Structural static analysis of a VAWT blade under operational and extreme wind loads

    No full text
This paper deals with numerical static analysis of a straight symmetrical blade for 3KW VAWT (vertical-axis wind turbine). The calculations were performed in order to predict the maximum stress and displacement levels over the blade structure under various loading cases (.i.e. normal and extreme wind conditions). By using SOLIDWORKS commercial software, a finite element (FE) model of blade, which made up of Aluminum material, was analyzed. The results showed that the blade structure would perform adequately withstand extreme load conditions

Recent progress in cellulose hydrophobization by gaseous plasma treatments

    Get PDF
Cellulose is an abundant natural polymer and is thus promising for enforcing biobased plastics. A broader application of cellulose fibers as a filler in polymer composites is limited because of their hydrophilicity and hygroscopicity. The recent scientific literature on plasma methods for the hydrophobization of cellulose materials is reviewed and critically evaluated. All authors focused on the application of plasmas sustained in fluorine or silicon-containing gases, particularly tetrafluoromethane, and hexamethyldisiloxane. The cellulose materials should be pre-treated with another plasma (typically oxygen) for better adhesion of the silicon-containing hydrophobic coating. In contrast, deposition of fluorine-containing coatings does not require pre-treatment, which is explained by mild etching of the cellulose upon treatment with F atoms and ions. The discrepancy between the results reported by different authors is explained by details in the gas phase and surface kinetics, including the heating of samples due to exothermic surface reactions, desorption of water vapor, competition between etching and deposition, the influence of plasma radiation, and formation of dusty plasma. Scientific and technological challenges are highlighted, and the directions for further research are provided.Slovenian Research and Innovation Agenc

The influence of the choice of machining strategy on production technology

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the issue of selecting different machining parameters in the CAM system Siemens NX 1946. The issue of choosing between a solid end mill, milling cutter, and a high-feed tool when machining simple rectangular and rugged cavities concerning time and residual material is solved here. The chosen material was 1.1730, which is a basic material for the production of moulds without heat treatment. The paper deals with the issue of choosing the size of tool feed into the cut and its influence on the formation of the machining path depending on the depth of the cavity. The size of the residual material depends on the machining strategy and the choice of the plunge method into the material with regard to the total machining time. Performed simulations and experiments have shown a significant impact in individual settings and, thus, on the cost of machining components of such shapes.Internal Grant Agency of TBU in Zlin [IGA/FT/2023/005

DIY shoe sewing in a developed economy: Behind the motivation to sew shoes at home

    No full text
This study seeks to identify and understand the motivation of people who sew shoes for themselves or their family members at home. Qualitative analysis of in-depth data from online semi-structured interviews with thirteen respondents was conducted to understand the reasons why they sew shoes at home. The study results were twofold: They confirmed earlier studies investigating the factors that lead people to sew clothes at home. It was confirmed that economics, creativity, originality, and individual needs lead to the decision to sew shoes at home. Also, the overarching reason for the home shoe sewing was the importance of personal fulfilment, achieved through the main emergent themes of entertainment, empowerment, insufficient market, and financial reasons. This study was limited to citizens of the Czech Republic recruited from Facebook pages dedicated to home shoemaking. The study’s significance lies in determining the factors that led Czech consumers to DIY shoe sewing

