A Sinergi Nalar Religius dan Nalar Modern
This study examines the relevance of Muhammad Abed Al-Jabiri's epistemology to the dynamics of santri education in modern Islamic boarding schools that integrate religious and general education. Al-Jabiri developed an epistemology with three forms of reasoning: bayani, irfani, and burhani, each of which reflects a different approach to acquiring knowledge. Bayani reasoning emphasizes revealed texts as the main source of knowledge, while irfani reasoning emphasizes intuition and spiritual experience, and burhani reasoning focuses on rationality and empiricism. This article also discusses how Al-Jabiri's thinking plays a role in reconstructing santri education to be more adaptive to the challenges of modernity, by balancing religious values and scientific rationality. In the application of Al-Jabiri's epistemology, especially burhani reasoning, knowledge is obtained through systematic deduction, induction, and empirical observation. However, in the context of the development of modern science, this model is considered limited, so M. Amin Abdullah proposed the addition of the concept of abduction, a more dynamic and flexible hypothetical inference method. Abduction allows knowledge to develop through further testing of hypotheses, which opens up space for creative reasoning in dealing with complex phenomena.
Empowering sharia-based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia: A Socioeconomic and ethical framework for inclusive development
Sharia-based Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) represent a critical driver of economic development in Indonesia, contributing significantly to employment, poverty alleviation, and local entrepreneurship. In a country with the world’s largest Muslim population, the integration of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah principles into MSME governance offers a unique pathway toward ethical and inclusive economic growth. This study investigates the institutional, financial, and socio-religious dynamics that shape the performance and sustainability of Sharia-compliant MSMEs. It explores how Islamic economic principles intersect with regulatory frameworks and market practices to influence business outcomes in this sector. The objective is to formulate a conceptual and practical model for strengthening Sharia-based MSMEs in Indonesia. Adopting a qualitative approach, this research utilizes document analysis from regulatory texts, journal articles, and Islamic economic theory. Findings reveal critical challenges in legal harmonization, limited access to Sharia-compliant financing, and inconsistent application of ‘adl (justice), amanah (trust), and raḥmah (compassion) in entrepreneurial practices. However, notable opportunities exist in the areas of community-based empowerment, halal certification, and fintech adoption aligned with Islamic values. This study contributes to both policy and academic discourses by offering an integrative perspective on Sharia-based MSMEs. It highlights the importance of strengthening tawhidic foundations in economic structures and provides a roadmap for policymakers, practitioners, and scholars committed to building an inclusive and just economic system rooted in Islamic ethics
Local Wisdom in the Creative Economy of the Baduy Community
Local wisdom is cultural values and traditions that are passed down from generation to generation, playing an important role in supporting the sustainability of the creative economy in the Baduy community. This study aims to examine how the local wisdom of the Baduy community is integrated into their creative economy practices, which include handicrafts, traditional weaving, and honey products. A qualitative approach was used in this study, with data collection through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results of the study indicate that the local wisdom of the Baduy community, such as the principle of living in harmony with nature and strict customary rules, is the main foundation in the production and marketing of their creative products. In addition, these values also encourage environmental sustainability and maintain their cultural identity amidst the influence of modernization. This study concludes that the integration of local wisdom into the creative economy not only provides added value to the product, but also strengthens the social, cultural, and economic sustainability of the Baduy community

This research aims to explore the application of the Tablighi Jamaah’s da’wah in increasing the spirituality of Muslims in Baja Dolok Village, Sipispis District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research explores in depth social and religious phenomena related to preaching patterns and their influence on people’s spiritual lives. A sociology of religion approach is used to analyze the factors that influence the effectiveness of the Tablighi Jamaah’s da’wah in this region. Research data was collected through observation techniques and in-depth interviews with members of the Tablighi Jamaah, religious leaders and the local community. The research results show that the Tablighi Jamaah applies a unique da’wah approach, namely through the method of home visits (khuruj), religious discussions, and direct interactions in daily life. This approach has succeeded in increasing public awareness of the importance of practicing worship consistently and building a closer relationship with Allah. Apart from that, the Tablighi Jamaah’s preaching emphasizes real examples and the simplicity of living in accordance with Islamic teachings. The positive impact of this method can be seen in significant changes in the mindset and behavior of people who are more religious. However, this research also found challenges in implementing the Tablighi Jamaah’s da’wah, including negative assumptions from some communities, weak internal support in amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, as well as economic and geographical obstacles that influence the success of da’wah. However, the Tablighi Jamaah’s personal approach and consistency in preaching succeeded in overcoming most of these obstacles

