The growth-adjusted CiteScores of Physics of Fluids
From Phan-Thien et al., “Growth-adjusted CiteScore,” Phys. Fluids 36(7), 070403 (2024), we learn that journal growth decreases CiteScore (all else being held equal). In this Editorial, we apply the teachings of Phan-Thien et al. to growth-adjust the CiteScore of the journal Physics of Fluids. We do so for the years for which the data are available, 2016-2023. We find that, over the course of its history, the growth of Physics of Fluids often suppressed its CiteScore
Modalinis daugiafunkciškumas ir vokiečių kalbos modaliniai žodžiai
This paper points out that there is presently no consistent definition of German modals, nor is there any agreement as to which verbs should be categorized as modals. The paper suggests that modals should be defined based on modal polyfunctionality, i.e. the ability to express both root and epistemic readings. Applying this definition, the paper states that besides canonical dürfen ‘be allowed to’, können ‘can’, mögen ‘may’, müssen ‘must’, sollen ‘should’, wollen ‘want’, verbs werden ‘will’ and brauchen ‘need’ are to be considered modals as well, since they semantically behave as standard modals. More specifically, they are both capable of expressing both root and epistemic modalities. Furthermore, the paper proposes that the absence of agreement in 1st and 3rd person singular in modals such as in ich/er mussØ ‘I/ he must’ cannot be solely attributed to their preterite-present origin of modals, but is related to the synchronic definition of modals, i.e. their polyfunctionality as a result of paradigmatic coherence. In addition to exploring the central modals, the paper investigates the paradigms of brauchen ‘need’, as well as werden ‘will’, suggesting that they might be aligning with the central modals in terms of their agreement morphology as well. The submitted paper points to a problem that concerns the Czech Republic and almost all of Europe. There is a need for more qualified employees across the Labour market. The author's team set the goal of mapping the spa industry situation in the Czech Republic through a nationwide questionnaire survey. The paper aimed to identify the specifics of the lack of staff in spa facilities in the Czech Republic. Based on the results of the analysis, propose measures that can lead to improvement. A contextual model for assessing the nexus between green innovation practices and enterprise performance
The pursuit of green innovation and sustainable practices is increasingly growing currently because of the alarming environmental concerns and the coexistence of economic expansions. But the strategies employed by companies in exploring green innovation activities have gained little or no attention in literature. This study proposes a conceptual model that outlines green innovation strategies, corporate performance, and the moderating effect of green dynamic capacity. Based on the perspective of the Resource Based viewpoint and the notion of dynamic capabilities, this study addresses a) what is the relationship between green innovation practices and enterprise performance? and b) to what extent do green dynamic capabilities moderate the connection between green innovation practices and enterprise performance? We used a cross-sectional data from SMEs in Ghanaian manufacturing firms, analysed utilizing the advanced PLS-SEM systematic procedures. Our findings revealed a significant relationship between green product innovation, green process innovation, and green service innovation on financial performance and that green dynamic capacity moderate these relationships. Our research contributes to expanding the knowledge of green innovative practices among SMEs in the manufacturing sector. The influence of surface properties on the cooperative behavior of powdered milks
This study comprehensively analyzes various powdered milk samples to elucidate their structural, surface, and mechanical properties. Through detailed examination, diverse characteristics among the samples were observed, shedding light on their behavior under different conditions. Notably, findings reveal intriguing insights into surface energy profiles, Harkins spreading coefficient, powder rheological properties, and sound absorption efficiency of the powdered milk samples. The intricate relationship between surface properties and bulk characteristics influenced the cooperative behavior of freely poured and consolidated milk powder beds, resulting in varying flowability from free-flowing to cohesive. Surface energy played a significant role in cohesiveness and dispersibility, with milk fat acting as a key mediator leading to changes in bulk dynamic-mechanical stiffness. The impact of digital technologies on manufacturing SMEs business perfromance
Businesses' ecosystems are ever-changing. In this highly competitive era, manufacturing Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are gradually transforming their business operations with state-of-the-art digital technology. This study has established how digital technologies, such as big data analytics, the Internet of Things, and chatbots technologies, affect the business performance of manufacturing SMEs. However, the business performance of manufacturing SMEs is greatly impacted by digital technologies. The purpose of this research is to investigate how digital technologies affect manufacturing SMEs in emerging nations. The goal of digital technology influence is to boost manufacturing SME productivity. In order to find pertinent materials on the topic, this study's technique, which focuses on document analysis, is qualitative. Nineteen empirical papers were used in arriving at the objective of the study through the database of Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scopus through keyword search. It was discovered that digital technologies significantly enhance the business performance of manufacturing SMEs. The current study has provided new directions, insights and structure for future studies since there is little research on digital technology on manufacturing SMEs. Additionally, the research will assist leaders in their efforts to defend the expenditure of funds on the construction of technology infrastructure for their organizations
