This study explores how sustainability influencers on Instagram shape the emotional experiences of Generation X (born 1965–1980) regarding a sustainable lifestyle. Using a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews of ten Swedish Instagram users from Generation X, the study applies Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Parasocial Interaction Theory (PSI) to analyze emotional responses such as hope, inspiration, stress, and anxiety. Three key themes emerged from the thematic analysis: attitudes and behavioral change, credibility and subjective norms, and parasocial relationships and emotional connections. Findings reveal that authentic and practical sustainability messages encourage positive emotions and possibly minor behavioral changes, such as using reusable bags or buying local produce, but skepticism, perceived hypocrisy, and practical barriers like time constraints limit engagement. Credibility strengthens social norms and trust, while parasocial relationships enhance motivation through relatability. The study highlights Generation X’s unique position as a skeptical yet influential consumer group, contributing new insights to influencer marketing and sustainability research by addressing a previously overlooked demographic.

STRAIGHT FROM CRAWLING TO RUNNING: THE TRANSITION FROM STUDENT TO COMPETENT ACUTE CARE NURSE A literature review of new nurses’ experience of mentorship programmes in acute care settings

Background: Acute care settings such as EDs (Emergency Departments) are high-stakes environments where quick decision-making is essential. These units care for a wide variety of patients with complex and urgent conditions. For new nurses, starting a career in these care settings can be distressing and overwhelming, often due to lack of experience and underdeveloped clinical competence. These challenges highlight the importance for structured mentorship and thorough orientation programmes that can support new nurses in developing their clinical development skills and building professional confidence. Aim: To describe mentorship programmes and to explore the experiences of new nurses participating in these programmes. Method: A literature review was conducted based on nine included studies, which were analysed following Friberg’s model for literature review. Findings: Two main themes were identified: (1) The design of the mentorship programmes, which were further explored through sub-themes including programme structure, support systems, and the characteristics of a good mentor. These elements help to shape a supportive environment for new nurses. (2) The experiences of new nurses participating in these programmes, with subthemes including stability and continuity, workload, team dynamics, and fear and uncertainty. These experiences, in turn, reflect the challenges and growth opportunities faced by new nurses during their transition. Conclusions: Mentorship programmes need to be carefully planned; informal programmes are often not experienced positively by new nurses. When the programme is well structured with clear mentors, the consensus seems to be positive in many aspects. New nurses participating in these mentorship programmes tend to find them useful, despite often being cut short. Further research is needed to truly get the full picture of how new nurses could get the best transition from being a student to working as a nurse in an acute care setting

How do Swedish consumer product-oriented SMEs manage risks in an international market expansion?

Swedish consumer product-oriented SMEs internationalize to expand their companies. However, foreign market expansion exposes them to new measurable risks and unpredicted uncertainties. This thesis aims to explore how such companies manage risks in their international market expansion by conducting a qualitative multiple-case study where nine firms were interviewed. The results of the study found that most companies’ risk management was reactive in the early stages of their journey. As time progressed and knowledge was accumulated, they found the importance of belonging to networks and nourishing their partnerships, as this would reduce some of their risks. Further, the younger the company, the more guidance for decision making was found through what they could afford to lose, rather than how they could maximize their profits. As some of the companies got older and matured, their risk management incrementally developed into a more proactive approach. The companies had varying combinations of courage and caution in their approaches to risk management in their internationalization journey. Therefore, the recommendation was for each company to find its own equilibrium to enable sustainable growth and survival of unexpected obstacles. However, it is important to acknowledge that finding the right balance may involve setbacks along the way

Thinking images: Filmic thought and the viewer’s perception in the films of Apicahtpong Weerasethakul

This thesis explores the concept of the ‘filmind’, film as a thinking entity, through Daniel Frampton’s book Filmosophy and the film phenomenological work of Vivian Sobchack. Highlighting the embodied viewer in the film experience of Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s films the aim asks: In what way can Apichatpong Weerasethakul's films be understood as independent ‘thinking’ entities, and how does this affect the viewer experience? A dialogue emerges by bringing Frampton’s notion of the filmic thought and Sobchak’s theory of the film into conversation. The combination of these two theories allows us to push the traditional phenomenology further by addressing the film’s thinking and the viewer as the receiving subject. The analysis focuses on Weerasethakul’s films: Tropical Malady, Hotel Mekong, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and Cemetery of Splendour, in a phenomenological close reading to explore filmic action and viewer immersion. The analysis finds that Weerasethakul’s films demonstrate a form of thinking in the non-linear temporality and uncertainty of the film’s own ‘being’. The filmind and the viewer meet in the mood of the film, which mediates a suspension where the filmind and viewer both participate in the same shared space of being unknowing. The viewer is drawn to the film in a search for meaning, rather than the actions of the narrative

