    This study describes the application of the problem based learning (PBL) learning model as a solution to improve the skills of constructing the negotiating text of students of class X MIPA 2 Malang 7 High School. The purpose of this study is to describe the quality of the learning process in constructing negotiating texts using the problem based learning model, describing improvement in skills in constructing negotiating texts with problem based learning models, and describing changes in students' behavior after the learning process with problem based learning models. This class action research uses descriptive qualitative research design carried out in three stages, namely pre-cycle, cycle I and cycle II. The results showed that the application of the problem based learning (PBL) model was able to improve the skills of constructing the negotiating text of students of class X MIPA 2 Malang 7 High School. The ability of students to think critically when constructing text also increases. Through the problem based learning (PBL) learning model students are not taught to be wishful but directed to be able to solve their own problems through negotiations as outlined in a complete text in accordance with the structure and language of the negotiating text. Therefore, the application of the problem based learning (PBL) model was able to improve the skills of constructing the negotiation text by 7.22% in the first cycle and 14.50% in the second cycle and changing the behavior of students in a positive direction

    Javenese students’ problems in pronouncing english consonants during reading aloud activity

    This research aimed to determine Javanese students' problems in pronouncing some English consonants and to determine the possible causes of the problems. This was classified as qualitative research. The subjects of this research were thirty non-English department students in the fourth semester of Universitas Ahmad  Dahlan who speak Javanese as their mother tongue.  The data were collected through reading aloud task. The result of this research showed that Javanese students had  some problem with pronouncing some English consonants. The consonants were [θ], [ð], [ê­], [Ê’], [ʤ], [ʧ], and [v].  The problems were indicated as interlingual errors and intralingual errors. However, students had limited knowledge of place and manner of articulation of English consonants, so that most students often change and substitute the English consonants with relevant Javanese consonants

    AbstrakThis study aims (1) to describe localized, illocutionary, and student-speaking acts of speech acts against teachers in thematic learning at Klegen 02 Madiun. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method that leads to a description of the actual conditions in the field and then described in the text. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study are 1) locus speech acts in thematic learning conducted by teachers and students as well as students to the teacher is good enough.     Dendang is one of the oral folklores of Bengkulu city. This study aims to describe dendang Tepuk Tari in the marriage customs of Bengkulu city, the form, function, and values. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method using recording techniques, interviews, listening, and taking notes and the Snowball sampling technique. The main data in this study are the chanting poems taken from the video footage that was sung and equipped with the results of interviews with several informants. The results of this study indicate that the dendang is not only in the form of traditional songs and music, but is collaborated with seven traditional dances that resemble the movements in pencak silat. The poetry used consists of: 1) regular rhymes, and 2) talibun that are performed by means of reciprocating between the players using Bengkulu language and describing the lives of Bengkulu people.     The aim of this article is to describe about the chance to teach Indonesian language as a foreign language in higher institutions in Timor Leste and the motivation of the students in learning Indonesian language. Timor Leste people use Indonesian language as a working language and as a teaching language in some educational institution. This study is a descriptive qualitative research and uses questionnaire to gather the data. The respondent of this study are 11 Timorese students who study in higher education. The data shows that not all universities have Indonesian language course but they use Indonesian language as a teaching language in their institutions. On contrary, almost all senior high school in Timor Leste have Indonesian language course in their curriculum. The position of Indonesian language in Timor Leste als influences the motivation of the students to learn Indonesian language. Suggestions for further research and related institutions are provided

    This research and development has purpose to describe the findings of the guidance of material book product development of literature appreciation learning based on reception theory for Senior High School teachers; to describe the validity of the book by expert judgments; and to describe the reliability by teachers based on content, service, language, and graphic aspects. The research uses Borg and Gall model through the modified stages: preliminary, product development planning, product development, expert validity test, product revising, and product trial run. The validity results from content experts shows the content reliability gaining score 4.17, categorized very well; service reliability gaining score 4.38, categorized very well; and language reliability gaining score 4.25, categorized very well. The product validity from graphic expert gains score of 4.14, categorized very well. The product reliability gained from 25 Indonesian language teachers shows the content, gaining 4.32, categorized very well; service reliability gaining score 4.38, categorized very well; language reliability gaining score 4.37, categorized very well; and graphic reliability gaining score 4.41, categorized very well. The development was the useful form of innovation to maximize the learning process in schools.Â

