    No full text
Riverbanks in semi-arid Mediterranean environments are dynamic features constantly shaped by natural factors and human interventions. Wadi Tamri’s lower valley, with its large alluvial plain, fragile terraces, and mixed marine/continental deposits, is a typical semi-arid fluvial landscape highly vulnerable to floods. This paper examines the dynamics and vulnerabilities of Wadi Tamri’s lower historic terraces and their landscape evolution from 1984 to 2024. It analyses river morphology and bank retreat in relation to sediment, vegetation, climate, and stream flow changes. It uses satellite imagery to identify vulnerable areas and assess channel/riverbank transformations in post-wet years and on the basis of field investigations. Multiple methods, including spade, aggregate, water retention, sedimentological (jar test), and clod cohesion (Slake) tests, provide an assessment of bank fragility and recession. The results show that Wadi Tamri’s lower sector is the most unstable, exhibiting natural morphodynamic changes (channel multiplication, bar development, lateral displacements) in 1983, 2010, and 2014. There was significant bank regression between 2000 and 2010 and increased stability (bars and vegetation) from 2010 to 2024. The increased stability, resulting partly from low flows regulated by the Moulay Abdellah dam upstream, provides valuable insights for managing fluvial landscapes exposed to human pressure and heightened flood/erosion risks in the study area.

Accordingly, resident entities that record losses can obtain a refund of the withholding tax on dividends, while the withholding tax in the case of non-resident entities is configured as a definitive tax, without any possibility of obtaining such advantage even if they are in an objectively comparable situation. Thus, the Court examines whether this difference in treatment is based on compelling reasons of general interest, reaching the conclusion that the restriction on the free movement of capital is not justified

Thirty years of ADHD and WISC in scientific research: A systematic review of cognitive profile and index discrepancies

    No full text
Several decades have passed since the initial exploration of the cognitive profile of ADHD using the WISC. Since then, the scientific evidence on the topic has grown and evolved, at times being contradictory. Therefore, it is considered valuable to collect, analyze, compare, and synthesize the findings from the past 30 years. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. The sources of information included the WoS, Scopus, PsycInfo, and MedLine databases, and the search terms applied were: (ADHD OR ‘attention deficit’ OR hyperactive*) AND (WISC*). Some of the inclusion criteria were: Participants were males and/or females aged between 6 and 16 years, formally diagnosed with ADHD, and assessed using the WISC-IV and/or the WISC-III. A total of 27 high-quality studies, with 6,486 participants across them, published up to September 2024, were analyzed. The systematic review, supported by a simple complementary statistical approach, suggests a cognitive profile characterized by higher scores on VC and PR/PO and lower scores on WM/FFD and PS. The index discrepancies that arise from comparing VC and PR/PO scores with WM/FFD and PS scores range from five to ten points. For the assessment of ADHD, as a complementary tool to the observation scales, it could be useful to use the WISC, examine the cognitive profile and index discrepancies, always with careful interpretation by an experienced professional in the field of psychology, psychopedagogy, psychiatry or neuropsychology. OR ‘attention deficit’ OR hyperactive*) AND (WISC*). This research was funded by the Vice-rectorate of Research, Development and Innovation of the University of Alicante, Grant number: GRE21-15

Comovement of labor supply and human capital investment in policy analysis

    No full text
Quantitative studies of human capital report the comovement of labor and human capital investment in response to policy changes, which is usually understood based on the intuition that human capital is utilized only while working: both inputs are complements in the formation of effective labor. Given the lack of (i) theoretical analysis of exact conditions and (ii) the preference-side intuition that both inputs involve disutility leading to a similar comovement, we fill the gap. The general condition for the comovement specifies the minimum extent of disutility smoothing between labor and human capital investment, and the prior intuition relaxes this condition, raising comovement possibilities. The conclusion has wide applicabilities in policy analysis.

    No full text
The present work includes the regulatory regulations and legal considerations that the fees for the free professional practice of healthcare assistants have had since the promulgation of their official registration at the beginning of the 20th century until 2009. For some eighty years, the liberal practice of Practitioners, Midwives, Healthcare Technical Assistants (HTAs) and Nurses has been regulated economically by fees agreed upon by the profession, which indicated the economic amount to be charged for the different professional activities of the aforementioned group. After the official establishment of the Practitioners’ and Midwives’ Associations and their compulsory affiliation, the fees became mandatory, with minimum amounts to be charged for the work carried out. It was in 1996 when the consideration of “Minimum Fees” became “Guideline Fees”, with professionals establishing what they should receive for their services, following the recommendations made by their professional association. This situation remained until the enactment of the popularly known Omnibus Law (2009), which abolished all types of tariffs or scales of professional fees in the free practice of the profession.

