The Relevance of Catholic Theological Inspiration on Ecumenical Dialogue for Religious Moderation in Indonesia

Ecumenical dialogue is part of the post-Vatican Council II Catholic theological practice that emphasizes the importance of openness to other traditions and a shared search for truth. In the Indonesian context, which is characterized by religious diversity and the challenges of intolerance and fundamentalism, Catholic theological reflection can make an important contribution to strengthening religious moderation. This study aims to identify and correlate Catholic theological ideas on ecumenical dialogue that can be the basis for developing a relevant and contextual interfaith dialogue methodology. Using a content analysis approach and correlation of theological ideas based on an integrative literature review, this study examines Church documents, the views of Catholic theologians Yves Congar, Walter Kasper, and John Paul II, and research results that discuss interreligious moderation. The results of the study indicate that receptive ecumenism, mutual spiritual enrichment, inner reform, shared witness, and learning through dialogue can be the foundation of a methodological framework for dialogue in religious moderation without losing the integrity of each faith. The practice of interfaith dialogue in Indonesia can be enriched with a transformative approach that emphasizes reciprocal learning, shared reflection of faith, and acceptance of diversity. The contribution of this research is primarily a fresh perspective and methodology in the contextual theological study of dialogue, emphasizing that Catholic theological inspirations can be used as material for compiling a program framework to advance religious moderation

Tawḥīdī Epistemology: Uniting Rationality, Empiricism, and Transcendence within the Framework of Islamic Science

This article proposes an integrative epistemology model based on tawḥīd (Tawḥīdī Epistemology) that synthesizes three main frameworks: Burhān al-Ṣiddīqīn (Ibn Sina's ontological argument about Wājib al-Wujūd); the Scientific Method (logico-hypothetico-verification), and the Revelation Guides Science paradigm from UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Through philosophical analysis and multidisciplinary case studies, this research demonstrates that this integration not only overcomes the science-religion dichotomy but also offers a structured methodology for dual validation (empirical and normative). This article enriches the discourse of contemporary Islamic philosophy by actualizing Ibn Sina's legacy in the context of modern science, while also addressing postmodern critiques of the objectivity of science

The codification of Islamic law (taqnīn) is crucial in providing legal certainty in marriage and divorce in Indonesia while maintaining the relevance of sharī’ah values amidst social changes. This study aims to examine the implementation of Law No. 1 of 1974 on Marriage and the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) in the context of madhhab pluralism. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with normative and empirical analysis approaches. The findings reveal that the codification of Islamic law faces challenges in accommodating diverse fiqh perspectives, ensuring gender justice, and addressing the administrative needs of society. The maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah approach is an essential foundation for an inclusive transformation of Islamic law, particularly in aligning classical fiqh values with modern legal norms. This study recommends harmonizing Islamic law principles with the national legal system to create just, relevant, and beneficial regulations for Indonesian societ

Environmental issues have become an integral part of Muslim life. When Islam looks at ecological issues, environmental ideas emerge based on a form of constructive theology with a focus on the relationship between humans, nature and God. Religious doctrine has shown great concern for the environment. Humans, in their relationship with God, also relate to nature as fellow creatures of God. In dealing with God, humans need nature as a means to know and understand God. Pesantren as an Islamic educational institution cannot be separated from environmental issues. Based on the researcher's observation, it was found that in the pesantren environment there was still a lack of awareness in managing the environment. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method with a religious phenomenology approach in analysing the awareness of environmental theology in Al-Faaruuq salafi pesantren and Bahrul Hidayah Cicalengka pesantren. The stages in this research are; orientation, exploration, and member check. The data sources taken are purposive sampling, namely figures who are considered important such as kiai/ustaz, santri, environmental activists, and the surrounding community. While the data collection process is done through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation. The findings in the first study, humans as God's representatives (khalifah), therefore humans must preserve nature. Because nature is His entrustment. Second, God must be used as the centre of the cosmos. In this case, it is the centre of teaching (tawhid), all human actions must go to God. Third, in Pesantren Al-Faaruuq and Pesantren Bahrul Hidayah, preserving the environment is obligatory, because it aims for the safety, welfare and sustainability of humans, even for the implementation of prayer rituals requires water to wash (wudu) and put nature as a theophan

    No full text
The hijrah phenomenon has become part of the religious dynamics of contemporary society, especially among urban youth. The hijrah Youth Movement, known for its popular approach to preaching, combines religious values with popular culture and utilizes digital technology as a medium for preaching. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of hijrah as a social construction using Berger's theory, which includes externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with a sociological approach and phenomenological analysis. The results showed that the hijrah movement developed as a response to social change and modernity and became a new religious identity for the millennial Muslim generation.  hijrah is not only understood as an individual spiritual transformation, but also as a collective social phenomenon that forms new patterns in religious practice. In addition, social media plays an important role in the spread of this movement, creating increasingly massive digital activism. However, the massiveness of the hijrah movement in cyberspace raises challenges to the deep understanding of the history and essence of the hijrah itself. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate the study of hijrah history into religious education to avoid distortion of meaning. Further research is needed to review the impact of this movement from a futurological perspective, especially in the face of an era of artificial intelligence that could affect future religious trends.

Implementation of Terrorism Prevention Policy: A Case Study of FKPT of West Java Province and Its Impact on Intolerance Levels

This research endeavors to comprehensively investigate three pivotal dimensions pertaining to the governmental policy implementation aimed at mitigating terrorism in the province of West Java. The methodology adopted for this research employs a mixed-methods approach that amalgamates a thorough literature review with rigorous field research, underpinned by an analytical descriptive framework. Furthermore, this study employs a multifaceted analytical lens, drawing from political, theological, and anthropological perspectives to comprehensively analyze and interpret the collected data. The research findings underscore a pervasive atmosphere of intolerance in West Java, accompanied by a heightened susceptibility to radical ideologies, extremist actions, and terrorism-related radicalism. These findings shed light on the intricate cultural nuances that shape the identity of West Java residents. The empirical investigation conducted across six distinct regencies and cities (namely, Sukabumi Regency, Sukabumi City, Cianjur Regency, Kuningan Regency, Indramayu Regency, and Cirebon City) within West Java, which serve as the focal points of this research, consistently reveal a glaring absence of specialized counterterrorism policies within the region. In essence, this lacuna underscores a notable deficit in the implementation of counterterrorism strategies. Instead, the predominant policy landscape in each of the aforementioned regencies and cities is characterized by a convergence with the overarching principles of the Homeland Defense and National Insight programs. These programs, conceived as flagship initiatives under the purview of the provincial Kesbangpol (National Unity and Political Affairs Agency), are similarly embedded within the Kesbangpol structures at the regional level. Consequently, within the context of this research, the Homeland Defense and National Insight policies emerge as policy instruments that are categorically associated with counterterrorism efforts in West Java
