Growth and Yield of Shallot (Allium cepa L. Aggregatum group) with Application of Beneficial Microorganisms
Shallot (Allium cepa L. Aggregatum group) is one of the most widely utilized vegetables by Indonesian people. Some technologies have been adapted to improved shallot productivity. One of those are the application of beneficial microorganisms. We applied mycorrhizal fungi, Trichoderma sp., and Bacillus thuringiensis as well as the combination among these microorganisms were applied in Shallots cultivation and were investigated to improve the growth and development of shallot. A field experiment was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design with two treatment factors. The first factor consisted of two shallot cultivars, namely Biru Lancor and Crok Kuning; whilst the second factor consisted of six beneficial microorganism treatments, i.e. control, mycorrhizae, Trichoderma sp., Bacillus thuringiensis, the combination of mycorrhizae and Trichoderma sp., and the combination of those three microorganisms. The observation was conducted on infection percentage of mycorrhizae, total population of Trichoderma sp., leaf area, leaf area index, net assimilation rate, crop growth rate, harvest index, and plant yield. The data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% significance level. The results showed the leaf area of shallot was improved as affected by the application of mycorrhizal fungi. The effectiveness and implication of mycorrhizal fungi on shallot growth would decrease if the application of was combined with other microorganisms. However, the application of beneficial microorganisms had not been able to increase component yield and yield of Biru Lancor and Crok Kuning, indicated by bulb weight, number of bulb, bulb diameter, number of bulb per cluster, and bulb yield per hectare
Influences of Urea and Za Fertilizers to Soil Chemical Properties, N Uptake and Sugarcane Growth in Ultisols Seputih Mataram, Lampung
Ultisols is a less fertile soil also esay to soil leaching and erosion can cause lower efficiency of soil nutrient uptakes such as Nitrogen. The objective of this research was to find out the influences of Urea and ZA fertilizers to soil chemical properties, N uptake and sugarcane growth in Seputih Mataram Ultisols in Lampung. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design in 2 factors and 3 blocks for repetitions. The first factor was the sugarcane varieties; TC-09 (V1) sugarcane variety and TC-15 (V2) sugarcane variety. The second factor was fertilizer doses and combinations in 7 levels: 0 kg N/ha or without N fertilizer (N0); 100% of urea fertilizer from total of standard dosage of SGC (151 kgs of N/ha), which is 328 kg Urea/ha (N1); 86% urea and 14% ZA or 283 kg urea/ha and 100 kg ZA/ha (N2); 75% urea and 25% ZA or 246 kg urea/ha and 100 kg ZA/ha (N3); 50% urea and 50% ZA or 164 kg ura/ha and 360 kg ZA/ha (N4); 25% urea and 75% ZA or 82 kg urea/ha and 539 kg ZA/ha (N5); and 100% ZA fertilizer of 719 kg ZA/ha (N6). This results showed that Urea at the dosage of 328 without Za is the most effective and economist combination to increase the weight of sugar-cane per hectare, N uptake of plants, and N efficiency uptake of plants. Additional dosage of ZA increased soil acidity (decreased of soil pH). The study also showed recent that the weight and amount of population per hectare of TC 15 variety are higher than TC 09 variety
Various Soil Types, Organic Fertilizers and Doses with Growth and Yields of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni M
Stevia has several advantages including the level of sweetness that reaches 100-200 the sweetness of sugar cane and low calorie so that it is safe to be consumed by diabetics and obesity. The possibilities of plants to grow on soil properties and fertility become an important issue in agricultural cultivation systems and with the treatment of organic fertilizers will produce significant results in agricultural research. The experiments were arranged in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 various soil types of treatment factors: Alfisol (Al), Andisol (An) and Vertisol (Ve) soil with 2 types of organic fertilizer ie Compost (K) and Manure (SK) and 3 kinds of doses 20 ton/ha (12 g/pot), 40 ton/ha (24 g/pot) and 60 ton/ha (36 g/pot). Observational data were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA), if there was a real significant difference, the Duncan 5% real level to know the comparison between treatments. The results showed that the soil type of Vertisol given by compost fertilizer at 40 ton/ha (24 g/pot) gave the highest yield on all agronomic parameters, i.e. number of leaves, number of clumps, plant length, dry weight and wet weight. The result of production analysis shows that stevia at lowland can yield higher, on vertisol 2,7 ton/ha, alfisol 1 ton/ha and andisol 0,4 ton/ha whereas in highland that yield only 0,3 ton / ha (standard fertilizers) but with increasing amounts of biomass of stevia leaves can increase stevioside levels significantly
