Rural film festivals: social functions, obstacles and challenges
This investigation is centred on film festivals within Spain that take the rural world as their reference. A panoramic approach to an emerging trend is presented in the study. The concept of the “social function” is of central importance to the analytical perspective that is adopted, to understand what added value these sorts of festivals specializing in rural topics can contribute, especially in relation to the current challenges of rural depopulation. Qualitative methods are mainly used, based on semi-structured interviews with the people who direct and manage these sorts of events, with the support of digital documents downloaded from web-pages and searches for the digital footprint of rural film festivals on websites and social media. Promoting and financing a rural film festival is, at the very least, both a social and an organizational challenge, but our study distances itself from an economic viewpoint that might measure the success of a festival in terms of marketing, to contemplate its “social profitability.” From this perspective, we ask ourselves through which channels and to what extent are rural film festivals linked into the community. The results showed that, despite the vulnerability of the sector, these festivals represent an opportunity for links with the local area, social cohesiveness, and the revitalization of socio-cultural activities.Esta investigación se centra en los festivales de cine que en España toman como referente el mundo rural. El estudio presenta una aproximación de conjunto a un fenómeno emergente. La perspectiva de análisis adoptada otorga centralidad al concepto de “función social”, para entender qué valores añadidos aportan este tipo de festivales especializados en temáticas rurales, especialmente en relación con los retos que hoy en día presenta la despoblación. Se recurre principalmente a la metodología cualitativa, basada en entrevistas semiestructuradas con las personas que los dirigen o gestionan, con el apoyo documental procedente de las propias páginas webs y el rastreo de la huella digital en las webs y las redes sociales. Promover y financiar un festival de cine rural supone, cuanto menos, un reto de carácter social y organizativo, pero este estudio se aleja de la visión economicista, que mediría el éxito de un festival en términos de mercadeo, para contemplar su “rentabilidad social”. Desde esta perspectiva nos preguntamos a través de qué canales se vinculan con la ciudadanía y hasta qué punto. Los resultados muestran que, a pesar de la vulnerabilidad del sector, representan una oportunidad para la vinculación con el territorio, la cohesión social y la revitalización del espacio sociocultural
Bilateral subgaleal hematoma after a robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: an uncommon complication
Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy is a relatively re-cent technique. Its advantages include less invasiveness and better pain management, but has specific anesthesia requirements, such as steep Trendelenburg position and pneumoperitoneum. Mild complications are common, e.g., transient hypotension or soft tissue edema.We present a case of a 62-year old male who developed subgaleal hematoma associated with transient neurologic impairment after surgery. Jugular vein insufficiency was suspected as the most likely cause. The patient recovered fully.Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy can be a challeng-ing procedure due to the anesthesia requirements, but most complications are mild and transient. However, patients should be carefully assessed before surgery. We identified potential factors that may have led to this complication: the abnormal prolonged surgical time, the steep Trende-lenburg, a non-assessed jugular vein insufficiency, and/or patient's obesity
Nombrando América. Una aproximación a la antroponimia y toponimia europea en el Nuevo Mundo
Este artículo se centra en el análisis de las dificultades que plantean las fuentes y la metodología de trabajo a la hora de investigar sobre la antroponimia y toponimia americanas, y resume las estrategias seguidas por los distintos autores del dossier dedicado a los nombres europeos en América, desde las costas de Terranova hasta el sur de Brasil para alcanzar sus objetivos. Dada la fragilidad del patrimonio onomástico en lenguas minoritarias, que con frecuencia no figura en mapas oficiales, el artículo propone como campo de investigación el estudio de los nombres asignados a las nuevas poblaciones que son los condominios o urbanizaciones, como ya se ha realizado en algunos lugares de Europa. Estos nuevos nombres remiten con frecuencia a los antiguos propietarios del terreno o idealizan aspectos del pasado que de otro modo no se reflejarían en la toponimia.
