On Attention, or Getting Out of Automation
Get PDFThis paper explores the intimate connections that exist between the psychological phenomena of internal attention and mental automatism. The article does not regard attention as a psychological process made up of cognitive components, rather it takes into consideration the internal dimension that is shared by the meditative state as it is maintained by J. Krishnamurti in his public lectures. Some connections between the Weltanschauung of J. Krishnamurti and those of the pre-socratic “sofoi“ (“wise philosophers” or “knowledge seekers”) are here highlighted, due to their being cultural, psychological and intangible worlds that connect the east with the west, with special regard to Heidegger’s philosophy. The article investigates attentive processes and goes on to examine some clinical examples taken from experiments of hysteria induced somnambulism and from experiments of hypnosis through which the author explores both the notion of mental automatism and that of affective type autonomous complex, as they appeared in Janet’s and Jung’s works. The analysis is concluded with exemplary clinical anecdotes that show how reflexive attention can lead to consciousness where automatism would otherwise reign and therefore make one able to abandon the predominant psychological complex responsible for psychopathological blocks
Forms of Inattention Within the Psychoanalytic Setting
Get PDFThe term "attention" does not find a prominent place in Freudian-derived psychoanalysis, nor does the literature currently seem to devote… much attention to it. In principle, a path could emerge that moves from Freud's idea of "free-floating attention", to proceed to the relationship between attention and interpretation as proposed by Wilfred Bion, and finally arrive at the concept of reverie, developed above all by Thomas Ogden and at the center of post bionian developments. From a summary examination, one could say that psychoanalysis is more interested in dis-attention than in attention, or in any case in those transformations/alterations of the attentional sphere that signal entry onto the scene of the unconscious. Get PDFNel suo saggio Giuseppe e i suoi fratelli. Per un’etica della fratellanza tra utopia e riscatto, Giovanna Costanzo intreccia una complessa riflessione attorno al concetto di fratellanza. È questo un concetto scivoloso da trattare nella nostra epoca sia per i suoi evidenti legami con la cristianità (che rendono problematico un suo ripensamento in ottica politica, laica) sia per un’ambiguità intrinseca al concetto stesso, il quale, a guardar bene, mostra due facce: la parola “fratellanza” può infatti, prima di essere intesa come un legame positivo di reciprocità, richiamare all’idea di un rapporto di affiliazione tra i pochi ed eletti membri di un gruppo (fratria massonica, mafiosa, o clan familiare), accezione, questa, che è senz’altro una degenerazione di tale concetto ma che tuttavia è attiva all’interno della nostra cultura.
L’autrice si mostra a più riprese ben consapevole dell’inospitalità del terreno sul quale la sua riflessione si innesta e tuttavia affronta i nodi problematici che le si presentano per restituirci infine un quadro articolato ed estremamente attuale delle possibilità intrinseche della “fratellanza”.
Muovendosi tra l’indagine del concetto in sé e le possibilità di una sua applicazione in politica, passando per le problematicità intrinseche ai rapporti tra fratelli nel privato e, in ottica più ampia, nel sociale, Giovanna Costanzo si appoggia alla storia biblica di Giuseppe e dei suoi fratelli, filtrata dalla sua rielaborazione da parte di Thomas Mann, per restituirci una riflessione che è una riflessione sul nostro tempo e sulle nostre prospettive, come individui e come “comunità”

In all previous studies, including osteoarchaeological approaches, the debate has been conducted on terms established by the Greco-Roman sources. Here, I move away from those sources and suggest a series of demographic models in order to understand better the effects of infanticide on population growth at Phoenician colonies in the Early Iron Age central Mediterranean

Crossborder indigenous mobility in the context of Venezuelan migration flow in Brazil. A Human Rights-Based Approach to the Pemon case
Get PDFClashes between native communities and Venezuela’s army on the border with Brazil have caused a displacement of pemon in Brazilian indigenous territories where they share ethnic and family ties. The solutions so far put forward by the institutions have not been sufficient to prevent the development of human rights violations, and, on the contrary, have often been a source of internal destabilization. As of today, an alternative to the case of indigenous peoples divided by national borders is needed, as it is the duty of governments to respect their territorial autonomy and to foster the development of a safe and prosperous environment. However, legislation affecting crossborder indigenous groups is still unclear today. A human rights-based approach can be a starting point but it is of paramount importance for indigenous people to be empowered to coordinate a dialogue between themselves, international bodies and national governments.
Gli scontri tra alcune comunità indigene e l’esercito del Venezuela al confine con il Brasile hanno causato lo spostamento dei Pemon nei territori indigeni brasiliani, dove condividono legami etnici e familiari. Le soluzioni proposte finora dalle istituzioni non sono state sufficienti a prevenire lo sviluppo di violazioni dei diritti umani e, al contrario, spesso sono state una fonte di destabilizzazione interna. Ad oggi, è necessaria un’alternativa per il caso delle popolazioni indigene divise dalle frontiere nazionali, poiché è dovere dei governi rispettare la loro autonomia territoriale e promuovere lo sviluppo di un ambiente sicuro e prospero. Tuttavia, la legislazione che riguarda i gruppi indigeni transfrontalieri è ancora oggi poco chiara. Un approccio basato sui diritti umani può essere un punto di partenza, ma è di fondamentale importanza che i popoli indigeni siano in grado di coordinare un dialogo tra di loro, le organizzazioni internazionali e i governi nazionali
El giro ontológico previsto por Churata
Get PDFThe article reviews the evolution of Gamaliel Churata’s ontological meditations through specific fragments. With an analysis of the inorganic relationships between mind and matter, it tries to offer clues to the epistemic journey that the Andean writer went throughout his work. In the middle of the 20th century, in La Paz, Bolivia, there was a debate about the latest in Western philosophy. The books of Martin Heidegger and Nicolai Hartman were being translated into Spanish. Few local authors managed to assimilate and at the same time get rid of the ideas of European philosophers to build their own ontology proposal, without discarding those principles, but expanding/modifying their scope from the Andean roots. This is a note on the development of the poetics of Gamaliel Churata between the decades of the forties and sixties about thementioned subject.Un breve apunte acerca del devenir ontológico en América Latina con sus giros, asimilaciones y cambios de rumbo. A partir de cuatro fragmentos textuales poco comentados de Gamaliel Churata se explora en las relaciones inorgánicas entre la mente y la materia. A mediados del siglo XX, en La Paz, Bolivia, se debatía acerca de lo más reciente de la filosofía occidental. Los libros de Martin Heidegger y Nicolai Hartman se estaban traduciendo al castellano. Realmente pocos autores locales lograron asimilar y al mismo tiempo desprenderse de las ideas de estos filósofos europeos para construir una propuesta ontológica propia, sin descartar aquellos principios, sino ampliando/modificando sus alcances desde la raigambre andina.