Advanced signal processing techniques for monitoring east/west oriented solar photovoltaic systems: A case study
Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are increasingly recognized as crucial sustainable energy sources with diverse applications. Their implementation leverages rapid advancements in material engineering, communication systems, and computational intelligence tools. This paper focuses on selected mathematical methods for analyzing time series of power generated by PV systems, including numerical methods and algorithms for multichannel signal processing, digital filtering, and signal feature extraction. These methods monitor the characteristics of individual PV panels and identify their feature clusters. Specifically, it examines systems with east/west oriented photovoltaic panels, employing statistical methods and computational tools to analyze power signals, assess time and positioning data, evaluate symmetry coefficients, and apply machine learning tools to detect potential panel failures. Additionally, a general graphical user interface for data analysis is proposed. A detailed case study is presented, analyzing the distribution of selected features over time segments of a PV system comprising seven east-oriented and seven west-oriented panels, with data recorded over a selected set of days at a sampling rate of 15 minutes. The results reveal distinct and well-separated feature clusters for healthy PV panels. Applied analysis of differences by cross-correlation functions
The testing of the statistically significant similarities between two different data series cannot be measured using by Wilcoxon or T paired test, because there is not exists pretest and posttest. For the alternative way of testing the similarities, when data has some boundness, the proposal of using cross-correlation tests is presented in this paper. When necessary, the condition is existing some same characteristics, which can be seen as the connection of two power system nodes in the power transmission system. The cross-correlation analysis can be suitably complemented using by computing the p values between the correlation data themselves, which in addition, the trend of correlation data is measured for expression of the dynamic of cross-correlation achieved data. Application of the proposed method is realized on the real data set of the behavior of power transmission systems in the Moravia-Silesian region
Polyacrylate latex coating binders comprising polypyrrole component prepared with “one-pot” synthesis
This work deals with the coating properties of synthetic latices comprising two kinds of polymers, specifically polyacrylate and polypyrrole, which were simultaneously formed by semi-continuous emulsion polymerization using a “one-pot” synthesis strategy. In this procedure, both the emulsion polymerization of acrylate monomers and the oxidative polymerization of pyrrole occurred concurrently in one reactor. Polyacrylate latices differing in polypyrrole loading were prepared by applying various dosages of pyrrole, specifically 0, 0.25, and 0.50, based on the fraction of acrylate monomers. The effect of the in situ incorporated polypyrrole component (having the nature of submicron composite polypyrrole-coated polyacrylate latex particles) on the physico-mechanical properties and chemical resistance of the resulting heterogeneous coating films was investigated. The interaction of incorporated polypyrrole and anti-corrosion pigments (see ZnS, Zn3(PO4)2, ZnFe2O4, MoS2, and ZnO) on the corrosion resistance of coatings was evaluated by using the electrochemical linear polarization technique. The polyacrylate latex prepared with the lowest polypyrrole loading (achieved by polymerizing 0.25 wt. % of pyrrole related to acrylic monomers) was found to be the optimum binder for waterborne anticorrosive coatings based on their properties and protective function. Their compatibility with the selected types of pigments was studied for these latex binders. In addition, their influence on the anti-corrosion efficiency of polyacrylate paint films was evaluated using the linear polarization electrochemical technique. For high corrosion resistance, the ZnS and MoS2 pigments, showing compatibility with polyacrylate latices containing the polypyrrole component, proved to be advantageous
Morphology-tuned ZnO and Ag/ZnO nanostructures for photoelectrochemical water splitting and hydrogen-sensing applications
ZnO nanorods topped by ZnO nanowire web-like structures were synthesized hydrothermally and functionalized with Ag nanoparticles via photoreduction. In addition to characterizations by XRD, SEM, and UV–vis, surface decoration effects on chemiresistive hydrogen sensing and on photoelectrochemical hydrogen production were investigated. The samples exhibited stable and excellent detection for hydrogen at 150 °C temperature over the range from 500 to 25 000 ppm. Ag nanodecoration enhanced the sensor sensitivity significantly, especially at lower hydrogen concentrations. The performance of samples utilized as photoanodes in photoelectrochemical water splitting under AM 1.5G irradiation was evaluated. For the Ag/ZnO sample, a significantly higher photocurrent (0.20 mA/cm2) was achieved compared to the ZnO sample (0.15 mA/cm2), which was attributed to extended visible light absorption of the Ag/ZnO sample.
