There are several educational initiatives to promote reading. Likewise, Spanish society
is active in reading in their daily life. However, studies indicate that there is a loss of interest
in reading in adolescents between 15 and 18 years old. In addition, this population showed low
reading competence in the latest PISA 2018 report. Therefore, there is a need to increase both
motivation and competence in the reading activity. In spite of this situation, studies also show
two effective ways to promote reading in adolescents: the use of digital devices and the
influence of bookinfluencers, that is, influencers who talk about books. Due to these
observations, this project analyzes the dynamics of social networks and the activities of
bookinfluencers in order to learn from their practices to promote reading in young people. After
this analysis the project integrates this practices in a didactic proposal for the classroom
The image of nursing in the media: A scoping review
Aim: To systematically review the available evidence from research exploring the image of nurses in the media.
Background: Nurses have historically faced many challenges and have received media attention for such efforts. However, the image of nursing traditionally conveyed by media has failed to represent the real character and a positive image of the nursing profession.
Review methods: For this scoping literature review, a search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, Web of Science and Dialnet to identify studies written in English, Spanish or Portuguese from the earliest date in the databases until February 2022. Four authors were involved in a two-stage screening process. Data were subjected to quantitative content analysis. A decade-by-decade analysis was performed to track the evolution of the research.
Results: Sixty studies were included. The analysis shows (1) an increasing interest in analysing the portrayal of nurses and nursing in media over time, especially from 2000 onwards; (2) a prevailing trend of focusing on one form of media when analysing the portrayal of nurses; (3) qualitative designs as the most frequent method for exploring the image of nursing; and (4) a predominantly negative image conveyed by media.
Conclusions: There is a notable body of scientific evidence about the image of nurses and nursing portrayed in media. The interest in analysing media depictions of nursing has a long history. The included studies' samples showed heterogeneity, as they were obtained from different media, periods and countries.
Implications for nursing: This scoping review is the first systematic review to provide a comprehensive map of what has been studied thus far regarding media depictions of nursing. It confirms the imperative need for nurses in different settings (academic, assistance or management fields) to maintain a proactive attitude towards addressing images of nursing and ensuring accurate representations
Time–temperature excursion monitoring using chipless RFID tags and organic oils.
A food-safe cost-effective time-temperature indicator (TTI) sensor for cold chain disruption detection at the item level is proposed. The sensor is based on the radar cross section (RCS) readout from a chipless square split ring resonator (SSRR) exposed to organic oils with customizable melting temperatures and defined flow paths. The inclusion of several oil mixtures into the same sensor allows for the determination of a range of configurable temperatures/times. The same sensor has two modes of operation: one for threshold detection and another for gradual change detection. These modes depend on the orientation of the sensor on the packaging and the influence of gravity. The provided design, along with a convenient signal conditioning strategy, accurately detects four time exposure thresholds in the 7-30 min range when placed in upright position at ambient temperature, while it exhibits linear response between 10 and 30 min just by turning it by 90 degrees. Prospective future directions are also discussed
Direct mail to prospects and email to current customers? Modeling and field-testing multichannel marketing
Multichannel retailers need to understand how to allocate marketing budgets to customer segments and online and offline sales channels. We propose an integrated methodological approach to assess how email and direct mail effectiveness vary by channel and customer value segment. We apply this approach to an international beauty retailer in six countries and to an apparel retailer in the United States. We estimate multi-equation hierarchical linear models and find that sales responsiveness to email and direct mail varies by customer value segment. Specifically, direct mail drives customer acquisition in the offline channel, while email drives sales for both online and offline channels for current customer segments. A randomized field experiment with the beauty retailer provides causal support for the findings. The proposed reallocation of marketing resources would yield a revenue lift of 13.5% for the beauty retailer and 9.3% for the apparel retailer, compared with the 6.5% actual increase in the field experiment
The movement of age-friendly cities, which emerged from the paradigm of active and healthy aging
promoted by the World Health Organization, identifies the aspects that facilitate the quality of life of
the elderly. The characteristics of the space in which they reside relate closely to their physical and
psychological well-being. In the urban environment, parks and gardens occupy a prominent place
because they favor physical and social activity. This work investigates the essential characteristic of
access distance to urban green spaces (UGS) from the most demographically aged areas of Spanish
cities. In contrast to the existing case studies, it takes a global approach by analyzing the 86 urban
areas in the Statistical Atlas of Urban Areas. The census sections with a high proportion of people aged
65 or over according to the Continuous Register Statistics (“Padrón”) are related to the proximity to the
