PANAKAWAN'S DISCOURSE OF POWER IN JAVANESE SHADOW PUPPET DURING THE NEW ORDER REGIME: FROM TRADITIONAL PERSPECTIVE TO NEW HISTORICISM
Wayang kulit (shadow puppet) has not only been an entertainment; it is a medium to disseminate Javanese values to the public. Therefore, wayang kulit has been a site of power game. Those who could control it have their best opportunity to pass their values to the public. Throughout its history, those in power since the colonial time until the New Order regime had successfully 'used' this medium to 'educate' the public. The New Order regime, for one thing, had used this medium well. Wayang kulit promoted Suharto as an equal of Semar, a wise, god-like character. It also promoted Golkar as the most powerful political party in the New Order Era. Feudalism in wayang kulit was also used to reinforce a feudalistic regime of New Order

This research dealt with the kinds of turn-taking irregularities in the conversation among the four main African American characters in the movie "Why Do Fools Fall in Love", the reasons of those kinds of turn-taking irregularities, and which reason occurred the most frequently. This research was descriptive qualitative. The findings showed that the four African American characters in the movie tended to overlap others because they wanted to clarify, reject, or complete others' utterance, and show annoyance

The portrayal of urban upper middle class American women's community in Sex and the City-SATC-is built upon constructed symbols related to the position of urban upper middle class American Women's community and how cosmopolitan the women are. The symbol's construction is characterized by singleness, upper middle class social status, well-established career, alienation, consumptiveness, independence, gender consciousness, and open mindedness in their sexual knowledge. Television has helped to fracture traditional conventions about how women should place themselves in the midst of their society and constructed urban upper middle class American women's image and identity
TRANSLATION: A MULTIDIMENSIONAL TASK
The aim of this paper is to shed light on the pedagogical function of translation, and how it can contribute to teaching or fostering language acquisition using either traditional tools of language teaching such as textbooks, and handouts, or by technological means. PREPOSITIONS AND PICTURES IN THE ENGLISH LEARNING MATERIALS
This paper explores the types of prepositions and the common picture types used to teach these prepositions found in English textbooks commonly used in primary schools. The results showed that the types of pictures may be problematic for presenting spatial relations due to an ambiguity the pictures may create and so as may affect the understanding and use of prepositions. COGNITIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES OF NON-ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS ON NOUN STRUCTURE
Learning English for non-English department students is not as easy as it seems. Besides, as much as it is necessary to know how successful learners learn, not less important is to know how less successful learners learn. Using think aloud method, this study aims at finding out the cognitive strategies used by the engineering department students in answering incorrectly problems on TOEFL noun structure-the grammar point in which students made the most errors. Findings uncover the students' strategies and reasoning upon which pedagogical implications can be put forth so that more effective and fruitful instruction can be tailored
INTERCULTURAL FACTORS INFLUENCING THE PROCESS OF TRANSLATION
Translation is a complex process, involving linguistic, cultural and personal factors. This article seeks to show how intercultural factors constitute one of the main sources of translation difficultties. THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEGATIVE CONSTRUCTION IN THE LANGUAGE OF AN INDONESIAN CHILD
The development of negative construction in the language of an Indonesian child is examined. The data were the male child's utterances recorded for one year, from age 1;6 to 2;6, in a naturalistic parental participant observation. The results of data analysis seem to lead to a confirmation that the linguistic behaviors of language-acquiring children at the same time reflect species-specific, language-specific, and individual-specific processes of language acquisition