BACKGROUND: Sport in the 21st century represents a multidisciplinary field its an indispensable role in the lives of individuals and society. Sport is associated inter alia with winning, victory, defeat; teamwork and individualism, professionalism and amateurism, feelings of joy and happiness, as well as with feelings of tension, uncertainty, excitement, and taking risks. Risk also appears within the context of sports betting and gambling, being a characteristic phenomenon there. This kind of risk brings both positives and negatives for the participants. University students represent a specific demographic group for whom this risk holds a certain appeal and interest. AIM: The primary aim of this paper was to determine whether there is a correlation between the experience of the survey sample of respondents in sports betting, as a category of gambling, and their biological age, gender, and the type of faculty they study. The secondary objective was to identify the preferred sports concerning sports betting among respondents in the Czech Republic. METHODS: In this research paper, various scientific research and mathematical-statistical methods were applied. Furthermore, citation and reference databases Scopus, and the bibliographic and citation database Web of Science were used. SAMPLE: The research sample consisted of two categories of respondents. Those with a prior experience in sports betting (N = 391) and those without any prior experience in sports betting (N = 679). The respondents were university students in the Czech Republic. RESULTS: The results suggested that biological age does not significantly impact the experience of the survey sample of respondents regarding sports betting, as a category of gambling. Additionally, it was discovered that gender, as well as the type of faculty the respondents study influenced the experience of the respondents in sports betting, as a category of gambling. CONCLUSIONS: The most frequently preferred sports activity for sports betting among university students in the Czech Republic is football.FaME Tomas Bata University, (RVO/2022

Innovation management approaches: Design value calculator gamification

    Get PDF
Design is a specific form of complex innovation that affects all areas of an organization's management. However, the essence of design is vague, and it is difficult to fully grasp the concept of design. Therefore, it is difficult to find criteria for determining its value. The problem of establishing a causal relationship between design value and user experience is addressed in this paper. The relationship between these two variables affects the importance of design in organizations and can be used to quantify the value of design. Indeed, based on the results of existing research, it is known that this term has many meanings, and it is necessary to reject the possibility of its total quantification. Much of the related research has focused on the area of user experience and customer value, while other related research has focused on design value, which cannot be measured directly but rather, for example, through system dynamic modelling. This approach, i.e., the use of a system dynamic model to determine the value of design, is still missing in the research literature. The main research method for determining the value of design is the experimental method, supported by other research methods: modelling and structured questioning. Inputs to the model, which represent the opinions of the company's managers on the design, are obtained through a board game that provides an attractive and easy-to-understand user interface for the research participants. The value of design is determined by using a sample case study that contains key variables according to the company's business model. The value of the design is calculated based on the indicator "design cost-effectiveness" over six years of the start-up company's business. The indicator is experimentally verified in a model with an identical structure and different scenarios concerning the involvement of design change in the economic development of the firm. This paper aims to use the gamified DVCG model as an innovative concept in business management through a case study. The contribution of the paper to science and practice is to provide experimentally validated evidence to help identify the areas where design investments are needed to make the most sense for the economics and management of the organization.Technology Agency of the Czech Republi

The link between socially responsible human resource management and eco-helping behavior in aviation industry – a moderated mediation model

    No full text
Purpose: This study aims to propose a research model that emphasizes the moderating influence of ethical leadership (ELS) and the link between socially responsible human resource management (SRHRM) and leaders’ eco-helping behavior (LEH) in the aviation industry. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used a time-lag research design. Data were gathered from 397 respondents working for aviation companies in Vietnam and analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0. Findings: The findings show that SRHRM has a beneficial effect on LEH through employees’ voluntary workplace green behavior (EVB). Based on social cognitive theory, this study developed a theoretical model of how SRHRM influences LEH through EVB. The authors discovered that SRHRM increased LEH and that EVB mediated this favorable relationship. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that ELS mitigates the indirect impact of SRHRM on LEH via EVB. Research limitations/implications: Future studies should assess constructs with numerous observations across time, with a larger sample size and in different industrial settings. Practical implications: Volunteerism is one of the most important values in the aviation industry given that it is vulnerable to practices such as overbooking, delaying, postponing flights and pressure weather. Originality/value: This study emphasized the impact of SRHRM and ELS on LEH while fulfilling their professional obligations. EVB may be best positioned to mediate the relationship between SRHRM and LEH.Finance Authority of Maine, FAME; Univerzita Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně, UTBInternal Grant Agency of FaME, Tomas Bata Universit

