    ROLE OF UTTARABASTI IN THE MANAGEMENT OF FEMALE INFERTILITY – EVIDENCE BASED CRITICAL REVIEW

    Female infertility is a major issue in the current era due to the growing number of incidences as a result ofcombination of various unwholesome environmental, social, psychological and nutritional factors. InAyurveda, vata is considered to be the root cause behind all the disorders related to female reproductive systemincluding female infertility. Uttarabasti is a unique therapy for the management of gynaecological disorders,wherein medicated oil or ghee is administered directly into the uterine cavity. The present review study isaimed to compile the different research works carried out in Streeroga and Prasutitantra department of IPGT &RA Jamnagar and to present them scientifically with regard to their effect on infertility caused by variousetiological factors. Analysis of data reveals that, about 13 research works have been carried out on femaleinfertility from 2001 to 2016 in the institute. About 11 different formulations are evaluated for their beneficialeffect on infertility caused by various factors like anovulation (5), tubal blockage (5), endometrial (2) andcervical factors (1). Six ghrita preparations like prajasthapana gana siddha ghrita, shamim ashvatta ghrita,brihat shatavari ghrita, go ghrita, phalakalyana ghrita, shatavari ghrita and six taila formulations such asshatavari taila, shatapushpa taila, mahanarayana taila, yavakshara taila, tila taila, apamarga kshara taila arefound to have significant effect clinically. These formulations can be effectively utilized by Ayurvedicgynecologists in the form of uttarabasti for the management of female infertility

    RAKTHA VARGA DRAVYAS AND THEIR UTILITY IN RASASHASTRA

    Rakta varga dravyas are that group of drugs of herbal, mineral, animal origin. The common characteristic found in all is that they possess red colour in common. The utility of these drugs as group in Rasa Shastra is mainly seen in Loha vada i.e transmutation of lower metals to higher metals. They are used in procedures of Parada samskaras like Ranjana samskara, Sarantaila vidhi, Garbhadruti nirmana,then in preparation of Musha and also in Shodhana/ purification of certain Rasa dravyas such as Sasyaka. The main purpose of their usage is to impart the red color to drugs/ instruments.Their usage as a group is limited, however they are used for different purposes individually. Most of the Rakta varga dravyas are herbal drugs and the color of these drug is due to the presence of pigments in them. Makshika and Laksha are two non-herbal drugs in this group. Makshika could be taken as the Swarna makshika bhasma / incinerated ash of Copper pyrite while there is an opinion that it could be madhu/ honey also. Laksha is the resin of animal origin. This article deals elaborately with the Rakta varga group of drugs, their detailed description, identification, uses and their importance in Rasa Shastra on scientific background

    The classical textual compendium Sahasrayoga explains a unique formulation –Brihat Madhusnuhi rasayana, under Lehya kalpana (lictus preparations). Madhusnihi- Smialx china being the prime drug of this recipe also possesses Guggulu and Gandhaka which are also appreciated well for their potent kushthaghna (skin disease pacifying medicaments), vranaropaka  (wound healing) and rasayana (rejuvinative) action.The formulation is widely used even today while during the treatment of arsha-bhagandara-vrana (haemorrhoids-fistula-ulcers) etc. The formulation is a well known recipe in the cure of the deadly diseases like non healing ulcers and syphilis, chronic degenerative arthritis etc. The formulation was prepared as per the classical method of lehya kalpana by taking the ingredients as referred in classical mentioning. The pharmaceutico-analytical findings of the test drug appear valuable in determining the quality of the drug and hence may be used as an important tool to establish its effective molecules in selective diseases too

    A Critical Appraisal of Yoga in the Management of Clinical Disturbance of the Circadian Rhythm

            Living organisms on the earth have evolved under the influence of a daily light and dark cycle. Exposure to the appropriate spectrum of light enhances human health and well being, immune response and productivity. This appropriate light exposure through the eye modifies ‘The Circadian Rhythm’ which is basically an approximately 24 hour internal clock that is running in the background of our brain coordinating between sleepiness and alertness at regular intervals. Nevertheless in the era of modernization humans have been facing complex health challenges. While prevention and treatment for infectious diseases have prolonged life span on one hand; on the other a stressful and exhaustive competitive world has ruined the quality of life leading to various lifestyles, psychosomatic and metabolic disorders eventually disrupting this circadian rhythm. Treating these disturbances in the circadian rhythm has been challenging as the modern pharmacological approach to disease management is unsatisfactory at times. Thus the present article to the possible extent describes the circadian rhythm and its clinical manifestations when it is disturbed. It peculiarly emphasizes on evaluation of the potential benefits of Yoga including current research findings and ways to integrate Yoga as a mainstream therapy to synchronize the clinical disturbances in the circadian rhythm

    AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF DIABETES MELLITUS: A CASE STUDY

    With the rising socioeconomic standards, Diabetes mellitus is becoming country’s fastest growing diseaseburden over 16 years to 2016. Acc. To WHO, India had 69.2 million people living with diabetes in 2015 and by 2030, nearly 98 million people in India may have type 2 diabetes. Scientists are still continuing to develop impr-oved treatment options to give people with diabetes the best possible quality of life. Recognising the potential ofayurveda for treating metabolic diseases, the present clinical study was done in which patient of diabetesMellitus was managed with ayurvedic formulations. The drugs were given in adequate doses for 3 months along-with pathya (SATH.2) ahara (SATH.1) vihara (dietary advice and day regimen)(SATJ.58). Follow up was doneafter every 1 month. The patient showed marked improvement with the ayurvedic drugs. So it was concluded that thedrugs selected have very good hypoglycemic activity so can be used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus

    Infertility is defined as the failure to conceive after a year of regular intercourse without contraception. Nowadays, the problem of infertility is becoming a great threat to human society. Globally, infertility incidence rate is about 15% which varies in different population. Infertility affects about 10% of Indian population. Causes of infertility lies on both male and female factors (40%-30%). In Ayurveda infertility refers to biological inability of couple in reproductive age to contribute to conception and also a state of women who is unable to carry pregnancy to fullterm. Infertility arises when shukradhatu does not get the proper nutrition which can happen due to unhealthy food habits and modern life style. Intake of junk foods, artificial colouring and flavouring agents, alcohol and other addictions etc. which may alter the digestion and metabolism and can lead to accumulation of toxins in the body. In Agada Tantra, sukrasankshaya, shanda, santhanadosha are considered as the main complications in the various concepts like dooshivisha, virudhaahara, garavisha, kritrimavisha, madatyaya etc. It is the need of the hour to interpret the relation between these concepts and infertility, hence an attempt has been made through this paper and also to think on the same lines when it comes to treating a case of infertility

    The oral cavity is prone for a countless of changes with the exposure to several kinds of factors like alcohol, tobacco andbetel nut consumption, environmental and lifestyle related factors in our day to day life. Oral mucosal lesions, Gingivitisand Periodontitis occur as a result of infections, local trauma or irritation, systemic diseases and excessive consumption oftobacco, betel nut and alcohol. Other etiologies like contact allergic stomatitis are with aromas and preservatives present indental preparations and food items according to the various study results. Inflammation is a local reactive change thatinvolves the release of antibacterial agents from nearby cells that defend the host against infection. It also facilitates earlytissue healing and repair. The Inflammatory process significantly affects the periodontium. Agada tantra is one branch ofAyurveda which deals with the management of various ill effects of visha (poison) ranging from Sthavar visha (plantpoison) to jangama visha (animal poison). Visha (poisoning) in any form to the oral cavity can be understood under thetopic Danta gata visha. In present day these chemicals can be considered as Gara Visha (poison) and visha chikitsa can beapplied to these entities. Hence, this article is an attempt to appraise the drugs and procedures explained for Danta GataVisha (toxins induced oro-dental diseases)

    Background: Amavata ais a most commonest disorder seen in middle age people which affects both sexcharacterized by Angamarda (Body pain), Aruchi (loss of taste), Trishna (Thirst), Alasya (Lack of enthusiasm),Gaurava (Heaviness), Klama (Tiredness without doing work), Apaka (Indigestion) and fever. In later stage painmay begin to migrate from place to place with a Vriskchikadamshovata vedana (Intense pain). The disease“Amavata” can be co-related with Rheumatoid Arthitis. It is an autoimmune disease that cause chronicinflammation of joints mainly peripheral joints associated with varied constitutional symptoms and presence ofRheumatoid factor. Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of balaguducyadi basti and baluka swedana inthe case of amavata. Material and methods: In the present clinical study 30 patients suffering with Amvatawere selected randomly from OPD of Sree Baba Mastnath Ayurved College, Rohtak and divided into 2 groupswith 15 patients each ,administered with Valuka swedana followed by BalaguducyadiBasti for a period of 23days. The result of this study were found encouraging. By comparison Group B (BalukaSwedana followed byBasti therapy) showed better result than Balukaswedan (Group A) only. Conclusion: Amvata can be efficientlyand effectively managed with this said therapy and the complication can be prevented
