    Penyakit Mulut dan Kuku (PMK) berdampak buruk pada kesejahteraan hewan, kerugian ekonomi, dan pembatasan ekspor ternak dan produk ternak. Hewan yang terinfeksi virus PMK akan menghasilkan antibodi protein non-struktural (NSP) dan protein struktural (SP). Kekebalan terhadap antibodi SP memberikan perlindungan pada hewan setelah infeksi PMK. Adanya antibodi setelah infeksi PMK merupakan indikator penting dalam pelaksanaan program vaksinasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeteksi keberadaan antibodi NSP dan SP serotipe O pada sapi perah. Dua puluh tujuh sapi perah yang terinfeksi PMK dan tidak divaksinasi di Dusun Bendosari, Desa Karangkendal, Kecamatan Musuk, Kabupaten Boyolali digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Deteksi sapi yang terinfeksi PMK menggunakan sampel usap mulut, susu dan serum satu bulan setelah infeksi PMK. Deteksi antibodi NSP dan SP serotipe O menggunakan teknik ELISA dari sampel serum. Serum dikumpulkan setiap bulan sampai enam bulan setelah infeksi PMK. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa antibodi NSP dan SP serotipe O masih terdeteksi pada sapi perah hingga enam bulan setelah infeksi PMK

    Isolation of Aspergillus sp. from The Lungs of Sparrows (Passer montanus)

    Aspergillosis is a common respiratory disease in avian species. The infection of Aspergillus sp. is characterized by the presence of yellowish plaques or nodules in the respiratory tract such as the trachea, air sac, and lungs. This study aimed to isolate Aspergillus sp. from the lungs of sparrows. The samples used in this research were the lungs of 35 sparrows taken randomly. Isolation was carried out by Thompson’s method (1969), samples were embedded in Saboraud’s Dextrose Agar (SDA) media and then incubated for 2-7 days. The growth of Aspergillus sp. colonies was observed at 24-hour intervals by looking at the color, shape, edges, and bottom surface of the colonies. Meanwhile, to ensure and confirm the species of Aspergillus sp., the fungus was planted on slide culture media. After that, microscopic observations were conducted by looking at the growth of conidiophores, hyphae, phialids, and fungal conidia. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively. The result showed that Aspergillus sp. can be isolated from 27 out 35 samples. Based on the result of this study it can be concluded that 77.14% of samples were infected by Aspergillus sp. consisting of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus

    Penerapan Sanitasi dan Higiene dalam Produksi Ikan Asap: Implikasi terhadap Keamanan Pangan dan Kesehatan Masyarakat

    Keamanan pangan merupakan aspek krusial dalam kesehatan masyarakat, terutama pada produk pangan yang diproses secara tradisional seperti ikan asap. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi penerapan sanitasi dan higiene dalam produksi ikan asap di Kota Kendari serta mengkaji dampaknya terhadap keamanan pangan dan kesehatan masyarakat. Penelitian menggunakan desain observasional deskriptif dengan pengambilan sampel secara purposive pada 13 unit produksi ikan asap selama Juli sampai Oktober 2024. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi langsung dan checklist kepatuhan terhadap standar Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kurang dari sebagian produsen (48,4%) yang memastikan peralatan produksi tetap bersih dan terawat secara menyeluruh. Seluruh produsen (100%) menggunakan air bersih selama produksi, namun tanpa fasilitas pembersihan bahan baku yang memadai. Toilet yang memenuhi standar kebersihan hanya ditemukan pada 69,2% lokasi produksi, sementara tidak ada satu pun tempat sampah tertutup (0%). Evaluasi praktik higiene pekerja, didaptkan sebanyak 76,9% pekerja mencuci tangan sebelum dan sesudah bekerja, namun tidak ada pekerja yang mamakai alat pelindung diri (0%). Selain itu, seluruh lokasi produksi tidak memiliki program pembersihan dan sanitasi berkala (0%), dan terdapat hewan peliharaan di sekitar area produksi, yang dapat meningkatkan risiko kontaminasi mikroorganisme patogen. Kondisi ini menunjukkan bahwa industri ikan asap tradisional di Kendari belum memenuhi stadar sanitasi dan higiene yang baik sehingga memerlukan intervensi berbasis kesehatan masyarakat. Diperlukan edukasi kepada produsen mengenai pentingnya sanitasi dan higiene, peningkatan infrastruktur sanitasi, serta pengawasan lebih ketat dari pihak berwenang guna memastikan kepatuhan terhadap standar keamanan pangan. Kata kunci: keamanan pangan, higiene, kesehatan masyarakat, sanitasi, ikan asa

    Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) merupakan penyakit infeksius yang dapat menginfeksi hewanFamili Felidae khususnya kucing. Virus ini mempunyai tingkat mortalitas dan morbiditas yang sangat tinggi terlebih pada kucing yang belum divaksinasi. Literatur review ini membahas tentang analisis risiko berbagai metode yang umum digunakan untuk membantu peneguhan diagnosis dan evaluasi yang dapat dilakukan pada penderita FPV. Metodeyang digunakan adalah studi literatur yaitu dengan mengumpulkan dan merangkum jurnal-jurnal dengan topik relevan yang ditelusuri dari Google Scholar, NCBI, Library Genesis, PubMed, Science Direct dan Europe PMC. Berdasarkan penelitian, didapatkan hasil diantaranya bahwa FPV akan menunjukkan gejala klinis yang beragam mulai dari subklinis, akut, hingga perakut. Vaksinasi merupakan faktor utama yang mempengaruhi infeksi FPV. Metode yang umum dilakukan untuk membantu peneguhan diagnosis antara lain imunokromatografi; hematologi dan biokimia; Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR); ELISA; dan histopatologi.     Safety Risk Factors of Duck Meat Sold in Bogor City

    With the increasing demand for duck meat in Bogor City, this poses a risk of the presence of pathogenic bacteria throughout the food supply chain. Traditional markets are one of the places that have a high risk of contamination with pathogenic bacteria that can endanger public health. This study aims to determine the presence of Salmonella and E. coli in duck meat sold in traditional markets in Bogor City and the risk factors that influence the presence of these pathogenic bacteria. This study was a cross sectional study with a total of 45 duck meat samples obtained from 3 traditional markets in Bogor City. Samples were taken to the SKHB IPB Veterinary Public Health Laboratory for microbiological testing. Risk factors that may affect the safety of duck meat were assessed using a questionnaire. The results showed that 13 samples (29%) were positive for Salmonella and 27 samples (60%) were positive for E. coli. The presence of Salmonella and E. coli in duck meat indicates cross-contamination during slaughter, evisceration and poor sanitation and hygiene practices. Continuous monitoring and reporting of the presence of Salmonella and E. coli is needed so that duck meat consumed by the public is safe for consumption

    Abstract              Feline Panleukopenia is a disease caused by a DNA type virus, family Parvoviridae with high morbidity and mortality in the Felidae family group (Kruse et al., 2010; Hartmann, 2017). The study also shows that the prevalence rate of the disease has increased for 3 years since 2015. The report of Kusumawardani et al (2015) shows that 97 cases of cats were diagnosed with FPV. The vaccination program has not been implemented optimally by the cat-keeping community. The incidence of the disease is still common and cases can increase in certain seasons. Several cases handled at the Clinic of the Department of Internal Medicine, FKH-UGM ended in death. There has been no report on the implementation of vaccination in animal health care places. It is necessary to study the vaccination program for cats carried out by the cat-keeping community as an effort to prevent Feline Panleukopenia disease so that it can provide information about FPV vaccination as a basis for optimizing the implementation of FPV vaccination in cats. The study used ambulatory card data from cat examinations as clinical patients of the Department of Internal Medicine, FKH UGM in 2019.  Recap data collected in the form of ambulances for cat patients who requested vaccination. Patient data provided with vaccination services are grouped based on cat identity, age, sex, cat breed/race and maintenance system. The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the recap of ambulatory data for cat patients in 2019 who were vaccinated against feline panleukopenia, 236 individuals were obtained. The age of vaccinated cats at the age of <6 months were 128 animals (54%) and 108 cats (46%). there were 108 cats (46%) male cats and 128 (54%) female cats vaccinated against Feline panleukopenia. Types/breeds of cats, which were vaccinated against feline panleukopenia in purebred cats (Persi, Angora and others) as many as 128 (54%), 35 domestic cats (15%) and 73 mixed-breed cats (31%) ).     In Vivo Study of Red Spinach Leaf Extract on the Excretory System of Paracetamol-induced Toxic Dose Wistar Rats

