Self-injury and suicidal behavior in children and youth population: learning from the pandemic
Introduction: Suicidal behavior and self-harm are increasing in children and adolescents. Non-suicidal self-harm are a dysfunctional method of emotional regulation, and it must be distinguished from suicidal behaviors. Methods: Narrative review of the current situation on suicide and self-harm in Spain. Descrip-tive study of suicidal behaviors in pediatric emergencies. Results: Mental health consultations were analyzed (March-2019 to March-2020 and March -2020 to March-2021) in a multicentric study of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Emergencies (SEUP), finding a 122% increase of the diagnosis of > and 56% of >. In another prospective analysis, 281 attempts were recorded, with the patient profile being: female (90.1%), 14.8 years old, 34.9% without previous psychiatric diagnosis; 57.7% with previous suicidal behavior. The presence of psychia-tric disorders, especially depression, and previous attempts, are the best-known risk factors for suicidal behavior, although other factors are involved (family, personal or social). Pediatri-cians should be trained to deal with questions about suicide and acquire the skills to conduct an interview with a supportive and empathetic attitude. In Spain, suicide prevention plans are heterogeneous among communities, and there is not a unified national suicide prevention plan. Conclusions: Primary, hospital and mental health care resources for pediatric population should be strengthened to prevent suicidal behaviors. Specific training for school staff, and child and adolescent psychiatry training for pediatricians and nurses are crucial in the prevention of suicide in children and adolescent population
High-definition 3D exoscope-assisted barbed pharyngoplasty for OSAS and snoring: better than live
Recently, a high-definition 3D exoscope (VITOM), a new magnification system that provides a 3D image of the surgical field, has been introduced. This study aims to describe the first use of VITOM 3D technology in Barbed Pharyngoplasty (BP) for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). VITOM 3D technology is used to support visualization during BP in a male patient affected by severe OSA with a circular palatal collapse pattern at drug-induced sleep endoscopy. During the surgical procedure, this approach markedly improves the visualization of the surgical field through anatomic details of the oral cavity, facilitating surgical dissection and enhancing the teaching environment. It allows for a better involvement and more interactions during the surgery, as scrubbed and assistant nurses can see the surgical field and anticipate the surgeon's choice of instrument. VITOM 3D technology, by combining a telescope with a standard endoscope, has been successfully used in various surgical disciplines and could be very useful, especially in teaching hospitals. VITOM 3D can guarantee a real immersive surgical experience for all participants in the operating room. Economic and efficacy studies would be conducted to support the use of a VITOM-3D exoscope in common clinical practice

Populism in the Communication Strategy of Lula and Bolsonaro: An Analysis of the Television Debates in Brazil’s 2022 General Election
The 2022 presidential election in Brazil involved two radically different candidates but with broad similarities in their populist discourse and communication strategies. The electoral campaign and the results polarized the country between the supporters of the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro, and the incoming one, Lula da Silva. This article analyzes the two television debates that took place in the second round of the presidential election in October. The interventions of the candidates have been studied using the methodology of critical discourse analysis applied by Hawkins (2010). The goal is to discover the degree of populism present in the candidates’ discourse in the two debates studied. The results show evidence of the highly populist nature of the discourse of the two leaders in both television events. This characteristic, as well as other important aspects of the campaigns and the narrow margin of Lula’s eventual victory, may explain the level of polarization evident in the country. It may also be the reason behind the rejection of the election results by the followers of Bolsonaro and their protest against the change in president
Management of patients with multiple myeloma and COVID-19 in the post pandemic era: a consensus paper from the European Myeloma Network (EMN)
In the post-pandemic COVID-19 period, human activities have returned to normal and COVID-19 cases are usually mild. However, patients with multiple myeloma (MM) present an increased risk for breakthrough infections and severe COVID-19 outcomes, including hospitalization and death. The European Myeloma Network has provided an expert consensus to guide patient management in this era. Vaccination with variant-specific booster vaccines, such as the bivalent vaccine for the ancestral Wuhan strain and the Omicron BA.4/5 strains, is essential as novel strains emerge and become dominant in the community. Boosters should be administered every 6-12 months after the last vaccine shot or documented COVID-19 infection (hybrid immunity). Booster shots seem to overcome the negative effect of anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies on humoral responses; however, anti-BCMA treatment remains an adverse predictive factor for humoral immune response. Evaluation of the immune response after vaccination may identify a particularly vulnerable subset of patients who may need additional boosters, prophylactic therapies and prevention measures. Pre-exposure prophylaxis with tixagevimab/cilgavimab is not effective against the new dominant variants and thus is no longer recommended. Oral antivirals (nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and molnupiravir) and remdesivir are effective against Omicron subvariants BA.2.12.1, BA.4, BA.5, BQ.1.1 and/or XBB.1.5 and should be administered in MM patients at the time of a positive COVID-19 test or within 5 days post symptoms onset. Convalescent plasma seems to have low value in the post-pandemic era. Prevention measures during SARS-CoV-2 outbreaks, including mask wearing and avoiding crowded places, seem prudent to continue for MM patients
