Mycorrhizal Inoculum Production Technique for Land Rehabilitation
Duta Maju Timber, Sumatera Barat
This study develops a predictive model on forest degradation and deforestation in Duta Maju Timber concession area West Sumatera during 1999 and 2002 period. The study found that the likelihoods of the forest degradation and deforestation are significantly affected respectively by distance from villages/settlement centers (X1), distance from rivers/streams (X3), distance from public road/logging roads (X2) and the age of logged over forest (X4). The probality of forest changes was negatively correlated with the distance from the villages and the age of logged over forest. While the rest variables (X3 and X2) are positively correlated. The best predictive model obtained for predicting forest degradation and deforestation was the logistic model (y =(10-7,64).X4-23,565.X1-6,889 . X35,505. X23,712) having considerably high coefficient correlation
Prediksi Kebutuhan Hutan Kota Berbasis Oksigen di Kota Padang, Sumatera Barat
The study describes a method for predicting urban forest area in Padang City based upon oxygen needs. The result shows that the needs of urban forest in Padang City increase continously, mainly due to the increase of industries. Since the year 2002, the spatial analysis also found that the significant increase of the urban forest need occurred in Lubuk Kilangan disctrict, i.e., approximately 368,88 hectares per year. In the year 2020, the estimate needs of urban forest in all Padang City are 14,894.61 hectares. This need is approximately 53% of the area. Furthermore, the extent of urban forest is still sufficient for supplying oxigen up to the year 2020. However, it is also the spatial analysis shows that urban forest (vegetated area) are not evenly distributed in the centers of economic activities (e.g. settlement, industries, shopping centre, etc).

Verifikasi Model Sistem Pengelolaan Tegakan Hutan Alam Setelah Penebangan dengan Tebang Pilih Tanam Indonesia (TPTI)
Lowland Tropical Rain Forest in Forest concession (HPH) PT. Inhutani II, Stagen Pulau Laut, South Kalimantan, and in forest concession PT. Ratah Timber Co, are climax forest under dynamic equilibrium, which are dominated by tree species from Dipterocarps family. Mechanical logging which is conducted in forest concession area will result in the formation of forest with certain composition and structure. Recovery of the forest is left to proceed naturally and will take a certain amount of time, and will affect the next duration of rotation. From the simulation result which were made on the basis of data from permanen plot in area of PT. Inhutani II, it was found that respond of simulation or respond of logged over natural forest management system in permanen plot, revealed that cutting cycle I after logging require ± 24 years time, whereas cutting cycle II require ± 37 years time. Model obtained from simulation result which were made on the basis of data obtained from permanen plot in area of PT. Inhutani II, is used for data which were obtained from non permanen plot at forest concession area of PT. Ratah Timber Co. Respon of simulation from forest concession of PT. Ratah Timber Co reveal that cutting cycle I after logging require ± 30 years time, whereas cutting cycle II require ± 43 years of time. This Phenomena imply that cutting cycles, are not always constant and will change in line with the composition and structure of logged over natural forest and their development with time.

