Introduction and objectives: We aimed to describe the clinical outcomes of the use of the CentriMag acute circulatory support system as a bridge to emergency heart transplantation (HTx). Methods: We conducted a descriptive analysis of the clinical outcomes of consecutive HTx candidates included in a multicenter retrospective registry who were treated with the CentriMag device, configured either for left ventricular support (LVS) or biventricular support (BVS). All patients were listed for high-priority HTx. The study assessed the period 2010 to 2020 and involved 16 transplant centers around Spain. We excluded patients treated with isolated right ventricular support or venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation without LVS. The primary endpoint was 1-year post-HTx survival. Results: The study population comprised 213 emergency HTx candidates bridged on CentriMag LVS and 145 on CentriMag BVS. Overall, 303 (84.6%) patients received a transplant and 53 (14.8%) died without having an organ donor during the index hospitalization. Median time on the device was 15 days, with 66 (18.6%) patients being supported for > 30 days. One-year posttransplant survival was 77.6%. Univariable and multivariable analyses showed no statistically significant differences in pre-or post-HTx survival in patients managed with BVS vs LVS. Patients managed with BVS had higher rates of bleeding, need for transfusion, hemolysis and renal failure than patients managed with LVS, while the latter group showed a higher incidence of ischemic stroke. Conclusions: In a setting of candidate prioritization with short waiting list times, bridging to HTx with the CentriMag system was feasible and resulted in acceptable on-support and posttransplant outcomes.Fundacion Mutua Madrilena (Madrid, Spain)5.9 JCR Q1 20220.593 SJR Q2 2023No data IDR 2022UE

Interobserver Reliability and Sensitivity to Change of a Composite Ocular Inflammatory Activity Index: UVEDAI©

    No full text
Introduction This was a multicenter, prospective, longitudinal, observational study involving eight Spanish tertiary hospitals to determine the interobserver reliability of an uveitis disease activity index, (UVEDAI) and assess its sensitivity to change in patients with receiving pharmacologic treatment. Methods Patients aged ≥ 18 years diagnosed with active noninfectious uveitis were included. A complete baseline assessment was performed by two ophthalmologists who determined ocular inflammatory activity using the UVEDAI index independently of each other. The principal ophthalmologist made a new visit at 4 weeks to determine the change in inflammatory activity. The interobserver reliability analysis was performed by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), with the values of the variables and the UVEDAI obtained by both ophthalmologists in the more active eye at the baseline visit. Sensitivity to change in the UVEDAI index was assessed at 4 weeks from the start of pharmacologic treatment by determining the clinically relevant change, defined as a change in UVEDAI of ≥ 0.8 points over baseline. The mean change between both measures was compared using the repeated-measures t-test. Results A total of 111 patients were included. In the interobserver reliability analysis, the ICC for the UVEDAI value was 0.9, and, when compared with the mean UVEDAI values obtained by the ophthalmologists, no statistically significant differences were found (p value > 0.05). As for the sensitivity to change in UVEDAI, statistically significant differences (p value = 0.00) were found for the mean values of the index compared with baseline. In all cases, the index value decreased by > 1 point at the 4-week visit. Conclusions The interobserver reliability of the UVEDAI was high in the total sample. Furthermore, the index was sensitive in determining the change in inflammatory activity after treatment. We believe that UVEDAI is a disease activity index that enables objective comparison of results in clinical practice and trials.Spanish Society of Rheumatology3.3 Q2 JCR 20221.158 Q1 SJR 2023No data IDR 2023UE

Divergent Gut Microbiota: Archaeal and Bacterial Signatures Unveil Unique Patterns in Colombian Cyclists Compared to Weightlifters and Non-Athletes

    No full text
Engagement in physical activity, across various sports, promotes a diverse microbiota in active individuals. This study examines the gut microbiota of Colombian athletes, specifically weightlifters (n = 16) and road cyclists (n = 13), compared to non-athletes (n = 15). Using Kruskal–Wallis tests, the physical activity level of a group of non-athletic individuals and the sports experience of a group of professional athletes is analyzed. The median age of participants is 24 years, comprising 25 men and 19 women. The microbiota is collected using fecal samples. Participants provided these samples during their pre-competitive stage, specifically during the concentration phase occurring two weeks prior to national competitions. This timing is chosen to capture the microbial composition during a period of heightened physical preparation. Questionnaire responses and microbial composition assessments identify disparities among groups. Microbial composition analysis explores core microbiome, abundance, and taxonomy using Pavian, MicrobiomeAnalyst 2.0, and GraPhlAn. ANCOM-BC2 reveals differentially abundant species. Road cyclists exhibit decreased Bacteria and increased Archaea abundance. Phylum-level variations included Planctomycetes, Acidobacteria, and Proteobacteria, while Bacteroidetes prevailed. Key families influencing gut microbiota are Bacteroidaceae, Muribaculaceae, and Selenomonadaceae. Weightlifters exhibit unique viral and archaeal community connections, while cyclists showed specialized microbial interplay influenced by endurance exercise. Correlation network analysis emphasizes distinctive microbial interactions within athlete groups, shedding light on the impact of physical activities on gut microbiota and athlete health.Research and Innovation Directorate of Universidad del RosarioJoint Call from Universidad del RosarioUniversidad Europea de Madrid under the Small Grant typology3.7 Q3 JCR 20220.993 Q1 SJR 2023No data IDR 2022UE