UGS obtained from the Land Occupation Information System of Spain. The method used is that of
Euclidean distances from the edge of the census tract, applying it to 100, 200 and 300 meters. The
results show that the environments with the highest presence of aged population in Spanish urban
areas have greater accessibility to the UGS than the set of census tracts, at any of the distances
analyzed. Despite this, more than 30 % of the sections demographically aged are more than 300 m
from the UGS, having detected areas under-equipped with green spaces
Behavioral and Personal Characteristics Associated With Risk of SARS-CoV-2 Infection in a Spanish University Cohort
The aim of this study was to analyze the life habits and personal factors associated with increased severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) risk in a university environment with in-person lectures during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. To our knowledge, there are no previous longitudinal studies that have analyzed associations of behavioral and personal factors with the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection on an entire university population. A cohort study was conducted in the 3 campuses of the University of Navarra between August 24, 2020, and May 30, 2021, including 14,496 students and employees; the final sample included 10,959. Descriptive and multivariate-adjusted models were fitted using Cox regression. A total of 1,032 (9.4%) participants were diagnosed with COVID-19 (879 students and 153 employees), almost 50% living with their families. COVID-19 was associated with living in college or residence (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.96, 95% CI: 1.45, 2.64), motor transportation (HR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.14, 1.61), South American origin (HR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.20, 1.72), and belonging to Madrid’s campus (HR = 3.11, 95% CI: 2.47, 3.92). International students, especially from Latin America, mostly lived in university apartments or shared flats and cohabited with 4–11 people. Living in a big city (Madrid), was a significant risk factor
The designer Clara Porset and the photographer Lola Álvarez Bravo
are two fundamental figures in the construction of Mexican modernity based
on its cultural heritage and vernacular roots. Although there is a great deal
of research on the work of each of them, little is known about their work
together. By analysing the documentation held in the archives of Clara Porset
and Lola Álvarez Bravo, we propose to examine the work of both - specifically,
the exhibition "Art in everyday life" and a selection of architectural projects -
with the aim, on the one hand, of showing and highlighting the search for a
common project, the result of the communion of their political and aesthetic
interests, and, on the other, of bringing to light this key alliance for the dissemination of Mexican tradition and modernity, through design and their

Pharmacological inhibition of the integrated stress response accelerates disease progression in an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis mouse model
Background and purpose: The integrated stress response (ISR) regulates translation in response to diverse stresses. ISR activation has been documented in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients and ALS experimental models. In experimental models, both ISR stimulation and inhibition prevented ALS neurodegeneration; however, which mode of ISR regulation would work in patients is still debated. We previously demonstrated that the ISR modulator ISRIB (Integrated Stress Response InhiBitor, an eIF2B activator) enhances survival of neurons expressing the ALS neurotoxic allele SOD1 G93A. Here, we tested the effect of two ISRIB-like eIF2B activators (2BAct and PRXS571) in the disease progression of transgenic SOD1G93A mice.
Experimental approach: After biochemical characterization in primary neurons, SOD1G93A mice were treated with 2BAct and PRXS571. Muscle denervation of vulnerable motor units was monitored with a longitudinal electromyographic test. We used a clinical score to document disease onset and progression; force loss was determined with the hanging wire motor test. Motor neuronal survival was assessed by immunohistochemistry.
Key results: In primary neurons, 2BAct and PRXS571 relieve the ISR-imposed translational inhibition while maintaining high ATF4 levels. Electromyographic recordings evidenced an earlier and more dramatic muscle denervation in treated SOD1G93A mice that correlated with a decrease in motor neuron survival. Both compounds anticipated disease onset and shortened survival time.
Conclusion and implications: 2BAct and PRXS571 anticipate disease onset, aggravating muscle denervation and motor neuronal death of SOD1G93A mice. This study reveals that the ISR works as a neuroprotective pathway in ALS motor neurons and reveals the toxicity that eIF2B activators may display in ALS patients
Gender and domesticity. Historical keys to understand the therapeutic relationship in the origin of American Professional Nursing (1800-1860)
In the first half of the 19th century, the health care administered in the domestic sphere in the United States of America was transmitted from mothers to daughters as part of women's daily learning. In the context of the therapeutic relationships established at the bedside of those who were ill, the exercise of care was understood as a moral manifestation of women towards their loved ones, and an example of feminine benevolence. We observe that there was a gradual change that was influenced by social movements in favour of women and the access to education. The research shows a path that allows us to understand the domestic context as a catalyst for the visibility, recognition and social legitimacy of the care provided by women, and its role in the professionalization of nursing, and in the relationships established between doctors, nurses and those who fell ill. The article proposes a progressive transition from care practices in the domestic sphere to the professionalization of women as nurses