    Paracetamol is an antipyretic and analgesic drug that is relatively safe to consume orally with the appropriate dose and can be obtained without a doctor's prescription. The antioxidant quersetin contained in red spinach leaves can bind free radicals and strengthen the antioxidant defense system in the body. This study was conducted to determine the histopathological view of liver and kidney Wistar rats induced by toxic dose of Paracetamol after administration of ethanol extract of red spinach leaves. This research method used 24 Wistar rat which were divided into 4 groups. Kontrol  (aquadest), KN (Paracetamol 0.5 g/kg BW), P1 (ethanol extract of red spinach leaves 0.4 g/kg BW and Paracetamol 0.5 g/kg BW) and P2 (ethanol extract of red spinach leaves 0.8 g/kg BW and Paracetamol 0.5 g/kg BW). The administration of the extract was carried out for 15 days with Paracetamol on the last 5 days. Euthanasia was performed on the 16th day and then made preparations of liver and kidney with paraffin method (Hematoxylin eosin). Data observed included hepatosomatic index, total and area of hepatocytes, total of liver and kidney necrosis cells, area of inflammatory cells, total and area of glomeruli, and area of hemorrhage. Observation data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and DMRT further test (P<0.05). The results showed that the dose of ethanol extract of red spinach leaves 0.4 g/kg BW was able to reduce hepatocyte area, the total of necrosis cells, the area of inflammation and protect the glomerulus (P < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that ethanol extract of red spinach leaves at a dose of 0.4 g/kg BW can protect the liver and kidneys of Wistar rats induced by Paracetamol at a dose of 0.5 g/kg B

    Technological advances in developing herbal plants as medicine continue to increase in Indonesia in finding herbal ingredients as medicine because they are considered safer, more practical and cheaper by the community compared to using synthetic drugs and easy to find the desired herbal ingredients. Neem plants (Azadirachta indica A.Juss) are herbal plants that have high antioxidant content and have the potential as medicine. The obstacle in oral administration is the low bioavailability of drugs and the distribution of active compounds in herbal plants. One way to overcome this problem is by packaging herbal plant extracts into smaller particle forms. This study used 32 rats aged 2 months which were divided into 4 treatments, each treatment had 8 replications, namely K-, K+, P1 and P2. The results showed that the administration of nanoparticle-chitosan preparations of ethanol extract of neem leaves 1; 0.5 and 1; 1 had no significant effect on glomerular diameter, Bowman's capsule diameter, kidney weight, creatinine levels and MDA levels p> 0.05 it can be concluded that the administration of nanoparticle-chitosan preparations of ethanol extract of neem leaves has no significant effect on the kidneys so that it can deliver the Bioactive compounds of neem leaves to the target organ, namely the kidneys and can minimize histological damage and kidney function of male white rats with the presence of antioxidant compounds in neem leaves.Technological advances in developing herbal plants as medicine continue to increase in Indonesia in finding herbal ingredients as medicine because they are considered safer, more practical and cheaper by the community compared to using synthetic drugs and easy to find the desired herbal ingredients.     Laporan Kasus: Suspek Hidronefrosis akibat Tumor Prostat pada Anjing di Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan (RSHP) Sekolah Kedokteran Hewan dan Biomedis (SKHB) IPB University

