Intervjuerna analyserades sedan tematiskt.
utomhusundervisning. In the Western world, interest in science and science literacy has declined within the
educational context. Outdoor education may be an effective method for reversing this trend.
Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore how outdoor education is conducted by teachers
and why this form of teaching is not more commonly practiced. The research questions
examine what outdoor education entails, what motivates teachers to use it, and what
challenges exist when lower secondary biology teachers engage in outdoor teaching. The
method used to address the research questions was qualitative interviews with biology
teachers at the lower secondary level, which were then analyzed thematically. The results
show that careful planning was central for the teachers, and that methods such as species
identification, biodiversity surveys, forest bathing, and water sampling were commonly used.
The teachers’ motivations included fostering students’ appreciation for nature, enhancing
learning through real-world connections, and providing engaging experiences that become
lasting memories. Many of the identified challenges were logistical, such as limited funding,
lack of support from school leadership, and scheduling conflicts. However, the teachers’ need
for control, such as concerns about trusting their student groups, was also seen as a barrier to
conducting outdoor education. The conclusion drawn is that although outdoor education is
being practiced, it remains limited, likely due to the number of challenges teachers face in
implementing it
Unpacking Quality Deficiency Costs: A Framework for Mapping and Managing Quality Deficiency Costs at Company X, a large Swedish transportation company
This thesis explores the internal structure and propagation of Quality Deficiency Costs
(QDCs) within Company X, Sweden’s national train operator. While several cost
components—such as quality deficiency fees, EVF compensation, and replacement
traffic—are well documented and easily quantified, others like productivity loss, staff strain,
and brand reputation are harder to measure but integral to the broader cost landscape. Despite
their significance, the internal interconnections, escalation dynamics, and organizational
distribution of these QDCs remain poorly understood. Without a clear picture of how
quality-related costs emerge, propagate, and interact across functions, Company X struggles
to distinguish between unavoidable losses and inefficiencies that could be proactively
addressed.
To address this discrepancy, the study develops and applies a two-layered analytical
framework. The first layer of the analysis categorizes and quantifies the Quality Deficiency
Costs (QDCs) within Company X operations between the years of 2019 and 2024. The
second layer offers supplementary, illustrative context for selected cost propagation patterns
within the organization, supported by continuous meetings and a limited set of interviews.
The framework integrates ripple effect theory, systems thinking, cost of quality models, and
root cause analysis to trace how costs move and accumulate internally. By revealing
quantitative cost patterns and propagation dynamics, complemented by perspectives from
Company X stakeholders and employees, the study offers scope for prioritizing and
improving QDC governance
IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN HUNGARY: TEACHERS’ SELF-REPORTED PROFESSIONAL ACTION COMPETENCE
Aim:
The purpose of the study is to explore the factors that shape and influence
teachers’ self-perceived professional action competence in implementing
education for sustainable development in the context of physical education in
Hungary. It is aimed to particularly focus on how this may be related to
teachers’ demographic background, as well as self-reported sustainability
consciousness and self-reported integration of sustainability perspectives into
their teaching practice.
Theory:
This study is guided by the Professional Action Competence framework, which
integrates action – understood as intentional, change-oriented behaviour – with
the competence needed to enact it in professional contexts. The study adopts a
framework conceptualised through three key dimensions: self-efficacy,
perceived pedagogical content knowledge, and willingness (Sass et al., 2022).
The theory provides an analytical lens for examining how teachers’ capabilities
and motivation to implement education for sustainable development is shaped.
Method:
This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional survey design to examine
teachers’ self-reported sustainability consciousness, self-perceived professional
action competence and their self-assessment of the alignment of their physical
education lessons with sustainable development themes. Data were collected
via an online questionnaire comprising the Physical Education for Sustainable
Development, the short version of the Sustainability Consciousness, and the
Professional Action Competence in Education for Sustainable Development
questionnaires.
Results:
The results indicate that self-reported Sustainability Behaviours might
collectively shape all dimensions of one’s self-perceived professional action
competence in ESD in physical education. This suggests that teachers’ personal
or professional experiences may develop stronger beliefs in their capabilities to
integrate sustainability in their PE lessons. Furthermore, the strong association
between self-efficacy and perceived pedagogical content knowledge suggests
that a teacher who feels more confident in their ability to implement ESD in
physical education is more likely to also perceive themselves as more capable
to do so. The results also support previous findings that self-efficacy,
pedagogical knowledge, and willingness are interdependent. Regarding
demographic factors, the smallest differences in professional action competence
scores can be observed between gender groups. the most substantial variation
in professional action competence scores can be found across different institute
types and settlement types
The Key Opportunities and Barriers to AI Adoption in Sustainable Supply Chain Management
As sustainability becomes a strategic imperative in global supply chains, artificial intelligence
(AI) is increasingly viewed as a tool that can support not only efficiency but also environmental
and social objectives. Yet, the extent to which AI directly contributes to sustainable supply
chain management (SSCM) remains underexplored. This thesis investigates the key
opportunities and barriers to AI adoption in SSCM, focusing on Swedish industries including
automotive, chemicals, electronics, logistics, and consumer goods. Guided by the supply chain
operations reference (SCOR) model and the technology–organization–environment–human
(TOEH) framework, the study adopts a qualitative abductive approach based on 16 semi structured interviews with professionals across different supply chain functions. The findings
show that AI offers clear benefits for forecasting, sourcing, production, delivery, and return
processes—particularly through waste reduction, emissions control, and improved efficiency.
