Persepsi Masyarakat Dayak Merap dan Punan tentang Pentingnya Hutan di Lansekap Hutan Tropis, Kabupaten Malinau, Kalimantan Timur
This study’s emphasis was on Dayak Merap and Punan people’s perception of the importance of forest. A participatory approach using scoring exercises was completed with seven forest-dwelling communities in the tropical landscape of Malinau, East Kalimantan. The findings suggest that unlogged forest was the most important land category for Dayak people. It provides for their livelihoods and well-being both directly and indirectly. ‘Forest’ has the heritage values and contains an abundance of valued and significant plants and animal. For the future, ‘forest’ is predicted to remain important for local people mainly for timber. Forests are exceptional in comparison with other land types in providing a wide range of highly valued goods and services, in most cases to a greater degree than other land types. In addition, the value of forests decreases less with apparent distances. However, logged forest is related as much less important, allowing us to consider improvements in forest management that might better protect local values
Nilai Ekonomi Total Hutan Kayu Putih: Kasus di Desa Piru, Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat, Provinsi Maluku
An undervaluation of melaleuca forest (MF) needs to be adressed since it affects a management of MF. Type of goods and services produced by MF were indentified. Their values were assessed using Forest Valuation tehniques such as market price and replacement cost methods and then used to determine the value of MF using total economic value (TEV) approach. The result showed that TEV of MF was aboutRp.1,6 million/ha/year (forest flow value). Water had the highest value ofRp.1,04 million/ha/year (or 66% of TEV) followed by leafs ofRp.0,4 million/ha/year(or 24% of TEV). The rest comprised of water, flora and fauna valueswas ofRp. 0,03 million/ha/year (or 1,6% of TEV). The value of MF was estimated about Rp.36 million/hectare (forest stock value)
Kajian Penggunaan Paclobutrazol terhadap Pertumbuhan Semai Agathis Loranthifolia (The Study of paclobutrazol on the growth of Agathis loranthifolia seedlings)
Paclobutrazol is one of hormone which able to inhibit the growth of tree seedling. This kind of hormone is usually used extensively in horticulture in stimulating flowering and enhancing fruiting. The objective of the research was to know the effect of paclobutrazol on the growth of Agathis loranthifolia seedlings during storage under different condition, in order to support seedling supply programs for forest establishment and rehabilitation. There were two factors of the trial i.e.) growth inhibitors (paclobutrazol, NaCl and aquadest) and 2) storage conditions (growth house, heavy shading and light shading). A complete randomized design with two factors and 3replication were used in this trial. The result of the research showed that the treatment of paclobutrazol to the seedlings stored at a green house gave an effect to the height and diameter growth of Agathis loranthifolia seedlings which were lower than those treated by NaCl and aquades. While paclobutrazol treated seedlings stored under light shading, gave higher value of seedling height and diameter than those stored under green house condition and heavy shading. The highest value of seedling survival Agathis loranthifolia achieved by paclobutrazol treated seedlings which were stored at the green house and under light shading. Field testing after 3 months plantation showed that paclobutrazol – treated seedlings and seedlings, stored under light shading gave a highest value of seedling survival (100%) and seedling quality index (0,095).Keywords : paclobutarazol hormone, seedling storage technique, recalcitrant seed, seedling survival, seedling quality index
Laju Dekomposisi dan Pelepasan Hara dari Serasah pada Dua Sub-Tipe Hutan Rawa Gambut di Kalimantan Tengah
Decomposition processes of litter in peat swamp forest in the upper catchment of the Sebangau River in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia were studied. Litterbags were sampled every six months from November 2000 to May 2002 and analyzed for total content of N, P, K, dan Ca. Litterbags was collected in three permanent study plots, 50 x 50 m, which were established in mixed swamp forest (MSF) and low pole forest (LPF). In each plot, 25 litterbags (25 sub-plot) were placed in forest floor. Every six months 12 litterbag samples were harvested from the study plots (MSF and LPF) and these were air dried, oven dried and weighed. Six litterbag samples were taken from hollows and other six samples from hummocks. Weight loss in both sub-tipe of forest, mixed swamp forest and low pole forest was fast in the first six months. Potassium was the fastest nutrient loss in the mixed swamp forest and low pole forest. Decomposition rate (k) in the mixed swamp forest and low pole forest are 0.396 yr -1 and 0.285 yr -1 respectively
