The day and the not-day: On possible worlds and freedom (some foundational considerations)
Get PDFThis paper is divided into 1. Possible Worlds: An Approach Reading Doležel’s Heterocosmica; 2. Freedom as a Constituent and Horizon of Possible Worlds. Agreeing with Doležel’s formulation that fictional worlds of literature are incomplete, I proceed to plead for a semiotic pragmatics within a historical epistemology and to foreground the PW’s story, while doubting the usefulness of his modalities. Inescapably, a story and its PW need to be approached syntagmatically and paradigmatically (Jakobson). Part 2 aims to give some orienting suggestions about what does freedom do for understanding PWs, and what do PWs do for understanding freedom. The PWs of “word art” include a vision of limits, a possible self-rule within them; they are clearly and openly probes; and finally they are suffused with potential power and yet radical. As all arts, they are akin to phronesis, practical wisdom that discusses right choices – that is, freedom and creativity, Whitman’s “I was thinking the day most splendid, till I saw what the not-day exhibited”.

Get PDFThis article will carry out a comparative study, in four moments, on the pedagogy and historical context of the French revolutionary Joseph Jacotot and the work Resurrección de los muertos by Gamaliel Churata. In both, it can be observed that his philosophical ambitions are characterized by the radical nature of his questioning of the hegemonic model of thought, understood as the main engine of the intellectual and aesthetic stultification of humanity. The comparison of his action budgets will allow us to combine them in such a way that they illuminate and strengthen each other, with emphasis on the transposition of Churata to the Jacototian model. Thus, the radicality of each one and the greater risk of the first can be recognized, since its starting point is consistent with the indigenous altiplano episteme, basically, which rebels and argues with Western truth assumptions. Towards the end, animality and corporality will be the meeting points from which intellectual consequences can be obtained for our time.El presente artículo realizará un estudio comparativo, en cuatro momentos, sobre la pedagogía y contexto histórico del revolucionario francés Joseph Jacotot y la obra Resurrección de los muertos de Gamaliel Churata. En ambos, se podrá observar que sus ambiciones filosóficas se caracterizan por la radicalidad del cuestionamiento al modelo de pensamiento hegemónico, entendido como principal motor del embrutecimiento intelectual y estético de lo humano. La comparación de sus presupuestos de acción nos permitirá conjugarlos de tal forma que se iluminen y afiancen mutuamente, con énfasis en la transposición de Churata al modelo jacototiano. Así, se podrá reconocer la radicalidad de cada uno y el mayor riesgo del primero, ya que su punto de partida se condice con la episteme indígena altiplánica, básicamente, la cual se rebela y discute con los presupuestos de verdad occidentales. Hacia el final, la animalidad y la corporalidad serán los puntos de encuentro de lo que se podrá obtener consecuencias intelectuales para nuestro tiempo.

Education and Critical Thinking as Critical Behaviour
Get PDFIn this paper, following Rahel Jaeggi’s critique of forms of life, I contend that to identify genuine critical thinking we should start from an analysis of the normative nature of forms of life as the basic constituents of the social world. In this view, critical thinking can be seen as a critical behaviour. While genuine forms of life can recognize and consider the variety of concrete and diverse situations, on the contrary non-functioning forms of life’s critical rationality understands the norm as applied from outside of the form of life. In this case the norm, erroneously understood as a neutral and universally applicable principle, such as economic rationality, is not able to consider the particularity of forms of life as goods in themselves. I defend the meaning that an education in critical thinking must have, as a genuine and functional rationality characterising human beings in a social world

No full textIn recent years, in most Italian cities, major urban redevelopment projects have been launched in an attempt to brand the metropolitan spaces, to raise the quality standards of the regenerated environments, and to adapt them to the international canons of a homogenized urban style. Gentrification processes redraw the map of cities, disrupt the identities of urban communities, determine an increase in the real estate value of the “regenerated” neighborhood and the surrounding ones, and push the weakest services and activities to the outskirts of the city, as well as the less economically competitive social strata. Our interest is to analyze the representation of this phenomenon in Italian contemporary literature, especially in the works of Vincenzo Latronico, focusing attention on the socio-cultural effects and existential implications that this new space dominated by the late capitalist discourse provokes on the inhabitants of the city.Negli ultimi anni nella maggior parte delle città italiane sono stati avviati consistenti progetti di riqualificazione urbana che tentano di brandizzare gli spazi metropolitani, innalzando gli standard qualitativi degli ambienti rigenerati e adeguandoli ai canoni internazionali di uno stile urbano omologato ed eterodiretto dagli investimenti e dalle speculazioni del capitalismo mediatico. I processi di gentrificazione ridisegnano la mappa delle città, sconvolgono le identità delle comunità urbane, determinando un aumento del valore immobiliare del quartiere "rigenerato" e di quelli circostanti, spingendo ai margini dell'agglomerato cittadino i servizi e le attività più deboli, così come gli strati sociali economicamente meno competitivi. Il nostro interesse è quello di analizzare la rappresentazione di questo fenomeno nella letteratura italiana contemporanea, in particolare nelle opere di Vincenzo Latronico, focalizzando l'attenzione sugli effetti socio-culturali e sulle implicazioni esistenziali che questo nuovo spazio dominato dal discorso tardocapitalista genera nei confronti degli abitanti della città

Get PDFMark Z. Danielewski's 2000 novel House of Leaves revolves around a mysterious building that hides an apparently infinite subterranean labyrinth of supernatural origin. Through various typographic techniques that creatively leverage on the space of the printed page as a complex visual devices and textual artifices meant to create atmospheric effects, the author establishes what could be defined as a spatial condition. The reader’s experience is thus not neutral, since it deeply engages the embodied and affective spheres. In this paper, the analysis and discussion of these devices describes how, under some specific circumstances, the spatial dimension embedded in literature can indeed become inhabitable, sustaining the emergence of dwelling practices
