The relationship between the migration experience and risk perception: A factor in the decision to become an entrepreneur

    Get PDF
This study examines the proposition that the migration experience influences perceptions of risk and, as such, the ‘migrant condition’ is a factor in explaining relatively high rates of entrepreneurship among immigrants in many host countries. The study analyses data obtained from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor(GEM) Spain 2009 Survey with regardto perceptions of risk in beginning a new venture. The study finds that immigrants to Spain, irrespective of their originor ethnicity, are less likely than native Spaniards to perceive business creation as a risky situation. Moreover, the findings suggest that the perception of risk has a significant impact on the decision to engage in business start-up activity

On Nilpotent Minimum logics defined by lattice filters and their paraconsistent non-falsity preserving companions.

Nilpotent Minimum logic (NML) is a substructural algebraizable logic that is a distinguished member of the family of systems of Mathematical Fuzzy logic, and at the same time it is the axiomatic extension with the prelinearity axiom of Nelson and Markov’s Constructive logic with strong negation. In this paper our main aim is to characterize and axiomatize paraconsistent variants of NML and its extensions defined by (sets of) logical matrices over linearly ordered NM-algebra with lattice filters as designated values, with special emphasis on those that only exclude the falsum truth-value, called non-falsity preserving logics. We also consider turning these non-falsity preserving logics into Logics of Formal Inconsistency by expanding them with a consistency operator, and we axiomatize them as well. Finally, we provide a full description of the logics defined by finite products of matrices over finite NM-chains

Teaching and learning about the Holocaust and nazi persecution through the online tool “Storiesthatmove” as a basis to promote the fight against current discrimination. Practical case in a high school class

    Get PDF

Time perspectives and procrastination in university students: exploring the moderating role of basic psychological need satisfaction

Background: Research on procrastination, regarding time perspective factors and basic psychological need satisfaction (BPNS) has placed this problem at the meeting point of individual and contextual variables. The present study focused both on the individual, given that time perspectives can be defined as a person’s attitude to an object (time) at three moments (present, past, future); and on contextual aspects, because the satisfaction of basic psychological needs (competence, autonomy, relatedness) is facilitated or made difficult by social contexts. Based on this, the aim of this study was to analyse the relationships between time perspectives and inter-subject procrastination variations, testing the moderating role of BPNS in this relationship. Method: A total of 1,188 undergraduate students, aged 17-50 years (M = 20.02, SD = 2.63), completed three questionnaires containing the variables of interest. Results: Regression analyses showed significant negative (thus, potentially protective) association of future time perspective with all three procrastination dimensions (decisional procrastination, implemental delay, and lateness). Conversely, past-negative time perspective showed a positive (thus, potentially adverse) association with procrastination. Satisfaction of the need for competence also showed a negative (thus, potentially protective) association with all procrastination dimensions. On eight occasions, the relationships between time perspectives and procrastination dimensions were moderated by psychological need satisfaction. Conclusions: These findings show that BPNS may play relevant roles in the negative (favourable) relationships between procrastination dimensions and positive time perspectives, as well as in the positive (adverse) associations between negative time perspectives and procrastination dimensions. Contextual interventions fostering enhanced levels of perceived autonomy, competence, and relatedness, as well as future time perspective, are thus strong candidates to consider for use and evaluation by policy makers, pedagogues, teachers, coaches and other professionals interested in counteracting procrastination tendencies

A current challenge for primary and secondary education schools is to develop practices that promote greater engagement of students in their learning. Personalized learning responds to this challenge by placing the learner at the centre of teaching and learning processes. Within this framework the present study adopts a multi-informant approach so as to compare the perceptions of teachers, students and their parents regarding the level of engagement in school activities and learning, and on the factors that promote it, while also exploring whether these perceptions are influenced by certain characteristics of schools. To this end, we developed three versions of a questionnaire (one for each kind of informant) and applied it across a total of 14 schools (258 teachers, 2731 students and 718 parents). Sampling of schools was intentional, seeking variation in the following aspects: educational stage taught, type of school, size, socioeconomic context and the school’s educational philosophy. Analysis of questionnaire responses revealed significant differences between the three groups in their perception of student engagement, as well as regarding the factors that promote it. There was no consistent pattern as to the characteristics of schools that may influence these perceptions. These results underline the need to design support processes for teachers, students and parents that take into account their different perspectives and guide them towards a shared vision of new educational practices based on personalized learning

Purchasing attitude in the metaverse through virtual reality glasses

New technologies focused on virtual reality (virtual reality glasses and metaverse worlds) are penetrating rapidly due to their swift development. The use of these specific technologies is becoming widespread, and brands are testing new relationships with their customers within these virtual reality worlds. The aim of this study was to exploratively analyse the adoption of these technologies by university students for shopping. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) technology adoption model was adapted, complementing it with other variables to analyse the possible behaviours of users in this novel purchasing process. The results validated all the variables of the UTAUT model, as well as other variables and their impact on the buying attitude in the metaverse using virtual reality glasses. The study provides valuable insights into the factors that influence users' attitudes towards making purchases in a metaverse using virtual reality glasses

Soledad en Personas Mayores Mapuche Urbanas en Chile: Afirmación de la Identidad Étnica, Autonomía y Bienestar Subjetivo como predictores

    Get PDF
This study seeks to identify the factors that predict loneliness among urban Mapuche older adults in Chile. Using a cross-sectional, non-experimental design with a correlational scope, the study included 323 participants, with a mean age of 70.77 years. The findings indicate that a strong affirmation of ethnic identity affirmation, greater autonomy, higher levels of subjective well-being, and a larger number of cohabitants are associated with reduced levels of loneliness. In contrast, gender and age were not significant predictors. These results are important for developing public policies and intervention programs aimed at the urban Mapuche older adult population. Emphasizing the roles of ethnic identity, autonomy, subjective well-being, and the structural characteristics of social networks as key variables can help address loneliness in this demographic. Moreover, the study contributes to a better understanding of the dynamics of loneliness among urban indigenous populations, a group that has been underrepresented in research
