Per una teoria freudiana della rappresentazione del lavoro nel romanzo: alcune ipotesi preliminari
Get PDFThis article seeks to explore, from a theoretical perspective, the issue of the representation of labour in the novel. The first paragraph discusses «the plainness and iterativeness of work», which are the two aspects that, according to James Agee, make it such a peculiarly complicated narrative theme. The problem is thus theorized in terms of how the theme of iterative work can be effectively expressed in novels.
The second paragraph is functional to the argument developed in the third and last paragraph and deals with a non-literary problem. Through a meta-psychological reading of Weber’s Protestant Ethic, it offers an interpretation of capitalist ethics from a psychoanalytic conceptual framework.
The third and last paragraph discusses Francesco Orlando’s Freudian theory of literature, Orlando’s take on the notion of «return of the repressed», and his theorization of the representation of obsolete objects. Finally, I argue that it might be possible to recognize, in literary language, mechanisms that express the instances of the Super-ego.Il saggio tenta di esplorare il problema della rappresentazione del lavoro nel romanzo da un punto di vista teorico. Il primo paragrafo propone un inquadramento preliminare dei due aspetti che sembrano concorrere a rendere il lavoro un tema essenzialmente anti-narrativo, vale a dire il suo carattere elementare e la sua iteratività, e arriva a porre il problema nei termini dei modi che il tema del lavoro iterativo trova per esprimersi nella forma romanzesca.
Il secondo paragrafo affronta un problema extra-letterario: prendendo le mosse dall’Etica protestante di Weber, ne conduce una lettura meta-psicologica, con l’obiettivo di indagare il significato del lavoro razionalizzato per l’economia libidica, e porre così le basi per un’indagine relativa all’etica capitalista in una prospettiva psicanalitica. Il terzo e ultimo paragrafo prende le mosse dalla teoria freudiana della letteratura di Francesco Orlando. Riflettendo sulla nozione di «ritorno del represso» e sulla teorizzazione della rappresentazione degli oggetti desueti, mi chiedo se i contenuti che Orlando inscrive in tale categoria non siano che una parte dei contenuti possibili; se esista, nel linguaggio letterario, uno spazio per le istanze inconsce relative non all’Es ma al Super-io; e dove vada individuato tale spazio

Get PDFTheatre and work not only show many similarities but also have influenced one another for a long time. The following paper investigates how contemporary German theatre – specifically the work of the theatre collective Rimini Protokoll – deals with the representation of work in performative and interactive plays. Focusing first on the general approach of the group on this subject and then on the performance Gesellschaftsmodell Großbaustelle it will be shown how, by exploiting affinities between work and theatre and also ironically recurring to different theatre traditions, Rimini Protokoll’s theatre aims to counteract the alienation and de-personalization brought about by the mechanisms that regulate post-capitalist labor in order both to rehabilitate work – also theatrical work – as an indeed productive dimension of humankind and to urge a reflection on condition of the (post)modern homo laborans.
Il teatro e il lavoro non solo mostrano molte somiglianze fra loro ma da tempo si influenzano a vicenda. Il seguente articolo si propone di indagare come il teatro tedesco contemporaneo, in particolare il lavoro del collettivo Rimini Protokoll, affronti la rappresentazione del lavoro in spettacoli performativi e interattivi. Concentrandosi prima sull'approccio generale del gruppo a questo tema e poi sulla performance Gesellschaftsmodell Großbaustelle si mostrerà come, sfruttando le affinità tra lavoro e teatro ma anche ricorrendo ironicamente a tradizioni teatrali diverse, il teatro di Rimini Protokoll si propone di contrastare l'alienazione e la de-personalizzazione provocate dai meccanismi che regolano il lavoro post-capitalista sia per riabilitare il lavoro - anche quello teatrale - come dimensione realmente produttiva dell'uomo che per sollecitare una riflessione sulla condizione dell'homo laborans (post)moderno

Get PDFBy presenting the mannerist option of the Ipersonetto, Andrea Zanzotto pays an explicit homage to Gaspara Stampa. The overused expressive code of the sonnet reactivates its energy by taking root in a specific place-territory of the enunciation: the wooded and hilly landscape of Montello. But the ancient poetess does not appear among the verses of the modern poet. It is necessary to seek her by imagining a dialogue that relativizes the chronological gap, thanks to the poetic affection released by contact with the same landscape, loved and lover. In both cases, in dissimilar ways, the environmental context frees itself from the descriptive and background typicality of the topos, to manifest itself with a communicative and desiring vivacity.Presentando l’opzione manieristica dell’Ipersonetto, Andrea Zanzotto rende un esplicito omaggio a Gaspara Stampa. L’abusato codice espressivo del sonetto riattiva la sua energia radicandosi in uno specifico luogo-territorio dell’enunciazione: il paesaggio boschivo e collinare del Montello. Ma l’antica poetessa non fa capolino fra i versi del poeta moderno. Occorre cercarla immaginando un dialogo che relativizzi la divaricazione cronologica, grazie all’affetto poetante sprigionato dal contatto col medesimo paesaggio, amato e amante. In entrambi i casi, per vie dissimili, il contesto ambientale si svincola dalla tipicità descrittiva e di sfondo del topos, per manifestarsi con una vivacità comunicativa e desiderante