    This article contains a discussion on the utilization of one of the archipelago text as a material for critical literacy review. Si Palalok is one of the texts of ancient texts originating from West Sumatra in Malay Arabic versions which have also been in the Latin edition. The manuscript of the story in this article is in the Arabic-Malay version found in the Aditiawarman Museum of Padang City in a still-complete physical condition, but there is a text with a lack of clarity. Much of the information contained in the texts of Si Palalok's story is still found in the reality of the people of life so that the younger generation can learn worthy values to use. The method used for text review is using content analysis techniques. The focus of the analysis of the text of the text can be obtained by using the critic literacy method. Through critical literation meth-ods, the reader is not only expected to read or understand the text but also to criticize the messages and the values of life contained therein

    Language politeness, especially politeness of directive actions among elementary school students is the main foundation for instilling the character building of children. This directive politeness action has decreased over time in line with the century of global communication and computing. This study aims to describe the shift in the realization of directive politeness act (DPA) among elementary students with a Javanese cultural background. This research method takes the form of qualitative with a dual case study strategy. Sources of research data include all elementary school students and teachers in Surakarta and Yogyakarta. Data collection techniques are carried out by observing techniques actively involved, observing free involvement, and reinforced by FGD techniques. The research data in the form of speech from DPA elementary school students in conducting language activities in a school environment both in formal and non-formal settings. Data analysis was carried out using Leech model of politeness scale technique which was strengthened by politeness analysis with the principle of social, cultural harmony, the harmony of the Gunarwan and Prayitno models. The results of the study abstract that: (a) the realization of the DPA students experience a shift in line with the shifting of the time and context of the wearer, (b) the realization of DPA can reduce the positive politeness values and psychological characteristics of the students' character, (c) the realization of the student's DPA This digital trend tends to use direct and literal methods in line with the influence of the context of communication patterns and centuries of practical computing, (d) the taxonomic shift in the dominant DPA in the sub-TKD requires, (e) the DPA taxonomy begs parallel with its realization in the sub-DPA pleading, (f) the taxonomic shift in DPA invites the dominant in the sub-DPA to persuade, (g) the taxonomic shift in DPA advises the dominant sub-DPA to remind, (h) the taxonomic shift in DPA reprimands the dominant sub-DPA satire, (i) the taxonomy of DPA prohibits parallel with the realization of the sub-DPA prohibits, (j) the character of the DPA used by elementary students with a Javanese cultural background shifts in line with shifting understanding the values of language politeness and understanding of character among the wearer

    This study aims to improve the skills of telling students VII A SMP Negeri 4 Purbalingga after using wayang cartoon media. The method of this research is descriptive quantitative and qualitative descriptive. The research design used is classroom action research. Classroom action research process includes cycle I and cycle II. The results showed an increase in storytelling skills. The average value and study completeness has increased significantly. Cycle I 61,87 sufficient category and cycle II 76,31 good category. Observations on student attitudes also indicate a better improvement. Students are more enthusiastic about learning and learning becomes fun

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan lirik lagu Bojo Galak dalam menggambarkan citra tokoh perempuan di mata pasangannya yang setia. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif untuk melihat lirik Bojo Galak sebagai salah satu bahasa yang menggambarkan citra perempuan menggunakan pendekatan semiotik dan linguistik kognitif. Dari hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa citra perempuan yang digambarkan dalam lirik lagu Bojo Galak karya Pendhoza menunjukkan citra perempuan yang memiliki superioritas tinggi. Citra seorang perempuan yang ditampilkan dalam lirik lagu Bojo Galak digambarkan, perempuan sebagai subjek superior yang memiliki kekuasaan lebih tinggi dibandingkan laki-laki. Atau singkatnya wanita sebagai kaum yang benar, sedangkan laki-laki sebagai kaum yang tertindas. Hal ini terlihat pada beberapa lirik lagu yang disajikan oleh pencipta. Selain itu, lirik-lirik yang membangun lagu Bojo Galak ini juga merepresentasikan bahwa masih ada laki-laki yang tetap setia dan berusaha mempertahankan rumah tangganya walaupun ia sering tersakiti.