Diversity Analysis of 15 Hibiscus Accession Based on RAPD Marker
Genus Hibiscus consist of 300 species in tropical and subtropical regions. Indonesia has many species of Hibiscus genus such as Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, kenaf, rosella, waru, sharon, and others. These species have similar flower morphology despite their different benefits. Flower morphology can be use as morphological marker characters to identify the genetic relationship in one genus of Hibiscus. However, morphological markers are less accurate because they are strongly influenced by the environment, requiring quite amount of time, and showing limited and inconsistent diversity. These limitations make researcher chooses molecular markers that are considered more accurate because the material used is plant DNA. One of the most used molecular marker is Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD). This study used DNA extraction from the leaf of 15 Hibiscus genus. The next steps were DNA quantification, temperature and primer optimization, DNA amplification with PCR, electrophoresis with agarose gel, and data analysis. The result showed 10 primers operon used for Hibiscus to produce many polymorphic bands. Analysis result showed a high diversity in control population (Hibiscus cannabinus (K1), Hibiscus sabdariffa (K2) Hibiscus mutabilis (K3), Hibiscus syriacus (K4), Hibiscus schizopetalus (K5)) while in Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, the diversity was low especially on the genotypes of flowers with the same color. Molecular marker is a right way to identify the diversity in a population. Control group which consist of Hibiscus cannabinus, Hibiscus sabdariffa, Hibiscus mutabilis, Hibiscus syriacus and Hibiscus schizopetalus has high heterozygosity means control group has high diversity. From the PCA result, grouping in control plants is based on their age (perennial and annual), while in Hibiscus rosa-sinensis the grouping is based on the flowers color. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is cross pollinated plants caused the position stigma higher than anthers, its prooved by this experiment that varians within population Hibiscus rosa-sinensis higher than among population
The Effect of Rhizobium japonicum on the Growth of Soybean Cultivars in Coastal Area
The natural resources of the coastal area in Indonesia have the potential to be developed as an agricultural land with the support of both cultivation technology and land processing, which one of them was done by using Rhizobium japonicum bacteria to meet the need of nitrogen in the soybean plants. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of nitrogen fixation in various soybean cultivars planted in the coastal area. The research was conducted in Mancingan, Parangtritis, Kretek, Bantul, DIY. The study was designed in Completely Randomized Design which consisted of two factors and was repeated three times. Factor I was Rhizobium japonicum inoculation (with inoculation and without inoculation); factor II was 10 various cultivars of soybean (Grobogan, Burangrang, Argomulyo, Anjasmara, Dena 1, Gema, Kaba, Wilis, Sinabung, Gepak Kuning). The results showed that the inoculation of Rhizobium japonicum in soybean cultivars in a coastal area could increase the number of root nodule, dry weight of root nodule, dry seed weight per plant, and harvest index. Burangrang cultivar planted in the coastal area was the most responsive to Rhizobium japonicum inoculation among other soybean cultivars tested
Growth and Yield Characters of Two Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) Cultivars at Different Ages in Baubau City, South-East Sulawesi Province
Baubau City is one of the cashew (Anarcadium occidentale L.) producer area in Southeast Sulawesi with area of 820 ha. This large area of cashew cultivation was not compensated with the productivity caused of low production. An effort to overcome this problem is identifying the growth and yield characters of cashew to apply the good agricultural practices for cashew plantation. The objective of this research was to determine the growth and yield of two cashew varieties at different tree ages; and to identify the relationship between the characters and the productivity of cashew trees in Baubau City. This research was arranged by oversite design with 2 varieties (the cashew with red pseudo-fruit and the cashew with yellow pseudo-fruit), 4 ages of cashew plant (5 years old, 17 years old, 26 years old, 37 years old) and 5 replications. The results showed that both varieties had no significantly different on growth and yield characters. At 37 years old, cashew trees still demonstrated the increasing of the productivity due to the increasing of growth and yield component i.e. plant biomass, the number of flower, the number of cashew nut per plant and cashew nut weight per kernel
