Documents mainly consist of correspondence from the Program Secretariat to Chris Hurford as Member for Adelaide, informing him of the details of the scheme and project applications, approvals and rejections in his electorate, from 1983 to 1986. Other documents include: guidelines and application forms for the Program; news clippings and press releases; notes from a meeting with the Program’s local Project Officer, October 1984; correspondence to Mr Hurford from the Women’s Adviser of the South Australian Government seeking support for a campaign to enrol more women in the Program, October 1984; notes on the efforts of Mr Hurford’s staff to publicise his involvement with the Program, March 1985.
English language assessment in the context of policy innovation : a case study of how teachers interpret and manage assessment practices
No full textThe nature and level of complexity of this expansion are reflected in the first four findings of this study: (1) Teachers reframed their EL specialist roles to broaden students’ learning. Consistent with their reframed roles, they (2) expanded the EL learning and assessment constructs as well as (3) the range of elicitation and judging procedures used to assess the expanded constructs. While these findings on the nature of expansion were not without tension, the greatest tension was evident when (4) teachers addressed the level of complexity of the expansion by reconsidering assessment standards. A fifth finding was that (5) teachers functioned as a school-based EL assessment community to enable the expansion. In short, teachers worked in a conceptual and collaborative way to expand their EL assessment practices in order to enhance their students’ learning. The findings of the study are significant to the growing research field of AfL, and, equally, EL assessment in the following ways: (1) AfL requires a significant reframing of assessment roles for teachers; (2) AfL enables a qualitatively different learning experience for students; (3) AfL is contingent on a supportive policy context; (4) AfL includes school-based approaches; and (5) AfL needs to be considered and implemented in disciplinary terms.

Documents mainly consist of correspondence to Chris Hurford as Member for Adelaide from local superannuants affected by the decision and his responses outlining the Government’s position. Other documents include news clippings on superannuation changes in June 1987 and correspondence from Peter Walsh as Minister for Finance reiterating the Government’s intention to reverse the superannuation discount when affordable, April 1987.

No full textThis is a collection of four notebooks containing records of electorate correspondence files in Chris Hurford’s office, covering the period between late 1973 and 1981. The records are organised alphabetically and by year, and record the date of creation of the file, the name of the constituent or organisation concerned, the subject matter and the file code. Some of these files are kept in series CH20 of this archive, and the continuation of these records after 1981 can be found in box 1 of that series.
A Method for Practical Zero Carbon Refurbishments: A Residential Case Study
No full textThe existing Australian building stock is responsible for around one quarter of our total greenhouse gas (GhG) emissions, and it is being replaced at a very slow rate. We urgently need to retrofit these buildings to reduce our GhG emissions to meet Australia’s expectations and international obligations. This paper illustrates a method of finding practical refurbishment options to reduce GhG emissions in a brick veneer residential project home by employing best practice passive solar house strategies. The method uses the second generation residential energy rating software, AccuRate to gauge the effectiveness of each option, and then estimates the cost of those options, including current government rebates. The paper also considers the lessons learnt from the design of the solar photovoltaic system, and considers the advantages of using GreenPower. The case study uses various criteria to rank the strategy results e.g. the star rating (the ceiling R4 insulation increase was two points); the savings of the energy required for comfort; the cost; and the extent of carbon reductions. The case study also shows the dramatic impact of the solar photovoltaic system