Near-Real-Time Integration of Multi-Source Seismic Data

    No full text
The reliable and continuous acquisition of seismic data from multiple open sources is essential for real-time monitoring, hazard assessment, and early-warning systems. However, the heterogeneity among existing data providers such as the United States Geological Survey, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, and the Spanish National Geographic Institute creates significant challenges due to differences in formats, update frequencies, and access methods. To overcome these limitations, this paper presents a modular and automated framework for the scheduled near-real-time ingestion of global seismic data using open APIs and semi-structured web data. The system, implemented using a Docker-based architecture, automatically retrieves, harmonizes, and stores seismic information from heterogeneous sources at regular intervals using a cron-based scheduler. Data are standardized into a unified schema, validated to remove duplicates, and persisted in a relational database for downstream analytics and visualization. The proposed framework adheres to the FAIR data principles by ensuring that all seismic events are uniquely identifiable, source-traceable, and stored in interoperable formats. Its lightweight and containerized design enables deployment as a microservice within emerging data spaces and open environmental data infrastructures. Experimental validation was conducted using a two-phase evaluation. This evaluation consisted of a high-frequency 24 h stress test and a subsequent seven-day continuous deployment under steady-state conditions. The system maintained stable operation with 100% availability across all sources, successfully integrating 4533 newly published seismic events during the seven-day period and identifying 595 duplicated detections across providers. These results demonstrate that the framework provides a robust foundation for the automated integration of multi-source seismic catalogs. This integration supports the construction of more comprehensive and globally accessible earthquake datasets for research and near-real-time applications. By enabling automated and interoperable integration of seismic information from diverse providers, this approach supports the construction of more comprehensive and globally accessible earthquake catalogs, strengthening data-driven research and situational awareness across regions and institutions worldwide. This work has been partially supported by the SATRAI project (CIGE/2024/199), funded by the Generalitat Valenciana, and by the HELEADE project (TSI-100121-2024-24), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Digital Processing and the European Union through NextGenerationEU

Unraveling the interfacial degradation mechanism of metal oxide electrocatalyst/gas diffusion layer in Zn-Air batteries through FIB-SEM analysis

    No full text
Focused Ion Beam -Scanning Electron Microscopy (FIB-SEM) was employed to investigate the Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL), electrocatalyst, and electrolyte interface in rechargeable Zn-Air Batteries (ZABs) using Fresh and Used samples (before and after long-term electrocatalytic activity, respectively). The electrocatalyst was based on (hydro-)oxides of manganese, cobalt and lanthanum and carbon material. The results reveal a loss of material compaction in the Used sample, accompanied by the formation of pores and irregular gaps, as well as enhanced permeation of the electrocatalyst through the GDL, as evidenced in the tomogram. Interestingly, the analysis of the distribution of elements in the Used sample shows important differences, strongly dependent on their chemical properties in the electrolyte used. Mn and Co, the more electroactive elements for the oxygen-involved reactions, remain in proximity to the electrolyte interface, while La forms a preferential region more distant and parallel to the electrolyte. XPS results indicate that the formation of this region is associated with the generation of lanthanum acetate species, which are responsible for the decrease in conductivity of the Used sample, as demonstrated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) experiments, in addition to impairing O 2 diffusion along the GDL. Furthermore, DFT calculations support that the formation of lanthanum acetate species from the metal (hydro)oxides is energetically favorable in presence of zinc acetate electrolyte in ZABs.The authors would like to thank PID2022-137566OB-I00 project funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and “ERDF/EU”.

    No full text
This editorial reflects on the kitchen as an essential space for domestic care in a world where haste and urbanization threaten to empty everyday life of its meaning. In the face of predictions that by 2050 homes will no longer have kitchens, it is argued that this space is not just another room, but the heart of the home, where connections with the world are woven and where caring becomes a radical act of resistance and humanity. The kitchen holds the wisdom of our roots and the history of the women who, for generations, have cared for families while nourishing both bodies and souls. Renouncing it is a symptom of the transformation of our ways of inhabiting, forgetting that the city itself was born from working the land and that the home is a place of welcome, not only for humans but for all forms of life. By sustaining intimacy and care, the home connects us to who we are, and its hospitality must be defended against the commodification of time and the loss of community bonds. Faced with a planet increasingly turned into a city, the home must become a space of expanded care, reminding us that the earth does not belong to us, but that we live in and through it. Recovering the kitchen as a space for gathering, sharing knowledge, and everyday care is key to resisting social homogenization and contemporary emptiness, allowing us to return to the rituals and values that sustain life. In this way, the homes of tomorrow can continue to be spaces where everyday happiness is built through care.
