this study attempted to predict their impacts through three photography-related variables, including species of interest, photography habit, and photography commitment through a case study in Hong Kong. A scuba diver survey was performed in summer 2021 to assess the impacts of divers, a follow-up questionnaire survey was delivered, and a total of 106 samples were collected. Findings showed that underwater photographers caused more negative impacts than ordinary scuba divers. Among underwater photographers, individuals more interested in conspicuous and actively moving species have more frequent contact with marine organisms. In contrast, those more interested in cryptic and sedentary species were more likely to cause intentional contact. Underwater photographers with greater commitment also showed more frequent and more intentional connections. Implications were drawn regarding underwater photographers' behaviors, and relevant suggestions were recommended to address the potential concerns

    Get PDF
In the wake of biblical trauma scholarship that identifies how traumatic experience has shaped biblical literatures and the Psalms in particular, interest has emerged in the potential therapeutic role of Psalm 90 in Christian-framed trauma therapies. Drawing on the SIFT approach to biblical hermeneutics, the present study tests the extent to which feeling types and thinking types read Psalm 90 differently. These two readings present different challenges working with this Psalm in trauma therapy

Reforming Vocational Education in the UK: The role of Vocational Education.

    Get PDF
Education is considered a tool for addressing issues in society. This paper identifies the role of education and how it fits with social theory. Through focusing on vocational education this article considers issues to address challenges within UK productivity, focusing on post-compulsory 16–19 years old education. The article finds that there is a limited appreciation of vocational education by society and that there have been numerous attempts to achieve parity with A levels, which has never been achieved. The article ends by providing a reflection on whether it is too early to tell and sets the challenge that while it is important to see if T levels, which were introduced in September 2020, do improve productivity and economic prosperity, it is more important to research whether they actually create parity within the qualification structure

When ‘compassion’ is not enough: An argument for adaptive critical pedagogy in higher education

    No full text
Compassionate pedagogy has gained international traction in recent educational discourse, advocating for empathy, understanding and flexibility in teaching practices and settings, particularly regarding neurodiverse students in higher education (HE) (Hamilton & Petty, 2023). Recent commentary draws attention to its association with mental vulnerability of students and ‘a political emphasis on diversity’ linked to the marketisation of HE (Williams, 2023). Despite several higher education institutions (HEIs) adopting compassionate pedagogy to support social justice, (see for example Canterbury Christ Church University, University of Manitoba, University of Hertfordshire), we should be mindful that lack of empirical evidence undermines its credibility

Intelligent System to Detect Malicious URLs Using Machine-Learning Algorithms

    No full text
Digital technology has made significant advancements in recent years, particularly on the Internet. Since most of our activities are now conducted online, this development is of particular significance. The continuous evolution of cyber threats has led to a heightened risk of cyberattacks, driven by the inventive tactics employed by malicious actors. Among these threats, one of the most perilous is the malicious URL, meticulously crafted to illicitly obtain information from unsuspecting novice end users. Such attacks compromise user systems and incur annual financial losses in the billions of dollars. Consequently, there is a growing imperative to fortify website defenses. The principal objective of this study is to develop a machine-learning model capable of discerning between malicious and legitimate URLs based on carefully selected parameters for each category. This research employs a variety of machine learning techniques, including decision tree (DT), logistic regression (LR), multi-layer perceptron (MLP), and naïve Bayes (NB), while exploring different hyperparameter configurations to classify URLs as safe or malicious. Upon analyzing the experimental results, it is evident that the ‘tanh’ activation function of MLP in conjunction with the ‘adam’ solver achieves the highest accuracy rate of 80.01%. This underscores the effectiveness of our approach in enhancing cybersecurity measures against malicious URLs

As Within, So Without: Implications for Research of Federico Faggin’s Irreducible

    Get PDF
Informed by Federico Faggin’s theorising in his recent book Irreducible, the purpose of this essay is to present a case for an expanded science of consciousness, which includes interiority as well as exteriority. An argument is made that this expanded science needs to incorporate approaches to research that have been developed within the humanities, but which to date have not been seen as scientifically acceptable

    Get PDF
Background: Ensuring uninterrupted access and utilisation of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services remains crucial for preventing adverse SRH outcomes. However, the unprecedented emergence of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) significantly disrupted most of these services in Africa. Thus, we systematically reviewed and examined barriers and facilitators to accessing and utilising SRH services during the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa. Methods: We systematically searched five databases for relevant articles published between January 2020 to December 2022, and the articles were screened following the JBI and PRISMA guidelines. Meta-synthesis of barriers and facilitators to accessing and utilising SRH services during the COVID-19 pandemic were reported, while a meta-analysis of the pooled prevalence of barriers to accessing and utilising SRH services during the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa was analysed using R. Results: The pooled prevalence of barriers to accessing and utilising SRH services during the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa was 26%. Seven themes were developed for the identified barriers (disruption of healthcare services, fear and misinformation, limited availability of resources, place & region of residence, healthcare staff attitude/manpower, limited access to transportation, and stigma and discrimination), whilst six themes were developed for the identified facilitators (support for vulnerable populations, socio-demographic characteristics, community outreach programs, policy adaptations, telemedicine and digital health, and change in choice of sexual and reproductive commodities). Conclusion: This study found that the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted SRH service access and utilisation in Africa. We recommend that future research consider a longitudinal examination of the pandemic on African SRH services. Trial registration: PROSPERO registration number: CRD42022373335
