Provision in Muslim Families: Dogma, Role Shifts, and Realities in Bali and Banten

This study aims to analyse the dogmas received by wives in Bali and Banten regarding their obligation to provide for their families. It also explores the shifting roles in the fulfilment of these obligations. Employing a qualitative research method with an empirical juridical approach, also known as a sociological approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, document analysis, and literature reviews. The data collected were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings reveal differences in the dogmas received by wives in Bali and Banten. Women in Bali perceive the responsibility of earning a living as a shared duty between husbands and wives. In contrast, women in Banten view it as an absolute obligation of the husband; if the wife works, her role is merely to support the husband in meeting the family’s needs. The role shift in providing for the family occurs due to various factors, including economic needs, the wife’s skills being more relevant, the husband’s illness, prolonged absence without notice, death, and old age. Women in both Bali and Banten often assume the role of breadwinners for several reasons, such as the higher availability of job opportunities for women, economic challenges, higher educational attainment of wives, greater demand for women in the labor market, pre-marriage employment contracts, and inherited customs. This study offers insights into the interplay between traditional dogmas, economic realities, and shifting gender roles in Muslim families, contributing to discussions of gender dynamics and economic adaptation in IndonesiaThis study aims to analyze the dogmas received by wives in Bali and Banten regarding the obligation of providing for the family. Optimizing Knowledge Management Practices for Intellectual Capital Development at Universitas Islam Nusantara

This study aims to evaluate knowledge management practices in an Islam-based higher education environment, focusing on the utilisation of intellectual capital at Universitas Islam Nusantara Bandung. In the context of the digital era and global competition, higher education institutions’ ability to manage knowledge effectively is a key factor in improving academic quality and institutional competitiveness. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, and data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and institutional documentation. The results showed that knowledge management practices at Uninus covered the processes of knowledge identification, creation, dissemination, and implementation, although the implementation is still partial and conventional. The strategies implemented include the documentation of explicit knowledge and the capacity building of human resources in managing tacit knowledge. The conversion of tacit knowledge into explicit form is done through scientific forums and expertise-based assignments, but is not yet fully structured. Evaluation of the supporting tools indicates that some elements, such as document management, digital portals, expertise taxonomy, and ICT infrastructure, are available but not yet optimally integrated. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of knowledge management is highly dependent on the synergy between institutional strategy, technological readiness and organizational culture. Thus, this study suggests the importance of a holistic approach and strengthening institutional policies to maximise the potential of knowledge management in developing intellectual capital in Islamic higher education

Integrative-Islamic Learning Model for Hadith Education through Wawacan Panganten Tujuh

This research is motivated by the importance of developing a hadith learning model that is relevant to the local cultural context, especially in Indonesia, which is rich in cultural diversity. Wawacan Panganten Tujuh as an Islamic-based literary manuscript from Sundanese culture was chosen as a potential teaching material to enrich the hadith learning method. The integrative-Islamic pedagogy approach is used to integrate cultural values and Islamic teachings in the learning process, which is expected to increase students' understanding of hadith as well as strengthen their appreciation of local culture. The results of the study show that the learning model developed is not only effective in improving the understanding of hadith, but also provides a meaningful learning experience through the active involvement of students in their cultural context. This model combines the exploration of Sundanese culture with the teachings of hadith, allowing students to understand Islamic teachings in a more in-depth and contextual way. Unlike previous studies that only emphasized cultural aspects or content analysis, this study presents a holistic approach that integrates both aspects in a single learning model. The conclusion of this study confirms that the hadith learning model based on Wawacan Panganten Tujuh through an integrative-Islamic pedagogy approach is able to answer the needs of contextual Islamic education in Indonesia. The contribution of this research expands the scope of cultural-based Islamic education literature, although its implementation is still limited to certain areas. Further research is expected to develop similar models for other cultures and analyze the impact of their application more broadly in Islamic educatio

Acculturation of Religious Rituals for Chinese Muslim Minorities in West Sumatra

This study aims to explore the acculturation and assimilation processes that ethnic Chinese in West Sumatra undergo upon converting to Islam, that the conversion does not lead to an outright abandonment of traditions. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive analysis approach, this research underscores how religious conversion fundamentally alters an individual's worldview and behavior. Converts to Islam are encouraged to earnestly learn and adhere to Sharia and Islamic teachings, initiating their spiritual journey with religious observances and distancing themselves from practices associated with their former beliefs. However, the conversion process is significantly influenced by one's environment, which plays a pivotal role in shaping the assimilation and acculturation experience of ethnic Chinese Muslims. This environment encompasses both familial and social contexts. The family environment, where individuals are connected by kinship—whether as children, spouses, or other familial roles—is marked by intensive interaction and communication. Yet, this close-knit communication does not necessarily guarantee a seamless conversion to another faith. Beyond the family, the surrounding social environment, including the workplace, extended family, and broader societal interactions, also impacts the conversion journey. Within these spheres, various factors either facilitate or hinder the process of embracing Islam for ethnic Chinese individuals. This study delves into these dynamics, examining the multifaceted influences on religious conversion and the subsequent negotiation between maintaining cultural heritage and adopting new religious identities. Through this analysis, the research seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between religion, culture, and identity among ethnic Chinese Muslims in West Sumatr

