Spare Parts Supplier Selection Design: A Case Study of A Railway Company
Spare parts support is essential for rolling stock maintenance management. The current supplier selection model determines the selected supplier based on evaluating one aspect of the criteria (product aspect). The selection of suppliers with poor performance occurred between 2018-2020 related to the delivery of goods that exceeded the deadline and goods that did not meet specifications. The first objective of this research is to analyze and determine the relevant priority criteria for selecting suppliers of rolling stock spare parts for railway companies. The second objective is to determine the rolling stock spare parts supplier by using the evaluation criteria determined in the previous process. The method used in this research is the integration of the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM), Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Technique for Others Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solutions (TOPSIS). FDM is used to select important criteria for the selection of suppliers of rolling stock parts. AHP is used to assist in choosing various criteria through evaluation in determining the criteria's weight. TOPSIS is used to assess supplier ratings. A total of 13 criteria from 19 alternative criteria have been selected for railway companies, especially in selecting rolling stock spare parts suppliers. Furthermore, the selection becomes the basis for bidding. Finally, Supplier A is the supplier with the highest relative closeness value (0.591), followed by Supplier B (0.545), and the lowest is Supplier C (0.282)
Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm to Solve Vehicle Routing Problem with Fuel Consumption Minimization
The Conventional Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) has the objective function of minimizing the total vehicles’ traveling distance. Since the fuel cost is a relatively high component of transportation costs, in this study, the objective function of VRP has been extended by considering fuel consumption minimization in the situation wherein the loading weight and traveling time are restricted. Based on these assumptions, we proposed to extend the route division procedure proposed by Kuo and Wang [4] such that when one of the restrictions can not be met the routing division continues to create a new sub-route to find an acceptable solution. To solve the formulated problem, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to optimize the vehicle routing plan. The proposed methodology is validated by solving the problem by taking a particular day data from a bottled drinking water distribution company. It was revealed that the saving of at best 13% can be obtained from the actual routes applied by the company
Determinants of E-commerce Adoption on Business Performance: A Study of MSMEs in Malang City, Indonesia
This study aims to identify and analyze the impact of e-commerce adoption on the performance of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The TOE model framework is used, but the individual context is added as a criticism of the framework as an influential factor in e-commerce adoption. Six intriguing variables were examined with five hypotheses. The questionnaires were distributed to 191 MSMEs in the food and beverage industry using Google forms and sent via WhatsApp application in order to derive their opinions or assessments, which were used as the data collection method in this study. In this study, structural equation modeling-partial least squares (SEM-PLS) was used as an analytical tool. The results of the study show that there is a significant relationship between technology, organizations, and individuals and the variable e-commerce adoption, which is expected to have a significant impact on MSME performance. MSMEs should be better able to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the business environment to improve their performance through the use of e-commerce. As a result, MSME owners are advised to use explicit competitive strategies through various activities carried out by the functional departments of the organization, such as emphasizing their advantages or expertise. In addition, the government must continue to take steps to improve human resource skills in e-commerce through various coaching, competency, and training opportunities
Designing Persuasive Application to Promote Public Transportation Use
The poor air quality of Jakarta, caused among others by fossil fuel combustion for transportation, harmfully affects the health of its people. Carbon emissions resulting from transportation activities can be reduced by getting people to use public transportation more frequently. This research aims at designing a persuasive application to encourage people to use public transportation more often. The steps of interaction design were employed. Firstly, user needs were identified using interviews, resulting in 48 interpreted needs which were then grouped into nine primary needs. Secondly, a design workshop involving users and designers was conducted to produce three concept alternatives. In the next stage, the best concept was selected using the concept scoring method and was subsequently refined through the SCAMPER method. A high-fidelity prototype was developed based on the final concept. Lastly, the evaluation process of the application prototype named ecoGlide consisted of two major parts, i.e. the evaluation of performance and persuasive qualities. The performance evaluation was conducted through Usability Testing using five criteria. The effectiveness and efficiency criteria consecutively score 91% and 71.43%, exceeding the minimum acceptable value of 70%. Furthermore, the satisfaction, usefulness, and learnability criteria respectively score 3.83, 3.88, and 3.88, which surpass the threshold value of 3.4. The persuasive quality was evaluated using the qualitative method through a coding scheme. The result shows that the Emotion and Persuasion categories were most closely related to the application use. The most influential sub-category of the persuasion aspect is Reward Driven, which ranks 4th out of 14 sub-categories. Overall, the ecoGlide application was considered to have good usability and persuasive ability
