    The Discourse of Beauty Faced by Sales Promotion Girl in The Curse of Beauty Novel

    This study aims to analyze the discourse of women's beauty and marginalization of women's beauty in the novel The Curse of Beauty by Indah Hanaco. This study uses a qualitative data analysis research method. This study uses critical discourse analysis by Sarah Mills to examine the beauty discourse that SPG faces in the story of the novel. The results show SPG became a tool to attract buyers' interests. the owners of capital have made the female body an important tool in every social and economic process, to provide the erotic appeal of products through the imaging of mass media. It means, women's bodies have been disciplined through the concept of beauty by the mass media. Thus, the female body represented in the SPG story experiences marginalization of women's beauty.     Formulasi Romance dalam Beauty Case Karya Icha Rahmanti: Kajian Sastra Feminis

    This study aims to reveal the formulation of romance in chick lit Beauty Case (2005), the second work of Icha Rahmanti after Cintapuccino (2004). The methodological approach used is the study of feminist literature and structural analysis methods. Because chick lit always discusses women, the theoretical foundation of this research must be linked to women's perspectives, includes the ideas of Radway, Modlesky, Gill and Herdierckerhoff who were used to explore the narrative aspects of romance formulation, which included plots, characterization, and point of view. The results show that (1) although chick lit is a romance subgenre, the novel Beauty Case storyline does not follow the normative narrative standard of romance because there are changing plots. However, the end of the novel follows the romance formulation, which ends happily; (2) the main female figure in the novel does not really make a search for true love, but rather searches for identity. In addition, the portrayal of male characters also does not follow the formulation of romance that has exemplary characters; (3) the storyteller in this novel is the first single person, the main female figure, with an intimate, subjective, and limited nature of storytelling, according to the formulation of romance

    This research is a study that focuses on aspects of human mentality in the form of extroverted personality types on child characters. The object of this study is a children's series novel entitled Little Ballerina and Hwaiting by Muthia Fadhilla Khairunnisa. This research is operated using a psychological study proposed by Carl Gustav Jung. The focus of this research is in the form of extroverted personality types of the main characters in the novels. Based on the focus of the study, the purpose of this research was to describe the extroverted personality type in the character of the child, namely the extroverted-minded, extroverted-feeling, extrovert-sensing, and extrovert-pioneer personality type. As a result of this research four personality types were found on the child character: on the extrovert-minded personality type, the objective minded child produced the idea; on extroverted feelings, children easily adapt; on a realistic and pleasant extrovert-sensing, child resulting from sensory stimulation; and on extrovert-pioneering personality types, fickle and creative children. This type of research is qualitative research and literary psychology as a research approach. The research data is collected using library research techniques. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analysis techniques and accompanied by in-depth interpretation

    Language politeness does not only occur in the society, but it also occurs in a close society that is family. Family is the smallest society. It is formed because of blood relationship and marriage like husband and wife. This study aims to describe politeness language between husband and wife in Banjar family. The method used in this study is descriptive method. To get qualitative descriptive, this study applies three steps, they are: providing the data, analysing the data, and presenting the result. The result shows that there are collision toward the principal politeness language of husband and wife utterance in Banjar family, collision toward 1) agreement maxim, 2) sympathy maxim, 3) approbation maxim, and 4) tact maxim. There are also politeness principal applies in husband and wife utterance, the application of 1) approbation maxim, 2) agreement maxim, 3) generosity maxim, and 4) sympathy maxim

    Dekonstruksi Superioritas Kulit Putih: Nilai Luhur Aborigin dalam The Track to Bralgu Karya Wongar

    This research aims to rewrite the paradigm of a superior invader and the inferior colonized using Derridian deconstruction in The Track to Bralgu, a novel by Streten Bozig Wongar. It examines the depictions of the Aborigine to identify the superiority paradigm that is represented on the characters’ description and reveals how the depiction of the characters in the story brings the idea of the superiority of the colonized toward the colonizer by deconstructing the White’s paradigm. A descriptive qualitative method is a method used and a postcolonial approach is applied to conduct the research. The results of the study show that (1) the qualities of the Aborigine people which show themselves not being inferior are tracking and living in the bush, taking care of human being, transforming from human form into an animal form, and honoring the corpse; (2) the qualities of the Aborigine which deconstruct White’s constructed paradigm are skillfulness, humanity, and faith; and (3) the Aborigine people have no intentions to be better than the White people, they just live the way they believe. By living the life the way they believe, it is proven that the Aborigine people do gain the paradigm of superiority in the period of colonization

    Kajian Modalitas dalam MoU Helsinki Nota Kesepahaman Damai antara NKRI dan GAM

    The purpose of this study is to find the modalities contained in the Helsinki MoU and the reasons for modalities with the most dominant percentage of emergence. The type of this research is qualitative with descriptive statistics. Data collection uses the method of listening with the note techniques. The data analysis method uses a combination of the method of aggregation and the equivalent method which refers to the Halliday LFS analysis model. The technique used is a technique of sorting direct elements or BUL techniques. The basic technique of the matching method used is the sorting determining element or PUP technique. The modalities that appear in the data are modalization and modulation. The coverage of modalities includes causality, appearance and range. Furthermore, the orientation of modalities is explicit and implicit. Modality is dominated by medium-level probability of 77.3%, high-level proposition of 11.8%, high-level trend of 4.5%, medium-level tendency of 2.7%, and necessity of high and middle level 1.8%. These percentages indicate that most of the action have not been carried out by the Indonesian government and GAM in resolving problems in Aceh

    This research aims to reveal the Dayak culture types which contained in the novel Batas and describe the existence of the culture with the conditions of modern society. This research uses a literary anthropological approach that encompasses tradition, customs, myths, and cultural events in past events. The literature study method is used to collect data. Source of data comes from Batas, while data is analyzed by descriptive analysis method.  The result of the analysis shows that Dayak culture in the novel Batas is a human life tool in the form of mandau and chopsticks; a livelihood in the form of farming and hunting; knowledge system in the form of shifting cultivation systems and preserving forests; social system in the form of custom fines and decapitaing; religious system in the form of spiritual animals, beliefs and Dayak devices; the language and literary system in the form of mantra.; and Dayak ethnic arts in the form of sound art and traditional musical instruments. Dayak culture has been eroded, but there is also a shift in value and meaning because it is no longer relevant to the condition of society today

    The topic discussed in this research is the love of suffering in “Зеркало (Zerkalo)†‘Mirror’ by Andrei Tarkovskiy. This paper is intended to identify the meaning of suffering that is displayed through the character of Maria and background of the place in film. The main theory used in this research is Roland Barthes's semiotic theory, denotation and connotation. The methods that being used in this research are expository, descriptive, and criticism. The result of this research, firstly, the character of Maria in “Зеркало (Zerkalo)†is a masochist figure. The way the Maria confronts suffering is interpreted as a form of Ñтрадание (stradanie) 'suffering' that must be enjoyed. The love of suffering is related to the concept of Ñмирение (smirene) 'humility' and Ñудьба (sud'ba) 'destiny' which characterizes masochism in Russia. Secondly, the background of place in this film is illustrated beautifully as if suffering should be glorified

    This research contains a comparative study on two printed drama scripts of Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalionâ€. Here, the discussion covers a study toward two scripts published in 1957 and 2000, in the perspective of philology that demonstrates both textology and codicology. The objective of this research is to reveal the variation of Pygmalion printed scripts published in those two different years, 1957 and 2000. Eventually, through the analysis conducted to those two scripts, it is found that there are similarity and distinction, in which the distinction is in a form of variations between them, that also leads to the background of why such a variation could possibly be emerged