Get PDFThis essay examines the role of the iconotext of the first Italian edition of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, published in the magazine Il Romanziere contemporaneo illustrato in 1868-1869.
After a consideration of the complementarity of typescript and images in the original edition, Le memorie di Davide Copperfield is placed in the context of the Milanese publishing world in the decade following the Italian Unification before proceeding to a contrastive analysis of how the illustrations of the Treves edition differ from those of the original.
The impression of greater respectability given by the Italian edition is mainly due to the different treatment of the female characters, who are never shown as ‘fallen women’. With undignified themes and irony entirely eliminated, the novel is drained of its tragicomic vitality and reduced to a one-dimensional romantic sentimentalism typical of Italian versions of foreign novels in this period.Questo contributo si propone di esaminare il ruolo dell’iconotesto della prima edizione italiana del romanzo David Copperfield di Charles Dickens pubblicata sul Romanziere contemporaneo illustrato dal 1868 al 1869.
Partendo da alcune considerazioni sul rapporto di complementarità tra scrittura e immagini nella princeps londinese, Le memorie di Davide Copperfield viene inquadrato negli spazi mediali in corso di definizione dell’editoria milanese del decennio postunitario per proporre un’analisi contrastiva delle illustrazioni presenti nelle due edizioni.
L’impressione di maggiore rispettabilità del primo Copperfield italiano deriva in primo luogo dal diverso trattamento dei personaggi femminili, mai ridotti a devianti “fallen women”. Rimossi i temi più indecorosi e ogni traccia di ironia, il romanzo viene prosciugato della sua tragicomica vitalità e appiattito su un sentimentalismo romantico monodimensionale tipico delle versioni italiane del periodo

Get PDFAt the very beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the act of loading shopping carts more than usual materialized as a sensible choice for most shoppers. Yet, stockpiling was constructed in parallel to the social pathologizing of so-called panic buying. Panic buyers emerged as supermarket “loose cannons” who seemed to create an “indecorous” spectacle out of what is usually considered an unremarkable act of everyday life. In this context, through the disjunctive comparison of experiences of grocery shopping in Italy and England, this paper looks at material cultures of preparedness and moral cosmologies of everyday consumption as they acquired social salience during the first few months of the Covid-19 pandemic (from March to June 2020). Spunti salgariani nell’arte italiana della prima metà del Novecento
Get PDFIl contributo propone una disamina su particolari aspetti della pittura orientalista italiana di fine Ottocento, argomento inquadrato in un contesto più ampio che coinvolge anche la letteratura. Genere quest’ultimo che, nella narrativa, venne ambientato in contesti esotici. L’autore per eccellenza di questo genere fu Emilio Salgari, che popolò i racconti del suo ciclo indo-malese con avventurieri, pirati: personaggi che trovano riscontro nei quadri orientalisti. Mentre l’immaginario collettivo italiano tra Otto- e Novecento si alimentava delle sue avventure, diversi nostri artisti si recarono in Estremo Oriente e Asia Sudorientale grazie a incarichi ufficiali: Chini e Ferro finirono in Siam, mentre Ambron e Locatelli raggiunsero Giava e Bali. Arrivati in Oriente in momenti diversi tutti comunque dedicarono la propria pittura al tema della danza rituale, alle sue baiadere, alle feste tribali avvicinandosi così all’universo salgariano. Da inizio Novecento dette isole furono mèta ambita anche per artisti nord-europei, che vi crearono una comunità. In un clima di rinnovamento e fusione delle più svariate competenze artistiche, costoro si dedicarono alla divulgazione delle tecniche pittoriche occidentali, dando inizio a un movimento artistico ancora famoso.
The contribution discusses particular aspects of Italian late 19th century Orientalist painting, a topic framed in a broader context that also involves literature, which set fiction in exotic contexts. The author par excellence of this genre was Emilio Salgari, who populated the stories of his Indo-Malay cycle with adventurers, pirates: characters that are reflected in Orientalist paintings. While the Italian collective imagination between the 19th and 20th centuries was fueled by his adventures, several Italian artists went to the Far East and Southeast Asia thanks to official assignments: Chini and Ferro ended up in Siam, while Ambron and Locatelli reached Java and Bali. Although they arrived in the East at different times, all dedicated their painting to common themes: ritual dance, its baiaderas, tribal festivals, thus approaching the Salgarian universe. From the beginning of the 20th century these islands became also a popular destination for Northern European artists, who created a community there. In a climate of renewal and fusion of the most varied artistic skills, they dedicated themselves to the dissemination of Western painting techniques, starting an artistic movement still famous
