It establishes a series of time–frequency analysis methods and subsequently applies them to the layered site, slope, and earth-retaining wall. Further, it examines various cases and their solutions and shares the results of numerous shaking-table tests and numerical simulations. As such, it is a valuable resource for researchers and engineers in the fields of geotechnical engineering and anti-seismic engineering
Planetary Spacecraft Navigation
This book is based on my 50 years of experience in navigation of Earth entry vehicles, Minuteman ballistic missiles, and planetary spacecraft. At the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, I worked on the Mariner 6, Viking, Pioneer, Galileo, and Near Earth
Asteroid Rendezvous missions. At KinetX Inc. I worked on the MESSENGER
and New Horizons missions. In writing this book I have drawn on engineering
memoranda, conference papers, and publications I have written as well as many
notes that I have accumulated over many years. My purpose is to present a book
that will describe how navigation is done. The emphasis is on mathematics that
have been coded in computer programs used for mission operations. Therefore, the
derivations are given in detail since relatively little mathematics actually makes it
into operational software. The mathematics that do are generally straightforward,
but the programs are large and complex and must be virtually error free. In writing
this book, I have frequently checked the mathematics by looking at computer code
that I am confident is correct
High-Performance Computing of Big Data for Turbulence and Combustion
This book provides state-of-art information on high-accuracy scientific computing and its future prospects, as applicable to the broad areas of fluid mechanics and combustion, and across all speed regimes. Beginning with the concepts of space-time discretization and dispersion relation in numerical computing, the foundations are laid for the efficient solution of the Navier-Stokes equations, with special reference to prominent approaches such as LES, DES, and DNS. The basis of high-accuracy computing is rooted in the concept of stability, dispersion, and phase errors, which require the comprehensive analysis of discrete computing by rigorously applying error dynamics. In this context, high-order finite-difference and finite-volume methods are presented. Naturally, the coverage also includes fundamental notions of high-performance computing and advanced concepts on parallel computing, including their implementation in prospective exascale computers. Moreover, the book seeks to raise the bar beyond the pedagogical use of high-accuracy computing by addressing more complex physical scenarios, including turbulent combustion. Tools like proper orthogonal decomposition (POD), proper generalized decomposition (PGD), singular value decomposition (SVD), recursive POD, and high-order SVD in multi-parameter spaces are presented. Special attention is paid to bivariate and multivariate datasets in connection with various canonical flow and heat transfer cases. The book mainly addresses the needs of researchers and doctoral students in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and all applied disciplines including applied mathematics, offering these readers a unique resource

Construction Quality and the Economy
This book discusses the relationship between construction quality and the state of the Singapore national economy, and describes how construction quality is affected as contracting firms strategically manage issues relating to profitability and survivability during economic boom and bust cycles.
Adopting a three-pronged approach to explain the key issues, the book first explains the effect of the state of the Singapore national economy (boom or bust) on the construction quality delivered by contracting firms. Secondly, it explains how contracting firms respond to the performance of the national economy through their dynamic bidding strategies, leading to significant quality trade-offs in some instances, especially when there is imprecise market information. Thirdly, it recommends various strategic measures that key stakeholders and government policy-makers can take to circumvent the quality trade-off in the construction industry when faced with dynamic fluctuations in the performance of the national economy.
Although the book focuses on Singapore, it appeals to a global audience since countries worldwide (and their respective building-related stakeholders) face the same issues in terms of the time–cost–quality trade-off decision-making process involving the entire supply chain
— The Historical Association
— Casson
Energy Sector: A Systemic Analysis of Economy, Foreign Trade and Legal Regulations
This book is a comprehensive economic and legal study of the theoretical and practical aspects of the problems of increasing energy efficiency; self-motivation of energy saving by business entities within the framework of their corporate responsibility; regulatory mechanisms to stimulate energy conservation in the economy; civil-law regulation of foreign trade turnover of energy resources between economic entities of the Russian Federation and companies of member states of international integration associations – the CIS, EEMP, the EU and BRICS. It argues that technological energy saving plays a key role in reducing the energy intensity and increasing the energy efficiency of the economy, and substantiates the need for institutional support – including legal support for the participation of the Russian Federation – in various forms of international cooperation. Lastly, based on an analysis of current legislation, programs and recommendations, judicial and contractual practices, customs and trade procedures, it offers proposals for the developing, improving and unifying civil law regulation of obligations in the sphere of international trade in energy resources, as well as methodological recommendations for drafting foreign trade contracts in the energy sector