    No full text
The aim of this study was to analyse and compare, both individually and multivariately, the technical-tactical similarities and differences associated with the offensive phase between the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. Following an observational follow-up design, 4,669 ball possessions were analysed in both tournaments (FWWC19: n = 2,323; FWWC23: n = 2,346). Differences between the two editions were examined using the chi-square statistic (p < .05) and Student’s t-test for categorical and continuous criteria, respectively. Lastly, a decision tree model was implemented with FWWC as the objective criterion. Statistically significant differences were found between the two tournaments for the criteria Match Status, Match Outcome, Defensive Intention, Interaction Context, MD, MO, Possession Time, and Passes. At the multivariate level, the predictor criteria introduced by the decision tree model were Match Status, Time, MO, Start Zone (width), Passes, Defensive Intention, and Possession zone. Between the two tournaments, increases in average possession time and the number of passes were observed, conditioned by greater technical and tactical efficiency of the teams.Sin financiación5.6 Q1 JCR 20221.546 Q1 SJR 2023No data IDR 202

Tensiones actuales: sociedad, control y delincuencia

    No full text

Differences in movement patterns related to anterior cruciate ligament injury risk in elite judokas according to sex: A cross-sectional clinical approach study

    No full text
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury stands as a significant concern in judo, necessitating preventive measures. The primary injury mechanism involves knee collapse in valgus, often linked to deficiencies in core strength, neuromuscular control, external rotators, hip abductors, and limitations in ankle and hip mobility. Sexwise, the injury is more prevalent in women across various sports. Therefore, in the present study we observed this possible intersexual disparity in the difference of movement patterns among elite judokas according to their sex, in order to identify those athletes with a higher risk of ACL injury. Notably, there were no discernible differences between sexes in the single leg squat test. Both men and women exhibited compromised neuromuscular control in the non-dominant leg. While ankle dorsiflexion and hip external rotation showed no gender disparities, differences in internal rotation were noted. This particular movement restriction may elevate the risk of ACL injury.Sin financiación2.1 Q2 JCR 20220.271 Q3 SJR 2023No data IDR 2022UE

Education, the migration issue, and the hate speech in the Spanish Far-Right

    No full text
La educación debe ser una herramienta para la igualdad y la cohesión social, en lugar de promover la intolerancia y la discriminación.ABSTRACT Education, migration, and hate speech have gained relevance in the social and political debate in Spain, following the path of other European countries, particularly due to the progressive prominence of parties like VOX, promoting an ultra-nationalist and conservative agenda. Currently, education has become an ideological field of intense tension and confrontation, where the far right expresses concern about the alleged "ideologization" of educational programs. They accuse these programs of promoting values contrary to society's beliefs, leading to the spread of various disinformation hoaxes in this area. Migration is a central pillar of their discourse, stigmatizing migrants as dangerous threats to Spanish culture and identity. Populist, reactionary, and xenophobic speeches fuel progressive polarization, hostility, and discrimination towards migrant communities, exacerbating social divisions and eroding values of coexistence and mutual respect. It is essential to recognize and confront these discourses to protect democratic values and promote an inclusive and respectful society. Education should be a tool for equality and social cohesion, rather than promoting intolerance and discrimination.Sin FinanciaciónNo data JCR 2022No data SJR 20230,10 C3 IDR 2022UE

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects on speed and agility of including ball driving during resisted sprint training in relation to regular soccer training. Thirty male soccer players (age: 18.10 ± 0.66 years; height: 179 ± 0.06 cm; body mass: 76.22 ± 4.76 kg; systematic practice: 8.6 ± 1.73 years) participated in the study and were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EG; n = 18) or a control group (CG; n = 12). The research was conducted during a training camp. The intervention period lasted 6 weeks and during that period all players performed their usual soccer training. However, the EG performed two weekly sessions of a supplementary training of resisted sprints with a ball. Within-group analysis showed significant improvements in 5-m (p = 0.005) and 10-m (p = 0.016) sprint performance; and New multi-change of direction agility test (NMAT; p = 0.002), Illinois (IAT; p = 0.002), T-test (p = 0.003), Arrowhead COD (Arrowhead-R, p = < 0.001; Arrowhead-L, p = < 0.001) test and Zigzag agility test (Zigzag-B; p = 0.006) from pretest to posttest in EG. However, the CG didn’t show any significant improvements. Between-groups analysis revealed differences in favor of the EG in Zigzag-B, IAT, Arrowhead-R, Arrowhead-L and NMAT. This study’s results support the efficacy of a short-term training program that includes resisted sprints exercises to improve the performance of soccer players.Sin financiación2.9 Q1 JCR 20230.839 Q1 SJR 2023No data IDR 2023UE
