Gamaliel Churata en la Ciudad de los Reyes (1965-1969)
Get PDFThe article recovers the presence of the writer Gamaliel Churata in Lima, known as the "City of Kings" for its strong colonial identity, during the period from 1965 to 1969. At the same time, it focuses on his unknown participation in the magnate's print media Luis Banchero Rossi, in the business group Editoriales Unidas Sociedad Anónima. The magazines Mundo Pesquero and Mundo Agropecuario had a strategic influence on the political and investor sectors of the stage prior to the Agrarian Reform in Peru, proposing a type of industrial food development in constant tension with the natural and organic benefits of Peru. Within this framework, Gamaliel Churata continued to advocate the revitalization of the Aymara and Quechua cultures with an understanding of nature from an Andean ontology. The recovered articles show his facet as a chronicler in different rural sectors, always predicting a reconstitution of Tawantinsuyo. At the same time looking at the past, he kept a constant update on the most advanced animal genetic science that was developing at that time.El artículo recupera la presencia del escritor Gamaliel Churata en Lima, conocida como la “Ciudad de los Reyes” por su fuerte identidad colonial, durante el periodo de 1965 a 1969. A la vez se enfoca en su desconocida participación en los medios impresos del magnate pesquero Luis Banchero Rossi, en el grupo empresarial Editoriales Unidas Sociedad Anónima. Las revistas Mundo Pesquero y Mundo Agropecuario tuvieron una influencia estratégica en los sectores políticos e inversores de la etapa previa a la Reforma Agraria del Perú, proponiendo un tipo de desarrollo alimenticio industrial en constante tensión con las bondades naturales orgánicas del Perú. En este marco, Gamaliel Churata siguió propugnando la revitalización de las culturas aymara y quechua con una comprensión de la naturaleza desde una ontología andina. Los artículos recuperados muestran su faceta poco visitada como cronista en diferentes sectores rurales siempre augurando la reconstitución del Tawantinsuyo. Is Hermeneutics Realistic?
Get PDFSignificant proponents of both postmodern and realistic hermeneutics suggest that our efforts to understand are better when they involve a plurality of interpretative perspectives. The author of this essay argues, however, that a realist approach can provide a more persuasive reason for this orientation toward plurality. Postmodern approaches in hermeneutics suggest that we should pursue a plurality of interpretations to help us break free from the influence of reductive interpretations inherited from the past. Yet, this normative orientation runs the risk of a proliferation of interpretations that leaves us in hermeneutical isolation from one another. A realistic hermeneutics, by contrast, suggests that we should pursue a plurality of interpretations because the matters of mutual concern to us are, in and of their own reality, plural. This realistic reason to pursue a plurality of interpretations does not silo us from one another but, on the contrary, reminds us of the need for conversation that allows us to address our shared world of matters of mutual concern
An update on an imperial building complex at the 16th mile of the Via Appia: sources and materials
Get PDFThe paper focuses on an area of the Ager Aricinus at the 16th mile of the Via Appia in the urban area of Ariccia between the Via Appia and the inhabited center, delimited to the west and north by the cell of the so-called temple of Diana. Inside the aforementioned area, now almost entirely urbanized, are still preserved some structures from the mid-2nd century AD for which extensive documentation can be found in the 18th century antiquarian sources and in the cartographic reproductions between the 19th and the 20th centuries. So far, their interpretation has gone through a plurality of hypotheses (amphitheatre, thermal building, statio) for which there is a need to undertake an analytical study in order to understand its function in antiquity and its impact in the landscape context of modern age. The study will take place in two phases: examination of the historical cartography to identify the ownership of the fund on which the structures insisted through the consultation of the Collections of drawings and maps at the State Archive of Rome and the realization of a graphic restitution of the plan, integrating what has been preserved and what has been handed down from past documentation and proposing a vector reconstruction (CAD) of the building.L’intervento prende come focus un’area dell’Ager Aricinus al XVI miglio della Via Appia nell’area urbana di Ariccia compresa tra la Via Appia e il centro abitato, delimitata a ovest e a nord dalla cella del cosiddetto tempio di Diana. All’interno della suddetta area, ora quasi interamente urbanizzata, sono ancora conservate alcune strutture della metà del II secolo d.C. per le quali si rintraccia un’ampia documentazione nelle fonti antiquarie del XVIII secolo e nelle riproduzioni cartografiche tra il XIX e il XX secolo. Finora la loro interpretazione è passata attraverso una pluralità d’ipotesi (anfiteatro, edificio termale, statio) per le quali si avverte l’esigenza di intraprendere uno studio analitico al fine di comprenderne la funzione nell’antichità e l’impatto nel contesto paesaggistico di età moderna. Lo studio si svolgerà in due fasi: esame della cartografia storica per identificare la proprietà del fondo su cui insistono le strutture tramite la consultazione della Collezione I e II dei Catasti e delle Collezioni di disegni e mappe presso l’Archivio di Stato di Roma e la realizzazione di una restituzione grafica dei resti, integrando quanto conservato e quanto tramandato dalla documentazione del passato e proponendo una ricostruzione vettoriale (CAD) dell’edificio

From the Levant to Sardinia, via North Africa and Cyprus
Get PDFWithin the repertoire of the stone monuments erected in the Punic sanctuaries known as “Tophets”, the so-called “stepped altars” represent an absolute unicum since they were found only at Tharros (Sardinia). From a morphological point of view, their affiliation to the category of “thrones” at the time proposed by Sabatino Moscati can be considered an established fact. Still, their role within the ritual of the Tophet of Tharros remains unclear. This paper discusses the function of these stone monuments through a review of their archaeological context and an in-depth iconographic examination.Nel repertorio dei monumenti lapidei eretti nei santuari punici comunemente noti come “tofet”, i cosiddetti “altari a gradino”, rinvenuti solo a Tharros (Sardegna), rappresentano un unicum assoluto. Da un punto di vista morfologico, la proposta di una loro appartenenza alla categoria dei “troni” a suo tempo avanzata da Sabatino Moscati può essere considerata un dato acquisito. Tuttavia, il loro ruolo all’interno del rituale del tofet di Tharros rimane poco chiaro.
