This paper proposes a morpho-typological analysis of oil lamps from sector Delta in the southern part of the ex-area militare of Nora, Sardinia. Its goal is to provide data establishing the chronological period during which the large building complex was in use and to construct a fuller picture of the role of Nora in Mediterranean trade during the Roman era.

It was recently announced that China has launched the world’s first AI-powered hospital, the “Agent Hospital”, designed and developed by Tsinghua University in Beijing. The facility has 14 AI doctors and four virtual nurses capable of providing the most advanced healthcare solutions. In fact, it is expected that AI doctors will be able to diagnose and treat a very large number of patients in a much shorter time than human doctors: it is estimated that they can treat up to 3,000 patients per day. This is a real step forward in medical technology, leading to greater efficiency in the healthcare sector and even greater precision in the prevention and treatment of diseases, as AI doctors have already demonstrated an accuracy rate of over 93% in medical examinations, raising the standards of success..

Peaceful Alliances: The Collocative Policy of friþ- in Old Germanic Poetry

    Get PDF
This article examines the collocative behaviour of the Old English term friþ- ‘peace’, ‘protection’, and its Old Saxon and Old Norse cognates across the poetic traditions preserved in these languages. Building on the methodological framework established by Maria Elena Ruggerini, the study identifies and analyses the co-occurring words (collocates) structured around FRITH-, mapping their alliterative, semantic, and phonological features across time and corpora. Particular attention is given to the role of homophony, paronomasia, and formal patterning in shaping inherited pairings and enabling context-specific innovations. The article also explores the thematic range of these collocations, which encompass notions of peace, protection, and divine favour, as well as their absence, and demonstrates how such terms were reconfigured within different cultural, theological, and poetic frameworks. Through a comparative analysis of Old English, Old Saxon, and Old Norse material, the study offers insights into the combinatorial logic underlying Germanic versification and affirms the value of collocative inquiry as a means of tracing both continuity and transformation in the early Germanic poetic lexicon

    Get PDF
Economic peripheries are areas characterised by lower levels of development and dependence on economic centres. To reduce socio-economic disparities, integrated and long-term policies are necessary to foster autonomous growth while also strengthening social capital. In this process, the enhancement of cultural heritage – understood as the set of assets, knowledge, and representations that underpin a community’s identity – can play a decisive role. Numerous studies have highlighted the ability of governance networks, which involve public and private actors and aim to create public value, to promote the effective management and enhancement of cultural heritage. However, their institutional and functional dynamics in economic peripheries remain relatively underexplored. This study aims to examine the conditions under which collaborative networks can foster the economic, competitive, and social development of peripheral regions by enhancing their cultural heritage. In particular, it examines the significant case of the event «Primavera nel cuore della Sardegna».Le periferie economiche sono aree caratterizzate da minore sviluppo e dipendenza dai centri economici.

    Double Visions

This article examines Rudyard Kipling’s Kim and E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India from the point of view of the religious elements, deriving from Buddhism and Hinduism respectively, contained within them. What is entailed by the clash of cultures depicted in both works is a confrontation between different conceptions of the world, and more especially of the value of action within that world. If the story of the Buddha, and more particularly of the Bodhisattva, provides Kipling with a metaphor for the complementary quests of Kim and the lama in Kim, it is I suggest one of the cardinal religious texts of Vedantic Hinduism, the Bhagavad Gita, that provides the metaphorical underpinnings of A Passage to India

The Strategies and Politics of the American War of Independence

    Get PDF
Political-military strategies in the American War of Independence evolved interactively in response to a combination of diverse multifaceted factors, cultural, ideological and psychological, no less than material, tactical or geographical. On the Patriot side, fragmented and militia-oriented as it was, the ending of any hope to bring Canada into the revolutionary front, or the growth of confidence in guerrilla warfare and international support, or the persistence of a widespread fear that Britain might strike back easily, were to prove as much important as the dissemination of a new notion of nationhood and the creation of a Continental Army. On the British side, passivity in Europe and leniency towards the rebels stood as the main tenets of a “satisfied” power which longed for a restoration in America that would be of limited value, if concessions had to be made to ensure international neutrality, and should a substantial garrison be raised and left to hold an irreparably disaffected population down.