Aggregation Methods for Assesing The Sustainability of Forest Management
Kelestarian pengelolaan hutan merupakan konsep yang samar dan kompleks, oleh karena itu tidak ada satupun alat ukur yang dapat mengukurnya secara jelas. Sertifikasi hutan digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk mengukur kelestarian pengelolaan hutan yang didasarkan atas kelestarianproduksi, ekologi dan sosial. Kriteria dan Indikator (C & I) untuk kelestarian hutan alam produksi dalam sistem sertifikasi di Indonesia (Lembaga Ekolabel Indonesia) menggunakan Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) sebagai alat dalam proses pengambilan keputusannya. AHP telah lama dikritisi, antara lain karena pendekatan kompensatori menggunakan modellinier additive utilitas untuk mengintegrasikan -nilai baku. Riset ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa beberapa metoda aggregasi nilai baku sebagai alternatif untuk menilai kelestarian pengelolaan hutan. Fuzzy AHP dan Rule Base (Fuzzy Reasoning Method) dipelajari sebagai metode untuk mengatasi kekurangmampuan AHP dalam menangani secara tepat peubah-peubah linguistik. Data hasil proses penilaian sertifikasi Unit Pengelolaan Hutan Labanan, Kalimantan Timur,Indonesia digunakan untuk menilai kelestarian pengelolaan hutan dengan tiga metode tersebut. Hasil Fuzzy AHP dibanding dengan Normal AHP menunjukkan hasil yeng lebih jelas dan sudah menampung ketidakpastian justifikasi ekspert yang tidak terdapat dalam Normal AHP. Metode Rule Base, yang sangat tergantung kepada pengetahuan dan pengalaman ekspertnya, memberikan hasil yang lebih berarti dan transparan dalam proses penilaian dibanding kedua metode lainnya, yaitu Normal AHP dan Fuzzy AHP.Keywords: SFM assessment, forest certification, fuzzy decision making, AHP, Fuzzy AHP, Fuzzy Rule Bas
Simulasi Pembagian Batang Sistem Kayu Pendek pada Penebangan Pembagian Batang Kayu Serat Jenis Mangium (Simulation of Shortwood Bucking System on Bucking Pulpwood of Mangium)
This paper presented results of simulation of shortwood bucking system on bucking pulpwood of mangium (Acacia mangium) at an industrial plantation forest in South Kalimantan. A set of logs bucking policy of short wood system, which was applied in the state owned company (Perum Perhutani), was used in the bucking simulation, which divided logs into large logs assortment (KBB), medium logs assortment (KBS), and small logs assortment (KBK). The KBB represented veneerlogs, KBS represented sawlogs, whereas KBK represented pulplogs. The result of the study indicated that application of bucking in varieties wood assortments resulted in a potential number of high quality logs of mangium. The results of the proposed logs bucking were 22% large logs, 54% medium logs and 24% small logs. In the other side, application of pulpwood bucking policy only resulted to 4.7% large logs, 64.2% medium logs and 23.3% small logs
Metode Perlakuan Pendahuluan untuk Penyimpanan Benih Melur pada Suhu Sangat Rendah (Pretreatment Method of Melur Seeds Storing at Extreme Low Temperature)
Cryopreservation is a method of long term storage in which an extremely low temperature of nitrogen liquid (-196 oC) being used to preserve seeds of recalcitrant characteristics. The study was aimed to determine the standard protocol of vitrivication in melur (Podocarpus neriifolius) seeds storing in various cryoprotectans. The use of sucrose PVS2 and DMSO as a cryoprotectan were employed to protect the regularly-desiccated seeds during preserving in liquid nitrogen for 1 hour. Evaluation was made on the viability by germinating the seeds in green house. Randomized completely design of 3 factors was used in this study. The results revealed that seed moisture content was 53% after being desiccated using vaccuum-desicator for 24 hours and showed more than 85% of germination, in average. Vitrivicated seeds in DMSO for 2 hours performed 66.67% germination. Meanwhile, seeds in sucrose and PVS2 for 1 hour reached of 53.33% and 25.33% of germination, respectively. Preservation in liquid nitrogen for 1 hour did not succeed to keep any treated seeds as there was no germination found during viability testing