Between interdependence and autonomy: Toward a typology of work design modes in the new world of work
Despite the rapid pace with which the world of work has been transforming, our concept of work design—the content and organization of work tasks, activities, relationships, and responsibilities—has remained remarkably resistant to change. This shortcoming not only limits our theoretical understanding of work design but also constrains organizations' ability to sufficiently adapt to human resource management (HRM) needs in the new world of work. I review the principal categories of work design to theorize about a typology of work design modes and their inherent HRM configurations. The typology proposes four ideal-typical modes—organization-defined work design, self-directed internal work design, formalized external work design, and self-governing work design—that differ in their requisite degrees of work interdependence and work autonomy. In a second step, I exemplify the conceptual dimensions of the typology in relation to three organizations using the case study as illustrative convention. The typology has several implications for theory, practice, and future research on work design and HRM
Comparison of additive manufacturing technologies for injection molding
The objective of this project is to determine which Additive Manufacturing family between Material Jetting (Polyjet technology) and Vat Photopolymerisation (Stereolithography -SLAtechnology) is the best for the creation of injection molds for the plastic injection process. The comparison was made by analyzing the technological parameters of each technology and the post-injection results regarding the mold and injected parts. The injection process was carried out in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials of TECNUN using the MTT 100 KSA injection molding machine. Specifically, the impression material of each technology (Rigid 10K for SLA and Digital Plus ABS for Polyjet) was compared using heat and tensile tests to analyze the thermal conductivity of each mold. On the other hand, the injected parts were analyzed using a roughness meter and the HandyScan 300 scanner along with the VXinspect software to measure the dimensional and geometric tolerances. It was concluded that Polyjet technology is better for the production of injection molds since with this technology more durable and smooth molds were obtained in less time. Precisely, the results showed that Polyjet technology has a better print quality, and an exceptional surface finish is obtained both in the parts and in the mold. As this technology does not require post-processing processes, it is faster in terms of production. Plus, the printing material ABS Digital Plus does not crack with heat like the mold printed with Rigid 10K for SLA. However, if high precision and tight tolerances are crucial, SLA technology is preferred, as long as production speed and mold durability are not critical parameters
Análisis comparado de sepulcros femeninos españoles y portugueses (siglos XIV-XIX). Estudio de casos
Throughout this article, we will take a look at the lives of different Spanish and Portuguese women of our past. To do so, we will cover a long-term chronological framework, as we begin this research with Urraca Díaz de Haro, whose life was in the 13th century, and we will end with Emilia das Neves from the 19th century. We will also focus our attention on their respective funerary monuments as historical-artistic elements that evoke their memories. By exploring these works, we will see how, over the centuries, both the typology and the iconography have changed in the funerary art of the Iberian Peninsula. Finally, we will make a comparative analysis between the sepulchers of both countries, to see which aspects are similar or different.
Aging the gap: The compensation among men and women executives
In this study, we explore how early career advancement affects the gender pay gap among top executives and argue that an employee's age at attainment of an executive position serves as a signal that helps reduce biases toward women, thereby lowering gender pay differentials. We analyze career data of 803 executives from public high-technology manufacturing firms in the United States by collecting information from ExecuComp, Marquis Who's Who, LinkedIn, and Bloomberg. Our results indicate that attaining a top management position at a young age has a positive effect on pay, particularly among women, and this effect is due to the variable portion of compensation, which represents a large proportion of compensation among top executives. Further, recent research has identified a pay premium among high-potential female managers, although its key drivers remain unclear. This paper explores age as an observable signal that influences this premium and reduces the gender pay gap