Metode Survei Kayu Rakyat Berdasarkan Karakteristik Sosial Ekonomi dan Biofisik Kawasan: Studi Kasus di Kabupaten Bogor (Survey Method for Timber Stand of Private Forest based on Socio-economics and Biophysical Characteristics: a case study in Bogor Dis
The objective of this research is to determine the appropriate survey method for timber stand of private forest, based on its important characteristics. There were three methods used in this research, namely, method according to basic data i.e social-economics and biophysic data; method based on image, approached by vegetation transformacy using NDVI; and method based on integration of basic data and image. The result showed that basic data method is the best method for stratification of the village (desa), as a primary sampling unit of the private forest population (district). The second ones is basic data and image-integration method and last ones is image method. Keywords : basic data, coefficient of variation, image, NDVI, private forest, survey method, timber
Pemanfaatan Sumberdaya Hutan oleh Masyarakat di KPH Banyuwangi Utara
Forest resource plays an important role for human life in the various aspects: socio-economy, ecology and culture. This study evaluated socio-economic condition of people around forest which affected their preferences towards the level of intensity and quantity of forest utilization. Interviews was conducted by purposive sampling during March−May 2007, focusing to the forest community in RPH Sumberwaru and RPH Sumberejo, BKPH Asembagus KPH North Banyuwangi. Most respondents were low educated-farmer that utilized various forest products such as firewood, grasses, honey, seeds (Acacia nilotica, Parkia roxburgii, Aleurites moluccana) and honey. Through this study it was revealed that total value of forest products contributed to the local community was Rp 623,044,602 annually. Two most valuable forest products for local community were grasses and firewood. Grasses for fodder contributed to 60.89% and firewood was 25.53% of the total value. Totally, forest products contributed to 25.50% and 24.80% to the total income of respondents in Sumberwaru and Sumberanyar village, respectively. Keywords: forest resource utilization, socio-economy, forest community, forest product
Mapping Vegetation Cover in Mountainous Area with Linear Mixture Modeling of Ikonos Satellite Image: a Case Study in Pangalengan, West Java, Indonesia
Optimalisasi Alokasi Penggunaan Lahan di Sub DAS Ambang: Pendekatan Analitikal Hirarki Proses dan Goal Programming (Optimalization of Land Use Planning in Ambang Sub-Watershed: Analytical Hierarchy Process and Goal Programming Approach)
The purpose of land use planning on a river basin or a watershed is "to promote the accomplishment of service wide objectives and targets" subject to the lands potential and the public\u27s desires. This paper aimed to describe a representative formulation of the analitical hierarchi process and linear programming application and show how it may be modified for goal programming. The purposive sampling was used to collect primary data. From five persons were represented each stakeholders on a watershed. The secondary data was collected from the report of each stakeholders and internet. The results show that goal programing had generated considerable interest as a tool for land use planning in multiple goal situations. It does present problems in terms of somewhat difficult data requirements-linearity in its usual form, possible inferior solutions, and lack of explicit recognition of tradeoffs
Domestic Market for Jepara Wooden Furniture
Jepara regency is the center for wooden furniture industries in Indonesia, and the products are generally marketed through a number of channels. Observed from the artisan to the last consumers, there were 5 common patterns of marketing channels in Jepara regency. The structure of the furniture market in Jepara is segmented based on product, quality, and price, therefore this condition has resulted in the monopolistic competition market structure at artisan level and showroom (furniture shops). Artisans of furniture in Jepara usually get the most orders in July, September, and December. The increase in furniture production was influenced by the religious celebrations of Idul Fitri and Christmas. The survey of furniture shops revealed that most raw materials used by the shops were half-done or unfinished furniture bought from the artisan. The best selling furniture design was elegant design with carved ornaments. In the meantime, the survey result of the households in Jepara which envolved households with permanent, semi-permanent, and non-permanent houses as respondents showed that each type had a different value in the process of searching for information concerning furniture models and places to buy furniture
Deforestation and Agricultural Expansion Processes in Gunung Palung National Park, West Kalimantan, Indonesia
Gunung Palung National Park (GPNP) represents the biodiversity of tropical forests remain in Kalimantan Island. However, the natural ecosystem has been threatened by human impact. This study aimed (1) to identify the deforestation process inside the national park by imagery analysis of Landsat TM (1992), Landsat ETM+ (1999), and SPOT5 (2004), and (2) to find the driving forces behind agricultural expansions. The results showed that forest cover of GPNP decreased by 18.7% (equal with 18,675) at an average rate of 1.6% per year from 1992 to 2004. Land use changes by illegal logging were accelerated after decentralization (1,064 ha in 1992-1999 to 3,781 ha in 1999-2004). In the other side, increase of mix garden/bush area inside GPNP was relatively constant (4,555 ha in 1992-1999 to 9,040 ha in 1999-2004). Results also showed tendency on increasing areas for dry-rice cultivation and rubber plantation (averagely 2.0 ha per household). The study also revealed that secondary forest has constantly decreased in GPNP annually. Family size and income were considered as important factors that were driving forces of deforestation. To this, zoning system of the national park by clear participatory demarcation and application of effective buffer-zone support programs were recommended. Keywords: deforestation, agricultural expansion, national park, imagery analysis, zoning syste
