    Peer-provider participation in the sharing economy: The moderating role of warm glow emotion and underlying motivations

    Peer providers play a crucial role in the growth and sustainability of the sharing economy. However, the psychology and behavior of peer providers who assume the role of suppliers on sharing economy platforms have received insufficient attention in the literature. This study proposes a model that examines the role of warm glow emotion, perceived economic, social, and environmental benefits, and trust beliefs on attitudes and supply intentions on the platform. An online scenario-based survey involving 361 platform users was conducted, and data were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling technique. The results indicate that warm glow feelings positively influence peer-provider participation. A strong warm glow feeling can also reduce decision-making complexity by enhancing trust and attitudes towards sharing. Perceived social benefits emerge as the strongest predictor of attitudes, followed by trust beliefs and perceived economic benefits; surprisingly, the influence of perceived environmental benefits is dismissed. This study contributes to the sharing economy literature by elucidating the key emotional and psychological factors that precede peer-provider participation. It extends the warm glow-giving theory and emotion literature to contexts beyond charitable and environmental acts.     The impact of tax avoidance on cost of debt: The moderating role of ownership structure in Vietnamese listed companies from 2010 to 2021

    This study investigates the effect of tax avoidance behavior on the cost of debt among listed companies in Vietnam from 2010 to 2021. Using a sample of non-financial enterprises, the authors examine the direct relationship between tax avoidance and cost of debt, as well as the moderating role of institutional and managerial ownership. The findings suggest that tax avoidance behavior increases the cost of debt, and this effect is more pronounced among enterprises with low institutional and managerial ownership. The study highlights the potential trade-offs between the benefits and risks of tax avoidance and the importance of ownership structure in mitigating agency problems. The findings contribute to the literature on tax avoidance and cost of debt in emerging markets and have practical implications for policymakers and corporate decision-makers in Vietnam

    Swipe, watch, buy: Unraveling the power of product placement in short videos on youth impulse purchasing

    Drawing from the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) model, this research aims to assess the dynamic impact of short-video product placement on the impulse buying behavior of young consumers. A structured survey was administered to a sample of 328 young consumers, aged between 18 and 30, who regularly engage with short video content on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Reels. The findings reveal that product relevance significantly enhances enjoyment, thereby improving engagement with narratives that incorporate product placements seamlessly. Emotional appeal in content markedly increases this enjoyment, underlining the effectiveness of emotionally resonant narratives and visuals. The study further demonstrates that a robust product-influencer fit amplifies the authenticity of the advertising message, leading to greater content enjoyment for viewers. Crucially, it confirms that the perceived enjoyment derived from engaging with short videos has a positive correlation with impulse buying behavior among young consumers. These insights underscore the importance of emotional and experiential elements in short-video content, shaping the purchasing decisions of younger audiences. This research contributes to the understanding of effective marketing strategies in the evolving digital realm, emphasizing the necessity for content creators and advertisers to prioritize narrative integration, emotional connectivity, and authenticity of influencer endorsements to effectively captivate and influence the youth market

    Evaluation of value-added by-products from steam explosion lignocellulosic biomass (Triticum aestivum, Zea mays, and Phragmites australis)

    Significant biorefinery potential is held in by-products generated during the production of bio-based insulation material through steam explosion pretreatment of lignocellulosic materials. However, the composition and potential uses of these by-products have not been fully explored. The objective of this study is to characterize the major decomposition components generated during steam explosion pretreatment of wheat (Triticum aestivum) straw, corn (Zea mays) stalks, and reed (Phragmites australis) as second-generation lignocellulosic biomass, in the separated liquid fraction consisting of volatiles and water-dissolved compounds. Decomposition occurred via steam explosion characterized by two key parameters: (1) severity factor (logR0), which combines reaction time and temperature, ranging from 3.25 to 3.75, and (2) pressure, set at 16 and 30 bar. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography were used to analyze sugars, as well as phenolics, furan derivatives, and acids. The highest simple sugar yield (59.2 g/kg biomass) was detected in reed liquid fraction, significantly exceeding corn stalks and wheat straw (21.3 g/kg biomass each). Subsequent acid hydrolysis enhanced the simple sugar content of reed liquid fraction up to 150.4 g/kg biomass, up to 64.5 g/kg biomass for corn stalks and up to 88.3 g/kg biomass wheat straw. These findings show the promising potential of bio-based insulation by-products generated by steam explosion.     The role of a team psychological safety feeling in teamwork in the classroom

    Active cooperation is expected from the student in the education center, which is associated with fears of expressing their opinions, because a possible mistake may result in a negative reaction from the environment. In our research, we investigated the impact of team psychological safety feelings on students' willingness to engage in active learning. 244 students aged 18 and 19 participated in the research. A mixed methods approach was used to obtain the necessary data. By data analysis, we revealed three separate dimensions in respondents' answers to questionnaire items. According to our findings, students' involvement in active learning is strongly supported by their internal motivation to acquire new knowledge and trust in the class collective. A sense of psychological team safety has an important place in encouraging the student to engage in common activities.     The composition optimization of curcumin-loaded double oil-water-oil emulsions and their stability evaluation