Western values of sexual consent in Muhammad Shahrur’s theory of milk al-yamin
This paper discusses Muhammad Shahrur’s proposal for a “new way” to practice the concept of milk al-yamin in Islam. He believes that the Qur’anic verses pertaining to milk al-yamin can no longer be applied today because of their close connection to slavery. Shahrur argues that the practice of milk al-yamin—particularly in the context of the permissibility of engaging in sexual relations without a marriage contract—can be carried out through mutual consent. This consent is formed through an agreement between a man and a woman, solely for the purpose of engaging in sexual relations. The aim of this paper is to analyze Shahrur’s arguments within the framework of his milk al-yamin theory. The method used in this paper is a normative literature study, employing a juridical-normative approach. The findings of this paper indicate that Shahrur’s theory of milk al-yamin tends to align more closely with Western values of sexual consent than with Islamic values. Moreover, Shahrur’s proposal for milk al-yamin could have significant implications for the development of family law, particularly in Indonesia
The Correlation of I'jaz Bayani with Scientific Signals in the Story of Maryam: A Study of the Miracles of Language and Science in the Qur'an
This research aims to study the correlation between i’jaz bayani and scientific hints in the story of Maryam in the Qur’an. Using a language and science approach, this research analyzes the choice of diction, sentence structure, and word use in Surah Maryam, which shows the miracle of the language of the Qur'an. The main focus of this study is the use of the word "rutab" (wet dates), which is scientifically proven to have great benefits for pregnant and giving-birth women. This finding shows that the meaning contained in this choice of words is not only linguistically beautiful but also in accordance with modern medical facts. This shows that there is a close relationship between i’jaz bayani and scientific signals in the Al-Qur'an, as well as being a protest against orientalist accusations that doubt the miracles of the stories in the Al-Qur'an
Analysis of the Application of the Principle of Proportionality Article 31 of Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage in the Division of Rights and Obligations of Husband and Wife
The principle of proportionality is a fundamental principle in law which emphasizes the balance between rights and obligations, and is relevant to apply in the context of husband and wife relationships. The provisions of Article 31 of Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage still base the division of roles between husband and wife on a traditional structure, which in practice is often not in harmony with contemporary social dynamics. This study uses a normative juridical approach and is analyzed qualitatively through a literature study and review of a number of Religious Court decisions. The results of the analysis show that an imbalance in the implementation of roles between husband and wife is the dominant factor in divorce cases. Although the principle of proportionality has not been explicitly accommodated in positive legal norms, its application is starting to appear in the legal considerations of several judges as a form of substantive justice. Therefore, mainstreaming the principle of proportionality in the formation of national law and family justice practices is an urgent need to realize justice, equal roles and family resilience in Islamic society in Indonesia
Interpretation of Gender Verses According to Imam Al-Tabarī and Asma Barlas: A Comparative Study
This study discusses the differences in interpretation of gender verses in Islam based on the interpretation of Jāmi’ al-Bayān by Imam al-Ṭabarī and Believing Women in Islam by Asma Barlas. The main focus of this study is the analysis of Qs. An-Nisā’ [4]: 1 on the creation of women, Qs. An-Nisā’ [4]: 3 on polygamy, and Qs. An-Nisā’ [4]: 34 on male leadership and nusyuz. This study uses the muqāran (comparative) interpretation method and Hans-Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutic theory to understand the differences in their perspectives in interpreting gender verses. The results of the study show that al-Ṭabarī uses the bi al-ma’tsur interpretation approach based on history and traditional understanding, so that his interpretation tends to be textual and maintains patriarchal norms in gender relations. In contrast, Asma Barlas criticized the approach by using critical hermeneutics to interpret the Qur'an as a book that upholds gender equality and rejects interpretations that support the patriarchal system. Analysis using Gadamer's Fusion of Horizons theory shows that these differences in interpretation are influenced by historical, social, and epistemological factors. Al-Ṭabarī lived in a society that still had a strong patriarchal system, while Asma Barlas interpreted gender verses in a modern academic context with the influence of feminism and critical studies of religious texts. This study concludes that gender interpretation in Islam should not only adhere to a textual approach but also consider social, cultural, and historical aspects to be more relevant to the values of justice and equality in Islam. This study is expected to contribute to the development of gender interpretation studies in Islam and provide new insights into a more inclusive approach to interpreting the Qur'an