However, most companies prioritize economic gains, while environmental and especially
social dimensions of sustainability receive less attention. The study also highlights persistent
challenges such as poor data quality, limited organizational readiness, regulatory uncertainty,
and human resistance. This research contributes to a more holistic understanding of AI in
SSCM and provides practical insights for firms aiming to integrate sustainability more
meaningfully into supply chain operations
From Donation to Dilemma: How Institutional Logics Shape Strategic Responses to Textile Overflow
MSc in ManagementSecond-hand actors play a key role in reducing textile waste by facilitating reuse. However,
they increasingly face a strategic dilemma: incoming donations exceed local demand,
creating overflow. This study examines how second-hand organizations respond to textile
overflow in light of the EU’s new mandatory textile collection law, and how their strategies
are shaped by institutional logics. Based on interviews and field observations in Gothenburg,
Sweden, the thesis analyzes how different logic constellations influence how organizations
define quality, justify export, and balance moral and operational demands. Strategies include
improving donation quality, expanding markets, and engaging with donors and policymakers.
The findings show that overflow is not merely a logistical challenge, but a deeply
institutional one, interpreted through competing values and norms. This thesis contributes to
institutional logics research by demonstrating how organizations handle material surplus
through selective adaptation, discretion, and negotiation under institutional complexity
A Case Study: How Non-Synergistic Acquisitions Affects Management Structure and Financial Performance
This study investigates the changes in management structure and financial outcomes following non-synergistic acquisition strategies through an analysis of two industrial groups, Lifco and Argynnis. By conducting interviews and examining key performance metrics, such as EBIT, the analysis explores the impact of the strategies growth and value creation post-acquisition. The findings suggest that non-synergistic acquisitions can produce short-term gains and promote long-term benefits when implemented with minimal managerial interference and strategic capital deployment. Lifco’s model demonstrates how financial performance can improve through consistent acquisition activity, while Argynnis’ more hands-on governance approach offers a contrasting yet complementary perspective. However, results of the study highlights high volatility levels regarding post-acquisition performance, raising concerns of overconfidence bias and diminishing returns. The study finds partial support for hypotheses regarding managerial continuity and post-acquisition financial advancements, emphasizing the significance of dynamic capabilities and managerial adaptability. This research contributes to the M&A literature by integrating financial analysis with organizational and behavioral perspectives, offering new insights into the long-term viability of decentralized acquisition strategies. Moreover, it contributes to a deeper understanding of acquisition models by suggesting that success largely depends on the acquirer’s governance model, financial capacity, and ability to prolong strategic flexibility
Healthcare-associated catheter-related urinary tract infections in hospitals A database-based study
Background:
Indwelling urinary catheters (IUCs) increase the risk of healthcare-associated urinary tract infections. Healthcare-associated catheter-related urinary tract infections usually cause additional complications and discomfort for patients, highlighting the need for careful and appropriate use of IUCs and monitoring of the use and related urinary tract infections.
Research question:
What was the prevalence of healthcare-associated urinary tract infections among patients > 50 years of age and with IUCs at Aarhus University Hospital in 2024? Which factors increase the risk of developing catheter-related urinary tract infections and which risk factors can be targeted for interventions?
Methods:
A data-driven cohort study was conducted comprising patients aged over 50 years with an IUC at Aarhus University Hospital in 2024. Patient data were extracted from the electronic patient record system and data on health care-associated urinary tract infections were obtained from the Danish national HAIBA database. The variables analyzed in relation to catheter-related urinary tract infections included sex, age, BMI, and catheter dwell time.
Results:
The cohort comprised 8305 patients over 50 years of age, all with an IUC. In total, 243 patients (2.9%) developed a catheter-related healthcare-associated urinary tract infection. A significantly higher incidence was detected among females compared to males and among patients over 70 years of age. Catheter dwell time was significantly longer in the group that developed catheter-related urinary tract infections compared to those who did not. BMI >30 did not increase the risk of these infections.
Conclusion:
In the present study significant risk factors for healthcare-associated urinary tract infections in patients with IUCs were female sex, age over 70 years and long catheter dwell time.
Perspective:
The results highlight that non-modifiable risk factors such as gender and age should be taken into account when deciding on the use of IUCs and IUCs should be used for the shortest possible time
Managerial Use of Generative - AI Enablers and Constraints in a Consulting Context
Generative AI tools like ChatGPT can transform how managers make decisions, yet adoption
at the managerial level remains limited. Why? Through interviews with nine managers at
Rejlers and validation from a generative AI transformation specialist, we identified three key
constraining areas. Trust develops through domain expertise, creating a paradox where
knowledge enables verification of generative AI outputs while simultaneously making
managers more critical of them. Managers with stronger expertise feel confident using AI
because they can evaluate accuracy, yet this heightens their scrutiny of AI-generated content.
Boundaries are established based on contextual understanding. Managers readily delegate
routine tasks to generative AI while reserving complex, relationship-sensitive decisions for
human judgment. AI's lack of organization-specific context limits its utility for company specific challenges. Practical barriers impede adoption, including insufficient integration with
existing systems, established work habits, and limited awareness of generative AI capabilities.
These factors often prevent adoption even when managers recognize potential benefits.
From these insights, we developed the Managerial AI Interaction Framework illustrating how
managers progress through four stages: awareness and experimentation, competence building,
workflow integration, and boundary-aware collaboration. Our research suggests that effective
human-AI collaboration requires addressing trust dynamics, establishing appropriate task
boundaries, and overcoming practical integration barriers rather than focusing solely on
technical capabilities
