Time assessment for final restoration of endodontically treated teeth in a university clinic setting: An observational study

    No full text
Background: The aim was to quantify the time elapsed between tooth reconstruction and the end of endodontic treatment, and to assess differences according to sex, age, and tooth group. Material and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted with patient clinical records. Data relating to patient characteristics, treated teeth, endodontic treatment, and subsequent restorative treatment were recorded. Results: For this study, 355 endodontically treated teeth by undergraduate students during 2019 were included. 24 teeth (6.76 %) were not restored, more direct (86.4 %) than indirect (13.6 %) restorations were performed, and the most frequent type of restoration was complex filling. The mean elapsed time from endodontic completion to direct restoration was 7 days, with a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 90 days. For indirect restorations the mean elapsed time was 21 days. Conclusions: The median elapsed time for endodontic tooth reconstruction was 7 days (IQR = 7), however, treatment should not be considered completed until the tooth has been properly restored. In cases where an indirect restoration was also necessary, the median elapsed time was higher (21 days; IQR = 31.5).Sin Financiación1.7 Q3 JCR 20230.52 Q2 SJR 2023No data IDR 2023UE

    No full text
This study investigated the influence of social media on patients regarding aesthetic dental treatments according to sex, type of treatment, and time since their last treatment. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a web-based survey. Participants were students over 18 years of age who were social media users and had undergone aesthetic dental treatment. 504 responses were included. Data evaluation was made using Pearson chi-square test. The level of significance was set at p < .05. 29.37% of the respondents indicated that social media influenced their decision to have their aesthetic treatment. Regarding the influence of social media, no differences were observed between males and females, nor by type of aesthetic treatment. Participants who had undergone an aesthetic dental treatment within the last year were more influenced by social media than those who had undergone it more than two years ago. Posts from dental clinics or dentists were the type of content that most influenced participants. Social media can influence some patients' decision to undergo aesthetic dental treatment, thus dental practices and dentists should consider the increasing importance of social media in their daily practice.

    No full text

    No full text

Assessing the Antimicrobial Efficacy of Graphene Oxide and Its PEGylated Derivative Against Staphylococcus Aureus

    No full text
The rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a critical health challenge. This, plus the antimicrobial discovery void, had led scientists to search for an effective alternative to antimicro-bials. In this context, nanomaterials, such as graphene oxide (GO), a two-dimensional (2D) carbon molecule with oxidized functional groups, have been shown to interact physically and chemically with bacteria. Moreover, the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG) to its surface enhances GO’s biocompatibility and water solubility, making it a promising candidate for biomedical applications. This study evaluates the antimicrobial efficacy of GO and its polyethylene glycol-modified form (GO-PEG) against Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium responsible for numerous hospital-acquired and multidrug-resistant infections. After their production, both nanomaterials were characterized using various techniques to provide insight into their morphology, stability, and functional group composition. Then, the antimicrobial activity of GO and GO-PEG was assessed using the Müeller–Hinton broth microdilution method, determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for S. aureus among ten different concentrations of both nanomaterials (from 0.0625 to 32 mg/mL). The results demonstrate the potential of GO as an effective antimicrobial agent at 16 and 32 mg/mL, offering new strategies in the fight against AMR. Further research could establish its role in future therapeutic applications.Santander UniversidadesFundación Universidad Europea (XSAN002302)No data JCR 20230.43 Q1 SJR 2023No data IDR 2023UE

    No full text

Association between suicidal ideation and burnout: A meta-analysis

    No full text
Approximately 700,000 people die by suicide annually worldwide. Researchers have explored a spectrum of experiences that involve stress in academic or work environments and potentially intensify suicidal thoughts or behaviors. However, no meta-analysis has examined the relationship between suicidal ideation (SI) and burnout. This study consisted of a meta-analysis to examine the association between SI and burnout syndrome, utilizing the WoS Core Collection, Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, DIALNET, and Google Scholar databases. Twenty-one samples met the study’s eligibility criteria for inclusion in the analysis. The results revealed a significant relationship between SI and burnout, with the type of burnout (occupational, academic, and parental) emerging as the most significant moderating variable. Occupational burnout exhibited the lowest correlation, followed by academic and parental burnout. These findings suggest the importance of developing tools to assess SI within the context of the work environment, parenting and academics, and psychoeducational programs for managing stress.Sin financiación3.800 Q1 JCR 20220.973 Q1 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE

Pain memory in children: a systematic review and meta-analysis with a meta-regression

    No full text
The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the accuracy of memory of pain and the variables that may influence it in children with acute, experimental, and chronic pain. We conducted a search in electronic databases from inception to February 11, 2022. Twelve observational studies and 3 randomized controlled studies were included in the study. The main outcome measure was the accuracy of the memory of the pain intensity (experienced/recalled). To compare the outcomes reported by the studies, we calculated the standardized mean difference (SMD) over time for the continuous variables. The overall meta-analysis showed a small effect size in favor of an overestimation of experienced pain intensity (SMD = 0.28). Subanalyzing per pain context, there was a small effect size in favor of overestimation in the clinical context (SMD = 0.33), but there was no evidence of any change in the accuracy of memory of pain in the experimental context (SMD = 0.07). The mean age of the participants and the proportion of girls significantly predicted the accuracy of the memory of pain. The period since the experienced pain measurement, the intensity of expected and recalled fear, trait anxiety, and anxiety sensitivity did not significantly predict the accuracy of the memory of pain. Children showed an overestimation in pain memory between the experienced and recalled intensity of acute pain, especially in a clinical context. Furthermore, only gender and age were predictors of the accuracy of pain memory. These results highlight the relevance of pain memory to medical practice and future research.Sin financiación7.4 Q1 JCR 20222.445 Q1 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE
