Analysis of Teachers as Role Models in Strengthening the Character of Elementary School Students: Phenomenological Study at SDN Tegal Alur 08 Pagi
This study aims to describe and analyze the profile and process of teachers who act as models in strengthening students’ character, as well as to identify their weaknesses and strengths in performing this role. The research is relevant to current educational issues concerning the importance of character education and the need for teachers to serve as moral exemplars for students. This study employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach conducted at SDN Tegal Alur 08 Pagi, involving six teacher participants selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using NVivo software. Data validity was ensured through confirmability, credibility, transferability, and dependability. The findings indicate that teachers’ profiles as role models in character education are reflected in habituation programs, active learning, and continuous reflective approaches supported by professional competence and integrity. The process of character strengthening is carried out systematically and sustainably through multifaceted roles and techniques applied both inside and outside the classroom. Challenges experienced by teachers include limited facilities, family environmental influences, and emotional pressure in balancing academic and moral responsibilities. Meanwhile, teachers’ strengths lie in their consistency as role models, close relationships with students, the use of persuasive discipline, creative learning approaches, and the holistic integration of character values supported by the school’s vision and mission. From a phenomenological perspective, the study highlights how teachers interpret their experiences as moral models, viewing character education as a reciprocal process of learning and reflection rather than a one-way teaching effort

Direct Method in Small Group ELT Sessions: Investigating Students’ Perceptions of Comprehension and Engagement
Direct Method is a teaching strategy that emphasizes the full use of the target language. Its application can encourage students' active engagement and in-depth understanding of the target language. However, its application in large groups has several limitations, such as limited time for individual feedback and low student participation. Therefore, the use of the Direct Method in small group sessions can improve students' comprehension and engagement in English learning. This study explored students' perceptions of the Direct Method in ELT small group sessions, focusing on comprehension and engagement. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five English Language Education students who had experienced the application of the Direct Method in small group sessions. The results showed that the Direct Method significantly improved students' comprehension, especially in vocabulary, listening, and speaking skills, by familiarizing them with English and providing opportunities for them to express their ideas. Furthermore, the small group sessions allowed for more focused interaction between teachers and students, resulting in more detailed feedback and increased student confidence. The study also highlighted the importance of teachers as a key role in fostering student engagement through interaction, motivation, and feedback, as well as the importance of incorporating relevant and interesting learning topics to increase participation. Despite challenges related to students' varying levels of English proficiency, these findings confirm the effectiveness of the Direct Method in small group sessions in promoting active learning and improving comprehension

Implementation of the Integration of Science and Islam in Islamic Education: Strategies for Building a Non-Dichotomy Paradigm
This research responds to the real challenges in madrasahs, where low integration of Islamic knowledge with scientific education is hindered by limited teacher competencies and inadequate learning facilities. Using a library research method supported by case studies of Islamic Religious Education laboratories, this study aims to clarify the objectives and relationship between science and Islam as well as the challenges and practical solutions for integration. Findings show that integration is a complementary process where science strengthens religious understanding (faith), while Islam guides the objectives and orientation of human endeavors. Practical strategies include interdisciplinary curriculum development, teacher training to improve qualifications, and establishing Islamic Religious Education laboratories that use natural phenomena as learning media. These laboratories serve as places for practising and researching Islamic teachings, enhancing students’ competence and stimulating scientific attitudes. The study’s implications offer concrete benefits for educators by providing effective teaching strategies, for students by fostering a holistic worldview connecting material and spiritual dimensions, and for policymakers by informing policies and programs supportive of science-Islam integration in educational institutions. This integrative approach is vital for developing comprehensive education in madrasahs that addresses contemporary educational and spiritual needs, enhancing learning quality and educational infrastructure

Empirical Insights into Capacity Building and Quality Assurance in Ethiopian Higher Education
This study investigates the policy dynamics and institutional mechanisms guiding capacity building in Ethiopia’s higher education within the framework of internationalisation and quality assurance. Drawing on a qualitative document review approach, the research analysed government policies, institutional strategies, and accreditation reports to assess how national directives align with global trends in higher education reform. The findings indicate that Ethiopian education policy increasingly incorporates internationalisation goals, such as academic mobility, collaborative research, curriculum benchmarking, and global quality standards. Strategic plans also highlight the importance of institutional autonomy and contextual relevance in Islamic education delivery. Despite this, the study reveals persistent challenges, including inadequate financial support, coordination gaps between agencies, and limited institutional readiness—especially among faith-based universities. Empirical evidence, including national audit reports and academic performance records, points to modest growth in faculty qualifications and research output in recent years, although progress varies across institutions. Thematic analysis suggests that while policy aspirations are clear, the operationalisation of these ambitions remains uneven and highly dependent on external funding and technical assistance. Moreover, the regulatory environment lacks specificity in addressing the dual demands of religious identity and global competitiveness. This paper contributes to ongoing debates on harmonising Islamic education with international academic standards in the Global South. It offers policy-level recommendations to strengthen institutional governance, resource mobilisation, and inter-agency collaboration. Ultimately, the study encourages rethinking capacity building not only as institutional enhancement but also as a culturally grounded and globally oriented transformation process in higher education systems
