The Effect of Variability in Soil Hydraulic Properties on Water Flow in A Forested Hill Slope
Ear mushroom (Auricularia auricula (Hook) Underw.) were produced by cultivating the fungus on logs of kayu afrika (Maesopsis eminii Engl.). The logs of 60 cm long having a diameters of 19-25 cm were first solar dried for two months and subsequently soaked in water for three days. Thereafter, they were inoculated with the fungus by placing the inocula in the 3-4 cm deep holes made by boring the superficial part of the logs and then the inoculated logs were incubated in the room by wrapping with black polyethylene sheet for 18 days. The experiment of the cultivation was carried out with the treatment of the incubated logs as follows: i) logs placed on the forest floor and covered with black polyethylene sheets (0.3 mm thick), ii) logs were placed on the forest floor and covered with sisal sacs, iii) logs were hanged on the tree stem and covered with black polyethylene sheets, and iv) logs were hanged on the tree stem and covered with sisal sacs. Similar conditionings and treatments were also given to fresh logs (without solar drying). The experiment was also designed to find out whether cultivating the logs under laboratory conditions affect the growth and the formation as well as the development of the fruiting bodies of the fungus. Fruiting bodies were formed on dried logs 24 days after inoculation or 6 days after cultivation, whereas none was formed on fresh logs placed in the forest stand, also, fruiting bodies was not formed on all logs placed in the laboratory. There after, every 6 days, harvesting of the mushrooms could be carried out for as long as one month (5 times harvestings). The largest mushroom production proved to be on logs hanged on the tree stem and covered with the sisal sacs

Identifikasi dan Pemetaan Lahan Kritis Menggunakan Teknik Penginderaan Jauh dan Sistem Informasi Geografi
The objective of this research is to develop remote sensing and GIS techniques with hydrological approach for critical land identification and mapping. This research was done by weighting method using three variables, i.e., slope, runoff curve number, and percent land cover derived from digital and visual analysis techniques. Critical land identification was known by integrating the Curve Number resulted from combination of land use and Hidrological Soil Group, Slope and Percent Land Cover. Land use and Percent Land Cover information were derived from Landsat data, while Hidrological Soil Group results were from 1:50000 soil type map, and slope was from 1;25000 scale of topographic map. Critical land modelling was done using three parameters: slope, runoff curve number, and percent land cover. This research examined thirteen a, b, and c combinations. Mapping accuracy of the model was evaluated using erosion hazard based on USLE formula: A = RKLSCP. The study shows that remote sensing data can be used to produce land use/land cover for curve number prediction and land cover percent as critical land identification and mapping variables, having an accuracy of 62.59 percent.

Kajian Teknis Penggunaan Citra IKONOS dan CASI dalam Rangka Inventarisasi Hutan: Studi Kasus di Kebun Raya Bogor
This study examined the capability of high-resolution imageries for identifying tree species. The IKONOS and CASI (Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager) data were examined to digitally identify 20 tree species and estimating stand density. The numerical taxonomy using nearest neighbor hierarchical classification method was applied to cluster the spectral reflectance of those species of interest. Although the panchromatic band of IKONOS and CASI have the same spatial resolution, the study shown that CASI provided better performance than IKONOS in discriminating 20 tree species of interest. The finer spectral and spatial resolution of CASI significantly improved the quantitative discrimination ability. Inversely, the IKONOS imagery was fail to digitally identify tree species. However, the study shows that both the IKONOS and CASI images are capable to be used to estimate the stand density. To get a better result of discriminating 20 species using CASI image, the number of bands hould be used more than eight bands. Otherwise, some "inseparable" class pairs could exist
Formulasi Kebijakan Pengelolaan Hutan bersama Masyarakat di Taman Nasional Gunung Ciremai

Model Persamaan Massa Karbon Akar Pohon dan Root-Shoot Ratio Massa Karbon
The case study was conducted in the area of Acacia mangium plantation at BKPH Parung Panjang, KPH Bogor. The objective of the study was to formulate equation models of tree root carbon mass and root to shoot carbon mass ratio of the plantation. It was found that carbon content in the parts of tree biomass (stems, branches, twigs, leaves, and roots) was different, in which the highest and the lowest carbon content was in the main stem of the tree and in the leaves, respectively. The main stem and leaves of tree accounted for 70% of tree biomass. The root-shoot ratio of root biomass to tree biomass above the ground and the root-shoot ratio of root biomass to main stem biomass was 0.1443 and 0.25771, respectively, in which 75% of tree carbon mass was in the main stem and roots of tree. It was also found that the root-shoot ratio of root carbon mass to tree carbon mass above the ground and the root-shoot ratio of root carbon mass to tree main stem carbon mass was 0.1442 and 0.2034, respectively. All allometric equation models of tree root carbon mass of A. mangium have a high goodness-of-fit as indicated by its high adjusted R2
Upgrading Wood-Based Industries: Harnessing the Social Network of Small-Scale Furniture Producers and Their Institutions
Furniture is a major export commodity in Indonesia with a total value of USD 1.96 million in 2007. Jepara District is one of the key location for wood furniture production with 15,271 furniture related business units employing 176,469 workers. However, inefficiencies and power imbalances throughout the furniture value chain have resulted in overharvesting and uneven distribution of gains among the industry’s actors. In contrast to price-setting international furniture retailers, small-scale producers enjoy the least value from their products. In order to increase added value and competitiveness, small-scale furniture producers have made efforts to upgrade by harnessing their social network and institutions. This paper describes small-scale furniture producers’ efforts to upgrade by utilising their social network and institutions in Jepara. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with members of the small-scale furniture producers’ association. The research provides insight into the nature of social networks and information flow and develops future scenarios to upgrade. The scenarios will not only benefit the furniture industry in Jepara, but may also be adopted for similar industries throughout Indonesia and the world, and potentially improve many people’s economies and livelihoods
