“The Noblest of all Things is Water”
In a series of lectures delivered in 1909 at the Moscow Theological Academy, Florensky presented an audacious thesis: philosophy – he claimed – was born of the worship of the god Poseidon. Significant aspects of Russian and European culture converge in the fervent scientific, philosophical, artistic, and religious terrain from which the thesis stems. Among them, certainly the varied, yet consistent, already ‘solid tradition of Russian Schellingianism’ – as Florensky calls it. This essay studies the connection of Schelling's thought with Florensky's ideas on the Milesian origin of Western philosophy, attempting to illuminate, on the borderline between the philosophy of nature and the philosophy of mythology, the powerful antinomian structure of Florensky’s thesis. In a series of lectures delivered in 1909 at the Moscow Theological Academy, Florensky presented an audacious thesis: philosophy – he claimed – was born of the worship of the god Poseidon. From the Necessary to the Useless
Starting from the impossible question “what is music?”, the paper attempts to circumscribe its meaning through different epistemological strategies: historical, empirical, objective. An attempt is made to reflect on the character of intangibility and sensoriality of musical experience that reveals its antinomic essence. Musical experience appears stretched between ineffable and exact, useless and necessary. The second part of the work is dedicated to the observation of the music phenomenon through the neuroscientific perspective.Starting from the impossible question “what is music?”, the paper attempts to circumscribe its meaning through different epistemological strategies: historical, empirical, objective. Breakpoints of a Diachronic Experience
Experience is investigated according to those breaking points where the unexpected surfaces and the surprise of the extraordinary and the alien breaks through. What happens is always in the postponement between pathos and response; this represents the fundamental agreement of a responsive phenomenology: it is never a quiet succession, but always something arriving too early or too late. Threshold experiences such as hesitation, delay, waiting, pausing, stumbling are investigated in this framework.Experience is investigated according to those breaking points where the unexpected surfaces and the surprise of the extraordinary and the alien breaks through. Frammenti di vita in un insieme. Sulla dimensione pubblica dell’abitare
This issue focuses on dwelling as a practice, an experience of lived space narrated by literature, the arts, and the media. This implies a special focus on the significant crossings of these inhabited spaces, on the encounters, the relationships that are formed and the encounters that take shape there. Contributions address the public dimension of dwelling, which can be a temporary or continuous experience, and can take place either in institutional, social or cultural spaces privileged by literary and artistic representations or in scarcely travelled, unseen, and unthought-of places.
In this essay, I am interested in analyzing, through an ecofeminist lens, the ways in which Bolivian anarcho-feminist collective Mujeres Creando has used graffiti in the first decades of the 21st century to question the intimate connection that exists in Latin America between colonialism and patriarchy. Through its interventions in the streets of La Paz, Mujeres Creando aims at an epistemological decolonization that troubles the dominant symbolic order by which men have been considered superior to nature and women, and the North has been thought of as a civilizing agent of a South seen as barbaric.
This study analyzes the characteristics of contemporary urban Amazonian literature in Peru and compares it with texts written during the first three-thirds of the 20th century, up until the publication of Las tres mitades de Ino Moxo by César Calvo in 1981. The article argues that Calvo’s novel marked a turning point in how literature from Amazonian urban centers narrates and writes about the Amazon. To explore this, the concept of contemporaneity, as proposed by Agamben, Premat, and others, is analyzed and developed. The new texts are also examined considering the concept of subalternity, as theorized by Spivak and further developed by Rodríguez. Contributions from Marcone, Pau, and Cabel are incorporated into this study. Finally, this text proposes understanding urban literature as an open category, interconnected with the literature of Amazonian communities, linked to the entire Pan-Amazonian region, and exploring a diversity of topics, including environmental care, social conflicts, prostitution, the vindication of the Amazonian worldview, and the representation of diverse sexualities. The Psychological Motivations of Nazism and Its Effect on the Superego According to Judith Kestenberg
Judith Kestenberg conducted extensive research into child victims of Nazi persecution. She sought not only to understand the psychological effects of the traumatic experiences and persecution experienced by those children but also to understand the psychological processes behind Nazi ideology and behavior. The objective of this article is to present some of her hypotheses about how Nazi ideology acted on both the victims’ and the Germans’ superegos, as well as to address her conception of the psychological motivations for Nazism. The author claims that Nazism managed to invade the superegos of both Germans and some of the victims, which meant that, in the case of the latter, the persecution continued, even after the end of the Nazi regime. She also states that the children of Nazis were also victims of this regime, whose ultimate motivation would be the Germans’ impulse to kill their own children