The Effect of Pyraclostrobin Application on Yield of Tea (Camelia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) under Wet Season
This field experiment aimed to study the effect of pyraclostrobin on tea production and to determine optimum concentration in order to maintain high yield during the period of wet season. The experiment was arranged in Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) using single factor and three blocks as replications. The pyraclostrobin doses, consisted of 4 levels, 0, 50, 100, and 150 g.ha-1, each will be tested on three tea clones. Clones tea tested are TRI 2025, Gambung 9 and PGL 15. Data was evaluated for chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, number of pecco, number of dormant shoot (banjhi), number of total shoot, pecco fresh weight, banjhi fresh weight, total shoot fresh weight, and shoot dry weight. Data were analysed by using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and LSD test at α = 5%. The results informed that pyraclostrobin was able to improve chlorophyll content on TRI 2025 clone, and improved photosynthetic rate on Gambung 9 clone. However, there was no significant different among plants treated with pyraclostrobin on a yield components, i.e., number of pecco, number of banjhi, pecco fresh weight, banjhi fresh weight, total shoot fresh weight, and total shoot dry weight
The Effects of Doses and Methods of Lime Placement to N, P, K, Ca, Mg Content and Sugarcane Growth in Ultisol Lampung Tengah, Indonesia
Land circumstances on Seputih Mataram, Lampung included in dried area which is consist of Ultisols soil (soil taxonomy). Ultisol consist of H2O which has pH of less than 5.5. It will cause the amount of soil nutrient that absorbed is not optimal yet. This research aimed to know the influence of adding dolomite to the soil chemical content (pH number of H2O, KCl, content of total N, available P, exch-K, exch-Ca, exch-Mg, Organic-C, ratio C/N, exch-Al, exch-H, CEC), nutrient content on the leaf (such as N, P, K, Ca, Mg) and sugar cane physic. This research used Completely Randomized Design 2 factors with 3 blocks repetition. First factor was the dolomite doses in six contents: without the dolomite (K0), 500 kg/ha (K1), 1000 kg/ha (K2), 2000 kg/ha (K3), 4000 kg/ha (K4) and 6000 kg/ha (K5). The second factor (R) was the depth of dolomite placement, consist of: (R1) dolomite with 0-20 cm depth and (R2) dolomite with 20-40 cm depth. The observation used to know the soil chemical content, the leaf nutrients and the variables that used into the research. The observation results variant analyzed (ANOVA) in 5 % and continued with the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) in 5 % if the result showed the real differentiation. The result showed that the depth of dolomite was not real influence to the amount of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), and Magnesium (Mg) in leaf. Dolomite addition was real influence for Calcium (Ca) uptake in leaf, but it was not real influenced the leaf uptake. Dolomite addition was real influence in the leaf content and leaf Magnesium (Mg) uptake. 6000 kg/ha dolomite for physical soil characteristic ( pH H2O, pH KCL, C/N ratio, K, P, Ca, Mg,Exch-H), leaf nutrient ( N, K, Ca), Mg and Ca uptake on leaf also sugar cane tonnage per hectare showed the maximum result
CIE L*a*b* Color Space Based Vegetation Indices Derived from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Captured Images for Chlorophyll and Nitrogen Content Estimation of Tea (Camellia sinensis L. Kuntze) Leaves
A lot of digital image techniques to assess crop agronomic character have been developed. Most of those techniques are based on non-visible light equiped cameras, such as infared wavelengths. This research was aimed to examine the use of commercial digital camera with sensor range in visible light spectrum using CIE L*a*b* color space to estimate chlorophyll and nitrogen content of tea leaf. Data was collected from an experiment of nitrogen dossage levels on 3 years after prunning tea crops. The result shows that Lb* Difference Simple Index (LI), a*b* Difference Simple Index (AI), and a* Vegetation Index (VIA) can be used to estimate tea leaf chlorophyll and nitrogen content. The relationship between VIA and tea leaf nitrogen content was defined on linear equation y = 1.8382x2 - 0.3099x + 3.0658 with determinant coefficient R² = 0.71
Review: Challenges and opportunities of implementing mass productivity scale (MPS) at date farms in Malaysia
The study aimed to review the challenges and opportunities of mass productivity scale (MPS) for the dates (Phoenix dactylifera L.) farm in Malaysia. The review on site and document was done to drill the issues faced by dates palm farmers. The common issues affecting dates farm in Malaysia were pest attack, import permit, lack of expertise, and climate and soil requirements. In a united response, the government should form the National Dates Palm Centre (NDPC) which will explore opportunities to address issues faced by the dates palm sector in Malaysia