Digital Strategies for Promoting Religious Moderation: The Role of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama on Social Media

Indonesia is unique because of its pluralistic and diverse character. This uniqueness can certainly produce conflict between communities if not managed well. One cause of this is radicalism and intolerance. Moreover, there has been an increase in the number of digital media users in Indonesia, which has the potential to become an arena for contesting various ideologies, including extreme ones. Therefore, a country with religious and cultural diversity requires a religious moderation approach to overcome radicalism and intolerance. This study aims to provide an overview of the role of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama in promoting religious moderation on social media. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with descriptive analysis that uses secondary data from various scientific literature sources such as journals, books, official reports, and social media content. Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama were chosen because they are the most prominent Islamic organisations in Indonesia and significantly influence religious life. Content analysis was used in this study. This research shows that religious organisations such as Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama play an important role in efforts to ground the religious moderation movement in Indonesia, especially in the context of digital media. Islam Berkemajuan and Islam Nusantara are views initiated by these two organizations to foster religious moderation in society. These two organisations use digital platforms to spread religious messages that emphasise tolerance, harmony, and respect for diversity. The implication of this research is that the presence of Muhammadiyah and NU on social media is strategic in shaping public opinion and expanding the understanding of religion. By using digital media, these two organisations are disseminators of moderate religious teachings and agents of social change that can reduce extremis

The Qur'an and Hadith as a Rule of Law Change: Fatwa Studies of Islamic Organizations in West Java

This study examines how Islamic organizations in West Java use the Qur'an and Hadith as foundations for legal rulings (fatwas) in response to modern challenges. Focusing on Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), and Persatuan Islam (Persis), the research highlights how ijtihad (Islamic legal reasoning) adapts to social and technological changes. Comparative analysis reveals distinct methodological approaches: Muhammadiyah employs rational-textual methods (bayani, qiyasi, istishlahi), NU combines traditionalism with contextual flexibility, while Persis strictly follows scriptural sources. These differences produce varying fatwas - for example, Muhammadiyah declares smoking haram (forbidden) due to health risks, whereas NU and Persis consider it makruh (discouraged) due to weaker scriptural evidence. These variations stem from differing interpretations of texts, social considerations, and methodological priorities. The findings demonstrate Islamic law's ability to address contemporary issues while maintaining core principles. The study suggests that fatwa differences reflect each organization's intellectual tradition and social context rather than fundamental disagreements about Islamic law. Future research could explore: (1) regional variations in fatwa formulation across Indonesia, (2) interdisciplinary studies combining Islamic jurisprudence with social sciences, and (3) the impact of digital technology on ijtihad processes. Such studies would deepen understanding of how Islamic legal traditions interact with modernity in diverse Muslim communities

Islamic Studies Update: Examining the Sharia Court in Aceh in the Perspective of Legislation in Indonesia

The integration of Islamic law into Indonesia's national legal system continues to provoke significant constitutional and institutional discourse, particularly in the case of Aceh's Sharia Court (Mahkamah Syariah). Established under the special autonomy granted by Article 18 B of the 1945 Constitution, the court implemented Qanun Jinayat, an Islamic criminal code that operates within the national legal framework. This unique judicial structure highlights Indonesia's commitment to legal pluralism, while simultaneously exposing tensions between Islamic norms, human rights principles, and national legislative coherence. This study examined the legal status, institutional authority, and normative functions of the Syaria Court through the lens of constitutional law and legal pluralism. It adopts a normative legal research methodology that combines deductive reasoning, historical analysis, and case studies, and is supported by statutory documents, judicial rulings, and relevant literature. By framing the court as a hybrid institution shaped by regional autonomy and national oversight, this article offers a conceptual model of functional recognition, rather than hierarchical subordination. The findings reveal that Mahkamah Syaria exercises jurisdiction over both civil and criminal matters based on Islamic law. However, challenges remain in harmonising procedural standards, ensuring legal certainty, and accommodating plural citizenship, particularly in cases involving non-Muslim minorities. Despite these tensions, courts play a growing role in mediating religious legal traditions and constitutional imperatives. This article contributes to the broader academic discourse on judicial hybridity in decentralised states. It provides a new perspective on the adaptive function of religious courts within democratic legal systems, and proposes pathways for strengthening integration without eroding institutional pluralism

Rationality and Religiosity of Islamic Economy in Facing Global Challenges

Islamic economics actually still has the opportunity to develop and become an alternative in facing global challenges. However, the development of Islamic economics requires a strong theoretical foundation. The purpose of this study is to show the importance of epistemological research in the field of Islamic economics. There are two approaches that can be used in analyzing Islamic economics, namely descriptive and thematic. Both are interrelated in the process of strengthening the study of Islamic economics. Therefore, based on the epistemological approach, there are two types of Islamic economic studies that are normatively based on rationality and religiosity, and both cannot be separated from the moral basis of Islam. This research method uses the literature survey method by utilizing library resources in obtaining data, to prepare a theoretical framework and also to strengthen the methodology. Then the validity of the Islamic economic methodology can be tested based on the consistency of the internal system and its compatibility with various systems that govern the dimensions of human life. By supporting Islamic economics as a normative science, a combination of rationality and religiosity will continue and be sustained, as this will develop an economic flow that is more rooted in global ethics in the future
