Arysteides Turpana: una nación junto al mar
Aiban Wagua, a Dule scholar, writer and historian, affirms that in Dule society, literature is life. Moreover, Beth Brant, a Kanien’kehaka scholar, asserts, “writing is done with a community consciousness”. Following Wagua’s and Brant’s positions, these viewpoints are evident in the writings of Arysteides Turpana. Turpana’s poems reflect not the thoughts of a Dule poet as an individual; rather as from a nation. Audience members’ experiences of his works will differ when reading the poems themselves. A non-Dule reader may understand them as representing the thoughts and words of the individual poet alone. A Dule reader, on the other hand, may read them and see the collective thoughts and words of both the poet and his community. In this analysis, I focus on Arysteides Turpana’s poem, Archipiélago, which exemplify Dule way of life, Dule intellectual knowledge, and artistry, all of which demonstrate an enduring existence of the Dule nation, Gunayala, and Indigenous Abiayala.
In February 1925, the Guna people of the San Blas region (now Guna Yala) rose up against the Panamanian state and established the short-lived Republic of Tule. The presence of Richard Marsh, an American, among the rebel groups allowed for the mediating intervention of the representative of the US legation in Panama, Glover South, and a peace agreement that helped regulate the role of the state in the region and contributed to the socio-political development of the Guna in the following decades, with a greater degree of political autonomy through the creation of the indigenous reserve, later declared a Comarca (1930, 1938). This work explores some aspects of the political and intellectual conditions that existed in Panama in the period immediately following the Guna rebellion in 1925 and the subsequent development of some social disciplines, especially anthropology, history, and indigenism. In addition, it will be seen how the Guna reinforced their already established image in relation to the state system and Panamanian society in general thanks to the reception of information from the media.
The article examines the contemporary poetry of authors from the Gunadule people of Panama, with an emphasis on the anthology Bilaga Namagge, dedicated to the memories of the Dule Revolution of 1925. Through a theoretical approach that incorporates concepts from Guna thought such as argar (mediator) and makued (symbolic elevation), the study proposes interpreting Gunadule poetry as a practice of mediation between ancestral knowledge, political action, and poetic language. The article sheds light on how Guna poetics reconfigures or reaffirms certain epistemic dualities inherent to the Guna worldview. Specifically, the study focuses on the representations, tensions, and dialogues between poetic language and political action, between the human and the non-human, and between Guna and waga (non-Indigenous or foreign). Based on the poetic memories of the Dule Revolution, it is argued that Gunadule poetry does not merely serve as a tool for cultural preservation, but rather articulates new models and hierarchies grounded in its cosmocratic political vision. The Ethics of Tomorrow’s Medical Care
This article analyzes the fundamental ethical dilemma of future medicine: The choice between robotic precision and human touch. In the transhumanist era, patients face a choice between human experts and autonomous medical systems that promise statistically higher success rates. The work explores the benefits of advanced medical technologies (surgical precision, AI diagnostics, personalized medicine) and the indispensable value of the human element (empathy, clinical intuition, and compassionate communication). Key ethical dilemmas are discussed: responsibility for errors, algorithmic bias, informed consent, and the risk of de-professionalization in medicine. The conclusion supports a synergistic centaur model, where technology does not replace the doctor but complements him, allowing him to focus on ethical judgment and the therapeutic relationship. The ethical future of medicine lies not in the triumph of man over machine or vice versa, but in the creation of a reasonable and well-organized partnership
Theories of Interpretation and Wertfreiheit
This work stems from the need to deepen the reconstruction proposed for the headword “Avalutativity” in a large Dictionary of Hermeneutics (in preparation). The confrontation with the theme of “avalutativity” brings up very relevant and sometimes central questions in the 20th-century philosophical debate: from the relationship between language and experience to that between ontology and epistemology, and from the relationship between philosophy and science to accounts with the Kantian heritage. In order to address the philosophical complexity of the sources, the author develops an internal textual reconstruction of the topic, to get to the bottom of its autonomous theoretical depth
Ancora sui partigiani ossesi.
Present Discontents
This essay critiques the modern re-evaluation of the British Empire, arguing that contemporary debates – driven by identity politics, decolonisation rhetoric, and critical race theory – often reduce complex histories to simplistic moral judgments. It highlights how events like protests in Australia and exhibitions in Britain reflect broader cultural battles over imperial legacy. It calls for a more balanced, evidence-based approach to imperial history that acknowledges context, diversity of motives, and indigenous agency, warning against politicised narratives that distort the past to serve present-day agendas.
The article analyses the role of standing legislative committees within the long-term experience of the Italian Parliament. It then focuses on the recent transformations that have reshaped parliamentary functions in an increasingly decentralized context, and finally on the potential effects of reducing the number of seats in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The analysis confirms the need for a new constitutional or procedural intervention to address the obsolescence that has emerged in recent decades. At the same time, it highlights a set of possible measures relating to ancillary functions, institutional communication, and the relationship between legislative committees and civil society. Such measures could revitalize not only the specific role of parliamentary bodies, but also the broader model of representative democracy itself.
The paper aims to demonstrate how the stylistic features and tropes of the Gothic mode provide an aesthetic representation of Anthropocene phenomena. Drawing on the contrast between «landscape» and «environment» as outlined by Niccolò Scaffai’s ecocritical proposal in Letteratura e ecologia (2017) and the «becoming-animal» theory developed by Deleuze and Guattari in Mille plateaux (1980), the article analyzes a series of texts in which the figure of the kaijū serves as a means to reflect on the anthropogenic impact on nature and the relationships with various living species. As it will result from the analysis, this process leads to an exploration of alternative ethical models deviating from the dominant one. Special attention will be given, in particular, to the Godzilla film franchise and the short stories The Fog Horn (1951) by Ray Bradbury and Bridezilla (2022) by Kim Fu.L'articolo si propone di dimostrare come i procedimenti formali e le figure del modo gotico offrano una rappresentazione estetica dei fenomeni dell'Antropocene.