    This study aimed to optimize the preparation of multiple oil–water–oil (O/W/O) emulsions using varying amounts of Tween 20 emulsifier, different homogenization methods, and optimal preparation temperatures as carriers for encapsulated curcumin. Following the optimization process, the optimal preparation temperature was found to be 25 °C, with a homogenization speed of 10,000 RPM and an emulsifier concentration of 0.5% Tween 20. Subsequently, the effects of physicochemical and viscoelastic properties on the different types of oils used in the outer phase, as well as the impact of storage time, were monitored. The novelty of this work lies in its comprehensive analysis of the stability and encapsulation efficiency of multiple emulsions using various oils, an area that has not been extensively explored before. After identifying the optimal preparation procedure, all samples with different edible oils demonstrated excellent stability and encapsulation efficiency, showing minimal variation in results. The most stable multiple emulsion was found to be the one with coconut oil in the outer phase, exhibiting half the particle size compared to other samples and the lowest encapsulation efficiency losses over 50 days of storage.     Advanced sensors and sensing systems for structural health monitoring in aerospace composites

    This review examines the state-of-the-art sensors and sensing technologies employed for structural health monitoring (SHM) in aerospace composites, highlighting the shift from conventional nondestructive evaluation techniques to real-time monitoring systems. The review discusses the challenges associated with composite materials, such as their anisotropic nature and susceptibility to invisible damage, and how these challenges have driven the improvement of SHM techniques. Fiber-optic sensors, including interferometric, distributed, and grating-based sensors, are analyzed for their high sensitivity and multiplexing capabilities, making them suitable for distributed sensing applications. Piezoelectric sensors are evaluated for their effectiveness in both active and passive damage detection methods. At the same time, piezoresistive self-sensing systems are explored for their potential to integrate sensing directly into composite materials. The review also addresses the challenges encountered in implementing SHM systems. It suggests solutions like protective coatings, advanced data processing algorithms, and modular system design to overcome these challenges.     Improved mechanical properties of graphene-modified basalt fibre-epoxy composites

    In industrial applications, the potential of basalt fibre-reinforced polymer (BFRP) composite pipes as a compelling alternative to glass and carbon fibre-reinforced composite pipes is recognized. Their high recyclability makes them a viable option for aerospace, marine, and automotive applications. In this study, a comparison is made between the mechanical properties of virgin basalt-epoxy composite pipes and graphene-modified counterparts. To conduct the experiments, pipe section specimens were prepared using a flex grinding machine. Graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs), serving as an exceptional reinforcing material, were uniformly incorporated into the basalt-epoxy composites at a specific concentration. The inclusion of these nanoplatelets resulted in significant changes in mechanical stiffness compared to the virgin basalt-epoxy composite pipes. A series of tests, including uniaxial tensile, Charpy impact, microhardness, Shore D hardness, uniaxial 3-point bending, and dynamic displacement transmissibility tests, were carried out to assess the mechanical properties of both graphene-reinforced and virgin basalt-epoxy pipes. The findings indicated that the pure basalt-epoxy composite exhibited lower ductility compared to the graphene basalt-epoxy composites after undergoing uniaxial mechanical loading. Non-destructive dynamic mechanical vibration testing was used to investigate the complex mechanical response of the materials under examination. The observed complex frequency-dependent responses reflected the mutual ductile/brittle mechanical performance of the developed composites.Jan Amos Komensky Operational Program [.     Participation in non-formal adult education within the European context: examining multilayer approach

    Participation in non-formal adult education (NFE) is considered an essential part of lifelong learning, aiming to foster the development of individuals and societies. This significance is particularly evident today, given the era of extensive digitalization and disruptive technological advances. Nevertheless, not all adults participate in organized learning and have equal chances. Therefore, this study addresses the absence of up-to-date comparative findings on participation in NFE in the post-COVID-19 world. To this end, we examine current trends in NFE participation in four European countries: Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic (RQ1), where we explore the impact of key micro (social and behavioral), meso (job-related), and macro-level (country-specific) factors on this participation (RQ2). Our findings indicate that NFE participation remained relatively stable in 2022 compared to 2016, except for Sweden and Germany, which achieved higher participation rates. However, differences in participation between countries are diminishing. Simultaneously, NFE participation is becoming increasingly job-oriented and receives more support from employers. However, it is important to note that inequality in access to NFE persists, as the main predictors of NFE participation, such as learning intentions, educational attainment, economic and occupational status, remain consistent, regardless of the participants’ economic activity and country of birth. This underscores the enduring significance of a key concept behind this study: the willingness to engage in organized NFE exhibits a complex structure with multiple layers

    CiteScore is a measure of the impact of a journal on the scholarly literature over its previous four calendar years. It is the ratio of the total citations to the total journal publications over this interval. For a growing journal, the number of publications in the second and subsequent years of that interval exceeds that in the first year. The more rapid the growth, the greater these differences. Publications in the first year are, of course, older than those of the second year and continue to attract citations in the second and subsequent years. Thus, the increase in citations cannot keep pace with the increase in publications, and positive journal growth skews the CiteScore metric downward. We explore this CiteScore growth penalty and arrive at a simple way to growth-adjust the CiteScore
