Machinolatry and posthuman creativity between futurism, generative art and artificial intelligence
El arte generativo cumple la promesa futurista de facilitar la cocreación entre ser humano y máquina. La investigación aborda una potencial conexión entre el Futurismo y el presente (pos)digital para plantear una definición de la "creatividad poshumana" mediante el papel del manifiesto artístico como formato textual de referencia en el ámbito vanguardista, a comienzos del siglo XX y en la era de la Web 3.0. Desde la arqueología de los medios se revisarán los orígenes de la machine conditionen relación con los procesos de expresión creativa del arte mediático, prestando especial atención al arte procedural como culminación del arte no humano. Se procederá al análisis comparativo de un corpus formado por dos manifiestos representativos de los límites y posibilidades de la alianza creativa humano-mecánica en los últimos cien años: "L'arte meccanica. Manifesto futurista" (1923) y "The Decentralized Unicist Manifesto" (2021), resultante de la aplicación de la IA al campo del arte mediante el aprendizaje automático y las redes neuronales. Se evaluará el papel pionero de este tipo de textos programáticos al definir la relación entre creatividad y poshumanismo desde dos momentos históricos marcados por la urgencia colectiva en identificar los riesgos y beneficios en el uso artístico de los sistemas de inteligencia autónoma.Generative art fulfills the Futurist promise to facilitate the process of co-creation between humans and machines. The current research addresses a potential connection between Futurism and the (post)digital present with the purpose of proposing a definition of “posthuman creativity” through the role of the artistic manifesto as a textual format of reference in the avant-garde field, both at the beginning of the 20th century and in the era of Web 3.0. Using a methodology based on media archeology, the origins of the machine condition will be reviewed in relation to the processes of creative expression in the context of media art by paying special attention to procedural art as the culmination of non-human art. A comparative analysis will be carried out of a corpus formed by two representative manifestos of the limits and possibilities of the creative alliance of humans and machines in the last century: “L’arte meccanica. Manifesto futurista” (1923) and “The Decentralized Unicist Manifesto” (2021), resulting from the employment of AI to the field of art through machine learning and neural networks. From this study, the pioneering role of this type of programmatic texts will be evaluated
to define the relationship between creativity and posthumanism from two historical moments marked by the collective urgency in identifying the risks and benefits that exist in the artistic use of autonomous intelligence systems
The Atrato River as a Bearer and Co-creator of Rights: Unveiling Black People's Legal Mobilization Processes in Colombia
In 2016, Colombia's Constitutional Court recognized the Atrato River as the first water body in Latin America to have its own rights. This article interrogates the historical roots of the judicial decision declaring the river a rights holder. Drawing on my long-term engagement with social organizations as an activist, lawyer, and then researcher, I illuminate the influence of Black people from the Atrato River in the transformation of law in at least three areas: ethnic territorial rights, transitional justice, and river rights. To do so, I combine interdisciplinary theoretical critique with socio-legal research using community-based and autoethnographic approaches to trace the community methods and historical practices of political contestation deployed along the rivers. Thus, I conceptualize how an organic and distinctive style of claiming and creating rights has been constructed in the basin. Moreover, by listening to the voices of the riverine representatives, I argue that the river is a nonhuman existence that has participated in the processes of rights-making in conjunction with local communities and a broader mosaic of allied actors. Sobolev orthogonal polynomials and spectral methods in boundary value problems
In the variational formulation of a boundary value problem for the harmonic oscillator, Sobolev inner products appear in a natural way. First, we study the sequences of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials with respect to such an inner product. Second, their representations in terms of a sequence of Gegenbauer polynomials are deduced as well as an algorithm to generate them in a recursive way is stated. The outer relative asymptotics between the Sobolev orthogonal polynomials and classical Legendre polynomials is obtained. Next we analyze the solution of the boundary value problem in terms of a Fourier-Sobolev projector. Finally, we provide numerical tests concerning the reliability and accuracy of the Sobolev spectral method.The authors thank the suggestions by the referees which have contributed to improve the presentation of the manuscript. Non-Maxwellian electron effects on the macroscopic response of a Hall thruster discharge from an axial-radial kinetic model
A 2D axial-radial particle-in-cell (PIC) model of a Hall thruster discharge has been developed to analyze (mainly) the fluid equations satisfied by the azimuthally-averaged slow dynamics of electrons. Their weak collisionality together with a strong interaction with the thruster walls lead to a non-Maxwellian velocity distribution function (VDF). Consequently, the resulting macroscopic response differs from a conventional collisional fluid. First, the gyrotropic (diagonal) part of the pressure tensor is anisotropic. Second, its gyroviscous part, although small, is relevant in the azimuthal momentum balance, where the dominant contributions are orders of magnitude lower than in the axial momentum balance. Third, the heat flux vector does not satisfy simple laws, although convective and conductive behaviors can be identified for the parallel and perpendicular components, respectively. And fourth, the electron wall interaction parameters can differ largely from the classical sheath theory, based on near Maxwellian VDF. Furthermore, these effects behave differently in the near-anode and near-exit regions of the channel. Still, the profiles of basic plasma magnitudes agree well with those of 1D axial fluid models. To facilitate the interpretation of the plasma response, a quasiplanar geometry, a purely-radial magnetic field, and a simple empirical model of cross-field transport were used; but realistic configurations and a more elaborate anomalous diffusion formulation can be incorporated. Estimation of Interference Correlation in mmWave Cellular Systems
We consider a cellular network, where the uplink transmissions to a base station (BS) are interferenced by other devices, a condition that may occur, e.g., in cell-free networks or when using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) techniques. Assuming that the BS treats this interference as additional noise, we focus on the problem of estimating the interference correlation matrix from received signal samples. We consider a BS equipped with multiple antennas and operating in the millimeter-wave (mmWave) bands and propose techniques exploiting the fact that channels comprise only a few reflections at these frequencies. This yields a specific structure of the interference correlation matrix that can be decomposed into three matrices, two rectangular depending on the angle of arrival (AoA) of the interference and the third square with smaller dimensions. We resort to gridless approaches to estimate the AoAs and then project the least square estimate of the interference correlation matrix into a subspace with a smaller dimension, thus reducing the estimation error. Derecho internacional y migraciones económicas: ¿Un derecho a la migración segura, ordenada y regular?
La gobernanza de las migraciones forzadas es un reto que la Comunidad Internacional enfrenta desde hace décadas. Aunque no es nuevo, las migraciones aumentan cuantitativa y cualitativamente, impulsadas por el cambio climático y violaciones de derechos humanos que exigen protección internacional. Los Estados enfrentan dificultades en su gestión, especialmente con flujos masivos que desbordan recursos y generan tensiones. La cooperación internacional debe traducirse en políticas efectivas que protejan derechos humanos. Sin embargo, la racionalidad económica no siempre guía la gestión migratoria. Este trabajo propone que el Derecho Internacional regule la migración para proteger los derechos de los migrantes. Se estructura en tres capítulos sobre avances normativos y el papel de la Unión Europea, y examina los derechos de migración segura, ordenada y regular, así como un enfoque que incluya el Derecho Internacional Penal para abordar violaciones de derechos como crímenes contra la humanidad.Esta publicación es parte del proyecto de I+D+i PID2019-107172RB-I00 (Teorías de la Justicia y Derecho global de los derechos humanos.