Manajemen Perawatan Menggunakan Metode RCM Pada Mesin Produksi Kertas
One of the leading manufacturers in packaging paper in Indonesia has six production machines. To keep the production machine always in the best condition, then the role of maintenance is significant. One of the production machines, namely paper production machine 2 (PM2), has experienced increasing the number of breakdowns significantly, resulting in increased downtimes. Sudden failure causes a lengthy repair time and results in considerable production loss. The corrective maintenance method that is running at this time still not effectively reduce downtime. To minimize the number of downtimes, preventive maintenance is needed, and therefore the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) method is selected. Besides applying quantitative analysis such as Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), Mean Time To Failure (MTTF), reliability, and preventive cost calculations. This method also conducts qualitative analysis such as Functional Block Diagrams (FBD), critical engine analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure and Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). After implementing the preventive maintenance, there is an increase in reliability in the sub-system of the press section of the paper production machine 2 from only 43% to 56%, while the repair cost has been reduced by Rp 393,258,670 from Rp 5,724,825,736 to Rp 5,331,567,066 each time replacement of components in the press section. This decrease in costs will contribute to the profits earned by the company because it saves maintenance costs
Overall Equipment Effectiveness Analysis Using Discrete Event Simulation at Table Tennis Table Manufacturer
To measure the performance of the production process, an efficiency calculation is performed using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method. OEE can measure various production losses and identify potential developments that can be carried out in a production process. Recycling Solid Waste of Coconut Oil Industry: A Response Surface-Goal Programming Approach
Waste minimization is a key success factor to achieve sustainability, including in the edible oil industry. One type of solid waste produced substantially in this industry is spent bleaching earth (SBE), which comes from a mixture of bleaching earth (BE) and activated carbon (CA) used in the edible oil refining process. SBE that is recycled through a heating process is known as heat regenerated SBE (HRSBE). The process is influenced by two factors as stated in previous studies: temperature and time. In the current study, we report the results of experiments to find the optimal combination of temperature and time in restoring the absorbent quality of SBE by observing four quality parameters: colors (red and yellow), Free Fatty Acid (FFA), and Peroxide Value (PV). The current study uses Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to design the experiments and to find the equations of the relationship between the factors for each response; as well as Goal Programming (GP) to find the most optimal combination of factors in order to achieve aggregated quality targets. The findings show that 3.414 hours of heating at a temperature of 151.64oC allow HRSBE to produce coconut oil in accordance with the expected quality targets
A Hybrid Simulation Study to Determine an Optimal Maintenance Strategy
With the increasing complexity of the process industry, having excellent maintenance management is essential for manufacturing industries. Various parts that interact and interdependent with each other make a well-planned maintenance strategy is one of the major challenges facing by industry. The whole system could be interrupted just simply because of the failure of a component. Therefore, a review of a maintenance strategy must be done from a system perspective. It is suggested that the optimal preventive maintenance time interval is not only determined by the lowest maintenance cost of each machine but also its impact on the whole system. Two main indicators that can accommodate the system perspective are reliability and revenue. A large number of machines and the array of machines can be synthesized in the reliability indicator. Moreover, the creation of maximum revenue is always the main goal for a business. The best maintenance strategy will be determined from the revenue obtained by a process industry. The process industry discussed in this study is a flour mill which is very well known in Surabaya. This study applied a hybrid simulation to solve this problem. Monte Carlo simulation was used to observe the machine individually and the results are reviewed using the application of System Dynamics. Three improvement scenarios were proposed in this simulation study. Scenario 2 was chosen as the best scenario because it was able to generate the highest revenue at the end of the period. Scenario 2 recommends setting the preventive maintenance time interval considering resource availability