    Seekor anjing jantan ras domestik berumur 16 tahun dibawa ke Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan (RSHP), Sekolah Kedokteran Hewan dan Biomedis (SKHB), IPB University. Pasien datang dengan keluhan tidak mau makan hingga dua hari, berdiri dan jalan tidak stabil, muntah, nistagmus, dan sempat jatuh terguling. Pemeriksaan fisik palpasi abdomen menunjukkan adanya pembesaran serta nyeri pada kelenjar prostat. Setelah dilakukan pemeriksaan penunjang hematologi, anjing menunjukkan penurunan jumlah eritrosit, hemoglobin, hematokrit, trombosit, dan PCT. Hasil pemeriksaan kimia darah menunjukkan penurunan kadar SGOT serta peningkatan kadar BUN dan kreatinin. Hasil pemeriksaan USG menunjukkan adanya formasi kristal pada pyelum ginjal kiri, perubahan batas antara korteks dengan medula dan atrofi ginjal kanan, peningkatan ketebalan vesika urinaria, serta perubahan ekogenitas parenkim dan ukuran prostat. Hasil pemeriksaan radiografi menunjukkan adanya pembesaran pada prostat dan preputium. Hasil pemeriksaan urinalisis menunjukkan peningkatan UPC serta adanya protein, darah, kreatinin, dan leukosit. Kasus ini memiliki diagnosa banding yaitu hidronefrosis, tumor prostat, prostatitis, dan neuron injury dengan prognosis infausta. Penanganan pada kasus ini dilakukan dengan pemberian terapi berupa infus asering, suplemen, bronkodilatator, diuretik, serta antiemetik. 

    Pengaruh Hidrogen Peroksida (H2O2) dan Waktu Pengangkutan terhadap Respon Fisiologis Ikan Koi (Cyprinus carpio L.)

    Ikan koi (Cyprinus carpio L.) merupakan salah satu komoditas ikan hias air tawar introduksi, yang sampai saat ini masih menjadi primadona di pasar internasional dan termasuk jenis ikan hias yang bernilai jual tinggi dengan harga yang relatif stabil.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh pemberian hidrogen peroksida dan waktu pengangkutan terhadap respon fisiologis ikan koi serta interaksi antara hidrogen peroksida dan waktu pengangkutan. Metode yang digunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap Faktorial dua faktor dan tiga kali ulangan. Ikan koi (panjang 10,70+0,97 cm dan berat 14,45+0,21 gram, n = 540 ekor) digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Faktor pertama (A) yaitu konsentrasi H2O2 sebanyak enam taraf (A1) 0,15 ml/l, (A2) 0,35 ml/l, (A3) 0,55 ml/l, (A4) 0,75 ml/l, (A5) 0,95 ml/l, dan (A6) kontrol.  Sedangkan faktor kedua (B) waktu pengangkutan sebanyak tiga taraf yaitu (B1) 10 jam, (B2) 15 jam, (B3) 20 jam. Parameter yang diukur adalah sintasan, kadar kortisol, glukosa, histologi hati, penilaian pasca pengangkutan, dan kualitas air.  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa interaksi konsentrasi hidrogen peroksida dan waktu pengangkutan berpengaruh nyata terhadap sintasan, kortisol, dan glukosa.  Berdasarkan hasil pengujian, perlakuan terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan A1B1 dengan konsentrasi hidrogen peroksida sebesar 0,15 ml/l dan waktu pengangkutan 10 jam, yang menghasilkan sintasan sebesar 100 %, kadar kortisol sebesar 0,45 ng/ml, dan kadar glukosa sebesar 56,80 mg/dL, tidak terdapat kerusakan pada jaringan