FRAMING MIGRATION: POLITICAL PARTIES’ MIGRATION DISCOURSE IN ELECTION CAMPAIGNS SINCE THE MIGRATION CRISIS

Since the 2015/2016 ‘refugee crisis’, which saw a sharp increase in the influx of refugees, immigration has become one of the most contested topics in the public and political debate in the European Union (EU). The crisis and the resulting increasing salience of the migration issue have particularly fuelled the political discourse and led to the rise of far-right parties in many member states. This master’s thesis aims to investigate how parties’ framing on migration during election campaigns has developed since the crisis until most recently in 2025. Thereby, the questions of how the migration framing has changed and whether other parties have converged towards the far-right’s anti-immigrant framing, and if so, to what extent, are analysed. This is done by conducting a case study of Germany as a particularly crucial case for the EU. The theory is based on an actor-driven logic, indicating that parties along the political spectrum frame migration with the frames typical for their position along the left-right party spectrum. However, this is expected to change in times of high salience of the issue and under pressure from the far-right, leading to a convergence towards the far-right’s migration framing. To analyse the political discourse, the manifestos of the six most important German parties along the left-right party spectrum from the last three federal elections in 2017, 2021 and 2025 are examined. Thereby, frame analysis and a self-created codebook serve as the method and analytical framework. The results show that especially centre-right parties converge towards the far-right’s migration framing, while also centre-left parties slightly move towards the far-right’s discourse. Furthermore, even left parties adopt frames similar to those of the far-right, indicating the normalisation of the far-right’s position in the political discourse

Swedish Climate Politics as a Consensual Issue: Party Competition within Policy Agreement

This thesis examines whether climate policy functions as a consensual issue in the context of Swedish party competition. Drawing on the framework developed by Guinaudeau and Persico (2014), the study analyses party manifestos from 2006 and 2022, focusing on climate goals, policy means, and rhetorical framing. Through a two-level qualitative content analysis, the findings reveal partial consensus on overarching goals, particularly the goal of net-zero emissions. However, parties diverged significantly in their choice of instruments, justifications, and emphasis. While 2006 displayed signs of emerging alignment, the 2022 manifestos reflect deeper ideological narrative division. The analysis suggests that climate policy cannot be classified as a fully consensual issue, but rather as a strategically contested domain within shared outer boundaries. The study contributes to issue competition theory by highlighting how consensus may coexist with meaningful intra-issue variation in multi-party systems

The Impact of Organizational Culture on Post-M&A Profitability: A Quantitative Study of Nordic Small-Cap IT Acquirers

The recent rise in mergers and acquisitions (M&As) activity reflects the growing opportunities for expansion in an increasingly technology-driven world. Despite this potential, an estimated 70 to 90 percent of M&A transactions fail to meet expectations. Research often identifies organizational culture as a key risk factor, with misalignment in organizational culture contributing to approximately 30 percent of failed deals. This issue is critical for smaller IT firms, where organizational culture plays a central role in maintaining competitive advantage. This thesis employs an OLS regression approach to examine the extent to which alignment in organizational and national culture influences post-M&A profitability in Nordic small-cap IT firms. The analysis is grounded in three theoretical frameworks: the Resource-Based View (RBV), Post-Merger Integration (PMI) theory, and Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory, which inform the development of the study’s three hypotheses. These hypotheses are tested using independent variables that capture the alignment in organizational culture (horizontal compared to cross-industry M&As), in national culture (domestic compared to cross-border M&As), and national cultural distance based on Hofstede’s dimensions, as predictors of post M&A profitability measured by Return on Assets (ROA). A dataset of 54 Nordic IT acquirers involved in M&A transactions between 2010 and 2021 was analyzed. Across seven OLS regression models, including a main analysis and two robustness tests, none of the independent variables significantly predicted post-M&A profitability. Instead, the internal firm-specific characteristics of the acquirer, such as firm size, ROA, and capital structure, measured before the M&A, emerged as the primary drivers of post-M&A profitability. These results challenge the traditional belief that cultural alignment leads to higher post-M&A profitability and instead highlight the significance of integration capabilities and the ability to reconfigure resources with flexibility. The study contributes to the M&A literature by offering a capability-based and process-oriented perspective on integration success, particularly in innovation-driven industries such as IT