Full-state feedback LQR with integral gain for control of induction heating of steel billet

    Get PDF
Induction heating is widely used in industrial furnaces due to its rapid response and energy efficiency. Computer-aided modelling and simulation are necessary for the design and optimisation of these furnaces. This article focuses on modelling and simulating induction heating of a one-dimensional spatial partial differential model for a rectangular carbon steel billet. The simulation considered temperature dynamics, including the skin effect and heat loss via radiation. The partial differential model was converted into a state-space model for designing a full-state feedback Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) with integral action. This controller was effectively applied to regulate the billet's core temperature from 1000 °C to 1200 °C, under different input, R and state, Q, weighing matrices for the LQR, as well as in the presence of disturbances.Anhui University of Technology, AHUT; Univerzita Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně, UTB; Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology; Agentúra na Podporu Výskumu a Vývoja, APVV, (APVV 21-0195, APVV-22-0436); Ministry of Education of Slovak Republic, (KEGA-024STU-4/2023); Internal Grant Agency, (IGA/CebiaTech/2023/004)Slovak Research and Development Agency [APVV-22-0436, APVV-21- 0195]; Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education of Slovak Republic [KEGA-024STU-4/2023]; Internal Grant Agency of Tomas Bata University [IGA/CebiaTech/2023/004]; Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technolog

Magnetic and electric effects in magnetorheological suspensions based on silicone oil and polypyrrole nanotubes decorated with magnetite nanoparticles

    Get PDF
In this work, two magnetorheological suspensions composed of polypyrrole nanorods decorated with magnetite nanoparticles and suspended in silicone oil were studied as electrical devices. The electrical devices (EDs) were fabricated in a unique cell using nanotubes with different magnetic and electric properties which can be tailored during synthesis. The electrical effects of the suspensions were studied under static electric and magnetic fields and were superimposed on a medium-frequency electric field. The electrical resistance Rp and the quality factor Qp at the terminals of EDs were extracted and analysed. Additionally, the equivalent electrical capacitances Cp were obtained through a well-established theory and then compared for each ED. Through the electrical and magnetic dipolar approximation model, it was illustrated that the electrical effect induced in a suspension can be three times higher depending on the amount of the magnetite. Thus, by tuning the synthesis parameters, it is possible to obtain EDs with well-defined and unique properties.Grantová Agentura České Republiky, GA ČR, (23-07244S); Grantová Agentura České Republiky, GA ČR; Tomas Bata University in Zlín, TBU, (IGA/CPS/2024/008); Tomas Bata University in Zlín, TB

Investigating accountant’s perception on public servants’ budget-slack fraud behaviour in developing economies using fraud triangle analysis

    No full text
This quantitative study investigates the perceptions of accountants in explaining budget-related fraud behaviour of public servants in developing economies using the elements of the fraud triangle theory. Fraud triangle elements constitute the Pressure, opportunity and rationalization dimensions that cause fraud. This study seeks to extend this theory to budget slack fraud investigation in the public sector to fill an existing gap. It therefore aims to test if indications of fraud based on the concept of fraud triangle can be used to detect public servants’ budget slack fraud behaviour in developing countries like The Gambia. The population in this study constituted all accountants in the public and private sector. Convenience sampling technique was used to collect primary data via an online questionnaire instrument containing Likert-style questions with 51% response rate. The Likert-style questions drawn on the concept of fraud triangle analysis helped to realize the study’s objectives. The result showed that components of Fraud Triangle analysis, Pressure, Opportunity and Rationalization variables have significant combined linear/predictive effect on BSFB, with the greatest influence coming from Opportunity variable. Moreover, the predictors in a multiple regression model generated 73% variance/prediction strength in budget-related fraud behaviour of which 27% are accounted for by residuals. These findings align with literature and have implication for policy and further research.Management of Tomas Bata University in Zlín; Internal Grant Agency, (IGA/FaME/2024/014
