THE CHANGES OF THE TESTOSTERONE HORMONE LEVEL DURING PREPUBERTAL PERIODE IN INDUCED HYPOTHYROIDISM RATS
The one the influence factors to the normal functions and testes growth is thyroid gland status. The knowledge about the influences of euthyroid, and hypenhyroid to thetesies growth will help to give more understanding of the normal lestes growth. The new born male rats were used todetect the influence of hypothyroidism to the testosterone level during prepubertal periode. Twenty primigravida pregnant rats (Rattus norvegicus albinus) were used. After birth, the male pups were divided inio controls and treatments group. Mothers of the treatment group were given 0,1% 6-n-prapyl-2-thiauracil (PTU), via drinking water, ad libitum, after birth until on day 8. On dary 27, 30, 37, 44, and 51, five control pups and 5 treatment pups were sacrificed. The blood from each pup were collected to detec serum testosteron hormone level using immunoradLometric assay (IRMA) method. The research showed that serum testosteron level ofthe; treated group increased on day 30 (P<0,05) and day 37(P<0,05). HISTOPATHOLOGICAL CHANGES OF SCHISTOSOMIASIS FROM NAPU VALLEY, CENTRAL SULAWESI, 1NDONESIA
Schistosomiasis is an endemic disease caused by the infection Schistosoma Japonicum (Trematoda), can attack human and animals surrounding Lindu lake and Napu valley. Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Five mice were naturally infected through subcuian with 75 cercariae of Schistosoma japonicum emerged from snail, Oncomelanic hupensis lindoensis, which were found in the Napu valley, Central Sulawesi. Mice showed a weakness, anorrhexia, stomach ache,and died in the fifth, sixth and seventh week posiinfection. At autopsy, mice had ascites, yellowish nodules on the surface of lung, liver, serosa of the small intestine, and mesenterium. Histolagically, there were severe necrosis and the granolomatous inflammation of the liver, the spleen, the lung, the pancreas, and the small intestine
The Effect of Sinbiotic Supplement as Replacement for Antibiotic Growth Promoter on Growth and Size of Intestinal Villi in Broiler Chicken
Over the past few decades, antibiotics have been used as growth promoters in poultry diet to improve animal performance and to obtain economic benefits. The aim of this study was to know the effect of sinbiotic derived from Bacillus subtilis as probiotic and Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall combination as one of antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) in broilers. Group 1 (control), group 2 (AGP), and group 3 (sinbiotic). Broilers from each group were necropsied for histological preparation and the length and width of intestinal villus were measured histologically. The data were taken from feed, body weight, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and the length and width of intestinal villi. Analysis of Variance were used to analize the data. The results of the length and width of the duodenum, jejunum, and colon villi in group 3 and group 1 were showed significant differences (P <0.05) as well as a comparison between group 3 and group 2. Statistical analysis of weight gain during 5 weeks was showed significant differences (P <0.05) between groups except at week 2 and 3. Analysis of FCR was showed that there were significant differences (P <0.05) between groups on a weekly basis. It was concluded that sinbiotic increase the length and width of intestinal villi, increase the body weight gain ofchicken, and reduce the value of FCR, therefore sinbiotic can be used as an alternative replacement for Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP)
Acute Toxicity Test of Polysaccharides Krestin from Coriolus versicolor Extract with Parameters of Hepatocyte Damages, SGPT and SGOT Enzyme in Mice