This article focuses on the analysis of the difficulties posed by sources and research methodology when investigating American anthroponymy and toponymy. It summarizes the strategies followed by various authors in the dossier dedicated to European Names in America, from the coasts of Newfoundland to the south of Brazil, to achieve their objectives. Given the fragility of onomastic heritage in minority languages, which often do not appear on official maps, the article proposes as a field of research the study of names assigned to new populations that are condominiums, as has already been done in some places in Europe. Dynamic spillovers across precious metals and oil realized volatilities: Evidence from quantile extended joint connectedness measures
This paper proposes a novel quantile vector autoregressive extended joint connectedness framework to examine realized volatilities spillovers between oil and precious metals commodities
using daily data from May 1st, 2006 until June 18th, 2021. Our findings suggest that crude
oil is the main net transmitter of shocks in the network across all quartiles. The dynamic total
connectedness is heterogeneous over time and driven by economic events. Interestingly, we see
that the higher the quartile the more pronounced the net transmission mechanisms of realized
volatilities. Notably, the net total directional and pairwise connectedness measures illustrate in
most cases similar dynamics

Struvite precipitation in wastewater treatment plants anaerobic digestion supernatants using a magnesium oxide by-product
Struvite precipitation is a well-known technology to recover and upcycle phosphorus from municipal wastewater as a slow-release fertiliser. However, the economic and environmental costs of struvite precipitation are constrained by using technical-grade reagents as a magnesium source. This research evaluates the feasibility of using a low-grade magnesium oxide (LG-MgO) by-product from the calcination of magnesite as a magnesium source to precipitate struvite from anaerobic digestion supernatants in wastewater treatment plants. Three distinct LG-MgOs were used in this research to capture the inherent variability of this by-product. The MgO content of the LG-MgOs varied from 42 % to 56 %, which governed the reactivity of the by-product. Experimental results showed that dosing LG-MgO at P:Mg molar ratio close to stoichiometry (i.e. 1:1 and 1:2) favoured struvite precipitation, whereas higher molar ratios (i.e. 1:4, 1:6 and 1:8) favoured calcium phosphate precipitation due to the higher calcium concentration and pH. At a P: Mg molar ratio of 1:1 and 1:2, the percentage of phosphate precipitated was 53-72 % and 89-97 %, respectively, depending on the LG-MgO reactivity. A final experiment was performed to examine the composition and morphology of the precipitate obtained under the most favourable conditions, which showed that (i) struvite was the mineral phase with the highest peaks intensity and (ii) struvite was present in two different shapes: hopper and polyhedral. Biomarkers of delirium risk in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Delirium is a neuropsychiatric syndrome associated with increased morbidity and mortality in older patients. The aim of this study was to review predictive biomarkers of delirium in older patients to gain insights into the pathophysiology of this syndrome and provide guidance for future studies. Two authors independently and systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Scopus databases up to August 2021. A total of 32 studies were included. Only 6 studies were eligible for the meta-analysis, pooled results showed a significant increase in some serum biomarkers (C-reactive protein [CRP], tumour necrosis factor alpha [TNF-alpha] and interleukin-6 [IL-6]) among patients with delirium (odds ratio = 1.88, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.637; I2 = 76.75%). Although current evidence does not favour the use of any particular biomarker, serum CRP, TNF-alpha, and IL-6 were the most consistent biomarkers of delirium in older patients
BRCT domains: structure, functions, and implications in disease-new therapeutic targets for innovative drug discovery against infections
The search for new therapeutic targets and their implications in drug development remains an emerging scientific topic. BRCT-bearing proteins are found in Archaea, Bacteria, Eukarya, and viruses. They are traditionally involved in DNA repair, recombination, and cell cycle control. To carry out these functions, BRCT domains are able to interact with DNA and proteins. Moreover, such domains are also implicated in several pathogenic processes and malignancies including breast, ovarian, and lung cancer. Although these domains exhibit moderately conserved folding, their sequences show very low conservation. Interestingly, sequence variations among species are considered positive traits in the search for suitable therapeutic targets, since non-specific drug interactions might be reduced. These main characteristics of BRCT, as well as its critical implications in key biological processes in the cell, have prompted the study of these domains as therapeutic targets. This review explores the possible roles of BRCT domains as therapeutic targets for drug discovery. We describe their common structural features and relevant interactions and pathways, as well as their implications in pathologic processes. Drugs commonly used to target these domains are also presented. Finally, based on their structures, we describe new drug design possibilities using modern and innovative techniques
Power management unit for long-range harvester-assisted wireless sensor node.
Energy harvesting has become increasingly important nowadays. This solution
allows the development of autonomous devices, avoiding the use of batteries, that
do not have a large duration and can be harmful to the environment.
Some energy harvesters provide very low voltages, that are therefore unable
to supply what is required by some electronic devices. This can be solved with
the use of step-up voltage converters.
Moreover, some of these are not able to provide enough power for continuously
supply to sensor nodes. With the help of a voltage monitor we can ensure that
the power is only transferred to the sensor node whenever the capacitor storing
the energy provided by the harvester is charged enough.
In this work, a Power Management Unit (PMU) for a long-range harvesterassisted wireless sensor node is proposed. The PMU is able to adapt the output
voltage of the harvester to the required voltage for the sensor node, and store its
energy in a capacitor. It also ensures that power transmission only occurs when
the capacitor is charged enough
