Through this work we want to report the new data that pertain to the study of a group of five tombs with “cappuccina” type covering dated to the imperial Roman period, and were discovered in the Sarroch area. The focus will be on the bricks that covered and sealed the burials, which constitute the overall best preserved materials. In fact, despite still being a class of materials generally considered somehow of secondary relevance, a detailed analysis can lead not only to interesting data on the context itself but also to new starting points for studies on the surrounding area.
The Isiac Aretalogy of Maroneia (I. Thrake Aeg. E 205) is a prose hymn inscribed on stone and addressed to Isis. Scholars have often questioned the identity of the author and it is commonly accepted that he was a professional rhetorician active between the end of the 2nd and the beginning of the 1st century BC, when the inscription can be paleographically dated. After exploring the limits of these thesis, Ι will focus on the analysis of part of the local Isiac epigraphic documentation. This approach seeks to privilege the delineation of the specific socio-cultural environment, so as to look not for an author of the text as for its context of origin. I will use a recently theorized methodological paradigm in which the Isiac Aretalogies are conceived as an example of codification or canonization.L’Aretalogia isiaca di Maronea (I. Thrake Aeg.
Some Italian manuscripts from the late 13th century include a chronicle of emperors and a French annalistic text following the Faits des Romains. These two short historical texts in French prose stem from two different Latin traditions. The chronicle of emperors is a partial translation of Gilbert’s Chronicon pontificum et imperatorum Romanorum, while the French annals trace back to the Latin Annales mineures de Fécamp through the intermediary of their French translation known as the Annales brèves universelles. This paper builds on the information derived from the recently identified Latin sources to suggest new titles for the French historical texts. By considering both the genres in medieval Latin and vernacular historiography, as well as modern taxonomic requirements and common practices for titling historical texts, I propose assigning the title Chronique des empereurs d’Octavien à Frédéric II to the chronicle of emperors and Annales mineures abrégées jusqu’en 1239 en français to the annalistic text previously known as Chronologie depuis Adam jusqu’à 1239.Plusieurs manuscrits italiens de la fin du xiiie siècle associent les Faits des Romains à une chronique des empereurs et à un texte annalistique d’allure gallicane.

«Mathematically uncontrolled but humanly contained». L'approccio distopico in David Foster Wallace
David Foster Wallace wrote two dystopian novels, both set in a near future and depicting the same sort of disastrous political landscapes. This study aims to compare the two works, identifying similarities in the characters and plot between The Broom of the System (1987) and Infinite Jest (1996). Besides showing the systematic repetition of patterns in DFW’s fiction – which is in itself relevant, as these repeated creative choices often move against the canon of the most famous dystopian novels – this comparison will outline how Andrew Lang from The Broom and Don Gately from Infinite Jest occupy the same positions within their respective character systems and how the difference between the two (Lang does not have morals, whereas Gately does) causes the “narrative equations” of these partially symmetrical books to diverge towards two opposite endings, allowing the possibility of a positive resolution in Infinite Jest that DFW’s first dystopic take failed to find.David Foster Wallace wrote two dystopian novels, both set in a near future and depicting the same sort of disastrous political landscapes.
This article examines how missionaries in northern New Spain participated in the construction of a discourse that demonized certain bodily and animal manifestations present in Indigenous worldviews. Through the analysis of missionary sources, it is shown that the Christian category of the demonic, associated with the body, the flesh, and the animal, was used to identify Indigenous peoples as barbaric, bestial, and in need of redemption. Far from reproducing a reading focused solely on colonial logic, this work proposes a theoretical contrast that privileges Indigenous ways of understanding the world. Drawing on Viveiros de Castro’s Amerindian perspectivism, it suggests that the body is a form of relation and transformation among beings, an expression of multinaturalism, in contrast to the Western obsession with unity and homogeneity. Thus, the article seeks to demonstrate that missionary discourses sought to reconfigure the horizon of meaning of these societies, imposing a hierarchical and anthropocentric vision that rendered other modes of inhabiting and signifying the world invisible.