Coriolus versicolor is a mushroom that has polysaccharopeptide krestin (PSK) and polysaccharopeptide (PSP). Many reports showed that polysaccharide krestin as a compound which could reduce mutagen induction, radiation, and development of cancer spontaneusly. However, all substances entering in body could change become toxic depending on dosage. Therefore, this research was aimed to know the effects of PSK on hepatocyte damages, SGPT and SGOT enzymes. Polysaccharide krestin was given by intraperitoneal injection once with treatment groups as follow: K0, was given only saline; P1, was given 80 mg/kg BB PSK dosage; P2, was given 120 mg/ kg BB PSK dosage; P3, was given 160 mg/ kg BB PSK dosage; P4, was given 200 mg/ kg BB PSK dosage; dan P5, was given 240 mg/ kg BB PSK dosage. The results showed that PSK caused hepatic lesions, such as parenchymatous (hydrophic) degeneration of hepatocytes in groups P2 and P3, mild to moderate necrosis in group P4, and moderate to severe necrosis in group P5. Level of SGPT enzyme was not increased, butlevel of SGOT enzyme was increased in mice given 160 mg/ kg BB dosage with value 151,62 ± 26,62 IU/ L
Antioxidant Effect of Ethanol Extract of Bulbus Dayak Onion (Eleutherine americana) to the Quality of Spermatozoa Exposed by Cigarette Smoke in Rats (Rattus norvegicus)
The toxic substance within the cigarette smoke causing oxidative stress that may damage the quality of spermatozoa. Oxidative stress occurs because the amount of reactive oxygent species and antioxidant produced by the body are not in balanced. One of the alternative approaches of natural antioxidant produced by plant is dayak onion. The bulbus of dayak onion contains steroid, tanin, saphonin, naphtoquinon and flavonoid compound. The aims of this study are to find out the ability of antioxidant from etanol extrat of dayak onion bulbus to increase the quality of spermatozoa affected by smoke and to find out the dose of etanol extrat of dayak onion bulbus that can increase the percentage of viability, morfology, and amount if spermatozoa affected by smoke. In this study, three dose of treatments: 30 mg/kg BW, 60 mg/kg BW, and 90 mg/kb BW were used. The results of dose 30 mg/kg BW, 60 mg/kg BW, and 90 mg/kb BW extended the increased in the normal morfology and amount spermatozoa percentage rather than that of only treated by only the smoke, whereas the viability fordose of 30 mg/kg BW cannot increased in the percentage of spermatozoa viability after affected by smoke
A DISTRIBUTION AND AN IDENTIFICATION OF Culicoides SPECIES (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) IN BOGOR
A distribution and an identification of Culicoides species collected around the cattle farm have been investigated. The purpose of the research is to know the distribution and the species of Culicoides that might be a relevance to bluetongue virus tranmission. A number of 2117Culicoides (Diptera. Ceratopogonedae) was collected from around the castle farm in Depok dan Cibungbulang Bogor municipality. The collection was carried out by pirbright type miniatur light trap. The identification of species of Culicoides was based on the morphological character of the insect according to Wirth and Hubert. The result showed that the number of Culicoides was found in Depok region more than in Cibungbulang. There were 14 species identified from the two region. In Depok, the specieses of Culicoides were dominated by C. parahumeralis Wirth & Hubert, C. actoni Smith, C. oxystoma KiefFer and C. peregrinus Kiefier; whereas in Cibungbulang, they were dominated by C. parahumeralis, C. orientalis Macfiei, C. peregrinus and C oxystoma. The species suspected in their role of bluetongue transmission are C. actoni, C. peregrinus, C.oxystoma and C. orientalis.