Pembangunan Kelembagaan Pinjaman Dana Bergulir Hutan Rakyat
Community forest (hutan rakyat, HR) in Java and Madura Island has been rapidly increasing. During 2003–2010 period, the average increment of HR was 200,000 ha year-1. Due to that, Ministry of Forestry wants to expand the financing services not only to community forest plantation through revolving fund scheme called as PDB-HTR (outside Java), but also to the development of community forest through a revolving fund scheme called as PDB-HR (in Java). Expansion of this service is basically an institutional development effort means improvement of the rules of the game (i.e. credit scheme) and player of the game (organizations). Analysis on this paper is directed to provide input for the institutional development for PDB-HR by the use of 5 approaches to institutional development, and institutional analysis and development framework (IAD). The results showed that there was a need to improve PDB-HTR scheme, including the basis of loan calculation, credit rationing, the target group, the credit ceiling, and the payment system. Based on institutional perspective, some principles that should be followed to support the poor to access the credit were simplicity, accessibility, conformity, feasibility, sustainability, transparancy, supervisory, assisting and facilitating, and learning
Pemanfaatan Etnobotani dari Hutan Tropis Bengkulu sebagai Pestisida
Sumatra Island in Indonesia has a high potency of plants diversities. Traditional people have a local wisdom, like using plants extract for pest control which considered as an alternative technique that practical, economical, and environmentally safe. The aim of this study was to do inventory on pest control plants widely used by traditional people in the island. In order to analys the pest control efectivity of the plants, analysis on bioactivities of crude extracts on pest Spodoptera litura was done in invitro scale. The research was carried out in Rejang Lebong District, Bengkulu. Bioactivities test was done in Laboratory of Forest Protection, Palembang Forestry Research Institute. The results revealed as much as 25 species plants potential as biopesticide. Among these plants, 5 species used as fish poison, 17 species used as pesticide, 7 species used as rat poison, and 1 species used as nematode poison. Traditional people in Rejang Lebong District have a long history using these plants regularly to control some pests. Sitawar (Costus speciosus), puar kilat (Globba sp.), and legundi (Vitex trifolia) extracts affected mortalities and inhibitor S. litura development significantly
Analysis of Value Chain Governance: Scenarios to Develop Small-Scale Furniture Producers
Furniture industry had shown a long chain of production to consumption, from raw material producers (tree growers), semi-finished producers, finished product producers, and retailers to exporters. Jepara as a centre furniture industry in Indonesia incorporates around 15,000 business units and provide livelihoods to approximately 170,000 workers. This sector contributes about 27% of Jepara‘s people domestic income. Small and medium furniture enterprises (SMEs) have significant roles in the furniture industry as production structures are characterized by them. Power and information imbalance throughout the furniture value chain have resulted in problems of uneven distribution of gains among actors of the industry. SME furniture producers have experienced an unfair value added distribution. Hence, development of SMEs is important for strengthening the industry and expected to result in a portion of value added distribution to them. We are trying to develop scenarios for SME improvement in the furniture industry in Jepara by identifying their problems and implementing Value Chain Analysis (VCA). VCA is an approach to describe SME producer relations with other actors in the industry and the governance type of their relations. Data is collected by interviewing selected SMEs from the association of small scale producers in Jepara to get detailed maps of their value chain. The research will produce future scenarios and intervention points to improve small-scale producer sustainability and better value added distribution among furniture actors. The scenarios will not only benefit selected producers but also the furniture industry of Jepara, and can be adopted for similar industries throughout Indonesia and abroad.