THE EFFECT OF CADMIUM CHLORIDE TO THE STERILITY OF MALE RAT
The effect of cadmium chloride (CdO2) to the sterility of male rat have been observed to the first generation (Fj).Sixty white rats consisted of 30 male rats at 3 weeks old divided Into 6 groups and were given CdCl2 orally ad libitum for 42 days, Tl»e concentration of CdCl2 for each group was 0 ppin (group I), 200 ppm (group H), 100 ppm (group ID), 50 ppm (group IV), 25 ppm (group V) and 12,5 ppm (group VI). After treatments, aii male rats were mated with female rats by mixing a couple of rats in a cage for 7 days. Then male rats were kiiied all to examine the histopathoiogy of their testis. The female rats were kept until 18 days of pregnancy, then all were killed. The percentage of pregnancy and the number of baby in each female rat were counted. The histopamoiogy of seminiferous tubules of testis were analysed qualitatively.The results showed that CdCl2 at 12,5 and 25 ppm caused 20% and 40% of infertility. 50 ppm of CdCfe caused 100% of infertility and necrosis of spermatocyte and spermaride celk; there no spematozoa in the seminiferous tubules
Cholesterol Levels In Bligon Goats During Estrous Cycle
The study was aimed to assess the status of cholesterol levels during the estrous cycle in goats. The present study was conducted by using 4 female cycling bligon goats (Capra hircus), aged 2-3 years, weighed 27-45 kgs, and clinically healthy and Venous blood sampling was done on days 1 (estrus), 3-4 (early luteal), 10-16 (late luteal), 17-20 (proestrus) using a syringe and collected in tubes containing lithium heparin. Plasma wasseparated by centrifugation, put into 1.5 ml Eppendorf tube and stored at a temperature of -20° C until analysis performed. Cholesterol levels were measured by using spectrophotometric method. Cholesterol concentrations during the estrous cycle were analyzed by General Linear Model Repeated Measure. The average of cholesterollevels in bligon goats is 52.20 ± 11.11 – 64.50 ± 18.46 mg/dl. The results showed that the concentration of cholesterol was between phases during the estrous cycle was not significantly different (P>0.05). However, there was a decreasing tendency of cholesterol concentration at the early luteal phase (52.20 mg/dl) and at the late luteal (53.19 mg/dl) compared to the levels at the follicular phase (65.50 mg / dl at estrus and 59.22 mg / dl at proestrus ). It can be concluded that the plasma level of cholesterol does not change significantly during theestrous cycle
Prevalency of Nematode in Bali Cattle at Manokwari Regency
This study was conducted from August to October 2006, a disease caused by worms digestive tract is one of the causes of the decline in beef production . The purpose of this study was to assess the number of infected cattle nematode, the nematode types and amount of each type of nematodes in Bali cattle in Manokwari. Based onobservations on the worm eggs, total of 23 individuals (44.23 %) of Bali cattle ( puppies and adults ) infected with nematodes. Most of the infected cow is a cow that as many as 16 puppies cattle (69.56 %), while the remaining 7 animals (30.44 %) is the mother cow. Types of nematodes that infect cattle puppies and adult cattle are Cooperiasp., Bunostomum sp., Mecistocirrus sp. and Trichuris sp. The frequency of attacks in a row is as much as 13 cattle Cooperia sp, Mecistocirrus sp as many as 10 head of cattle, as many as 8 sp bunostomum cows and Trichuris sp. as much as 5 cows. The highest number of eggs in a row is Bunostomum sp. (1520), Cooperia sp. (1280), Mecistocirrus sp. ( 1200) and Trichuris sp. (280). The average number of eggs per gr feces ( EPG ) of 4 species of parasites that infect a row is Bunostomum sp . (190 EPG), Mecistocirrus sp. (120 EPG) Cooperia sp. (98.46 EPG)and Trichuris sp. (56 EPG). As many as 44.23 % of Bali cattle in three districts (Masni, Oransbari dan Prafi) attacked nematodes which are predominantly cattle aged less than one year
SEROLOGIC PREVALENCE OF TOXOPLASMOSIS IN SHEEP, GOATS CATTLE. AND PIGS FROM YOGYAKARTA
The purpose of the investigation is to find out the serologically prevalence oT toxoplasrnosis in animal husbandry primarily in sheep, goats, cattle and pigs-Serum samples were taken from 100 sheep. 50 goats, 50 cattle and 100 pigs in a Yogyakarta abattoir. The sera were examined for Toxoplasma gonddi antibody by using direct agglutination test with Toxo-Scrven DA. It was considered that titers of 1:40 or greater were positive.The obtained results showed that prevalence of antibodies to T. gondii were : Sheep 50%, goats 15&. cattle 2% and pigs 44X. The sex was no err 1.1 on the prevalence of toxoplasmosis
