    Areolate grouper is kinds of fish that exploited by fisherman in Galesong Kota Village. This is causedthe decreased of it population and concerned to be extinct, therefore conservation is in efforts. This researchaims to find out some biological aspect of areolate grouper such as, sex ratio, gonad maturity level(GML),gonad maturity index(GMI), and first time size of mature gonad. This research held on March-May 2013 inGalesong Kota Village, Takalar Regency. Applied method in this reseach is Descriptive Method. Gonadobservation conducted morphologically. The results of the showed that morphological ratio between female,transition and male 8 : 1 : 9. GML I, III, IV, and IX dominant in March, GML II, VI, VII, VIII, X, and GML Vdominant in May. Highest GMI rate of female phase is on May, with GMI average 0,6600%, highest GMI phasetransition on April with GMI average 1,3619%, and highest GMI of male phase is on April with GMI average0,7709%. Areolate grouper size of female phase for the first time of mature gonad at length of 230 mm andweight of 223 gr and male phase at body length of 290 mm and weught of 284 gr.     This study aims to determine the character of the waves, bathymetry, currents and tidal in 2012 in East Kutai.Significant wave height derived from AVISO, satellite altimeter TOPEX/POSEIDON, Jason 1 and Jason 2.Water depth data obtained from the C-MAP Norway map with a scale of 1: 250,000. Monthly surface currentdata obtained from JODC. Ebb tidal predictions obtained from DISHIDROS Navy. Wave data processingmethod using the ODV and processed with Surfer 8. Bathymetry visualized in 3D and 2D using Surfer 8 andArcGIS 10. Distribution of surface currents visualized with Surfer 8 wherein the interpolation process previouslyperformed on each cell domain area and conducted breakline on the cell data is mainland. Results showed thatthe wave pattern follows the seasonal wind patterns. Waves in the sea around the waters off of East Kutai have aheight ranging from 0.45 - 0.66 meters. High waves occur in the east of the season (July - August) wheregeographically these waters open to the east. The depth of the water reaches > 100 m at a distance of 3 milesfrom the coast, where the exposure to a wider shallow coastal can be seen around the mouth of the GulfSangkulirang. Current velocity relatively strong in March flows ranged from 0.13 - 1.75 m/sec with an averageof 1.32 m/sec. Generally move in the direction of flow from north to south following the pattern-orientedmorphology North Makassar Straits - south.     STRUKTUR KOMUNITAS MANGROVEDI KABUPATEN MUNA

    Mangrove ecosystem in Muna Regency,includingKembarMaminasa village, has been started to be exploited bythe local community. Unfortunately information about mangrove status and their condition are still negligible.The result of this study is useful to provide basic information for sustainable management of mangroveecosystems. A study of mangrove community structure was conducted at the Tembe River inKembar Maminasavillage, from September to November 2013. Mangrove community structure was analyzed using non-metricmultidimensional scaling technique and Bray-Curtis cluster analysis, while the most contributed species todifference of fish community structure was analyzed using SIMPER (similarity of percentages) procedure. Thedifference between the community structure in three different substrates(muddy, mud-sandy, sand-muddy) wasanalyzed using ANOSIM. All the statistics analysis were carried out using PRIMER v6 software.The results ofthe study showed that there were seven species found in the Desa Kembar Maminasa and they tended todistribute differently among three different substrate, creating three slightly different zones of mangrove fromseaward to landward. The community structure of the mangrove trees were different among the three differentsubstrates. Similar results were found in community structure of mangrove saplings and mangrove seedlings.     Pengaruh Perbedaan Varietas Rumput Laut (Kappaphycus sp) dan Variasi Kedalaman Terhadap Pertumbuhan dan Produksi Rumput Laut Menggunakan Metode Budidaya “Top Down”

    The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of different types of Seaweed (Kappaphycus sp) and depth variation on the growth, production and carrageenan content of Seaweed using a top down cultivation method. Top down method combined the two methods of cultivation, the method of surface and off-bottom method. The types of Seaweed used were Kappaphycus alvarezii (Brown Maumere and Local Maumere) and Bali Seaweed (Kappaphycus striatum). This study was designed using a factorial experimental design, where is comprised of two factors: the types and water depth.  Parameters measured were daily growth rate, production and carrageenan content of Seaweeds.  The results showed that different types of Seaweed gave a significant effect (P<0.05) on daily growth rate and production of Seaweeds, however depth variation did not give a significant effect on daily growth rate and production of Seaweeds (P>0.05).  A combination of Seaweed types and depth variation did not give a significant effect on daily growth rate and production of Seaweeds (P>0.05). The highest carrageenan content was found in Local Seaweed (42.15%).  Brown Seaweed produced 40.59% of carrageenan content while Bali Seaweed produced 35.80%

    The aims of the research are to determine correlation between chlorophyll a distribution and oceanographyparameter at North Papua Waters dan to identify oceanography parameter which have strong correlation onchlorophyll a distribution especially on East Monsoon. The purpose of the research provide an information aboutthe pattern of chlorophyll a distribution and key oceanography paramater which most affected on chlorophyll aconcentration at the research site. Temperature and salinity were measured using CTD (Conductivity TemperatureDepth) Guildline-6000. Waters ample for measuring chemical paramater was done using Super Rosette Samplerthat have Niskin Bottle that submerge with the CTD. The result showed oceanography parameter affectedsignificantly on chlorophyll a concentration based on depth, chemical parameter.     Fertilization and larval development determine the coral population survivalof species, which has adifference characteristic of embryogenesis. This research wasaimed to compare the embryo and larvaldevelopment spawned in November 2011 in Grear Barrier Reef, Australia.Embryonic cellsdevelopment wereobserved in interval timesfrom one cell of egg tomulticellular stage (prawnchip), and larval developmentobserved from the prawnchip stageto the planulae.The results showed the development of embryos and larvaesignificantly differed between two species, i.e. embryos and larvae of Acropora millepora grew faster thanA.tenuis. The maximum size of planulae larvae of A. millepora (800-1000 μm) is biggerthan A. tenuis (650-900μm). Embryo and larvae development were different due to species variability, hence this reseach can beadapted for laboratory proccess of coral larvae nursery.     Blue Spotted Ray (Dasyatis kuhlii) as the demersal organisms has a lot of accumulation of pollutants in the water that settles to the bottom. This study was conducted to look at the liver tissue alteration of Blue Spotted Ray caused by contamination of mercury (Hg). Performed on 5 tanks. Tank A as a control, tank B with concentration 0.025  ppm,  tank  C  with  concentration  of  0.05  ppm,  tank  D  with concentration  0.1  ppm  and  tanks  E  with concentration  0.2  ppm.  The  result  is  alteration  on  the  liver  tissue  in  the  form  of  atrophy,  cloudy  swelling, vacuolization degeneration and even necrosis or death of liver tissue already. The alteration can reduce and eveneliminate the function of the liver as a toxin absorbent and can lead to death

    PENGGUNAAN INDEKS KONDISI KERANG HIJAU (Perna viridis) SEBAGAI BIOMARKER UNTUK MENDETEKSI PENGARUH PENGASAMAN LAUT TERHADAP TOKSISITAS LOGAM PB

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan indeks kondisi kerang hijau (Perna viridis) dalammendeteksi pengaruh pengasaman laut terhadap toksisitas logam Pb. Penelitian dilaksanakan di LaboratoriumPenangkaran dan Rehabilitasi Ekosistem Laut Fakultas Ilmu Kelautan dan Perikanan, Universitas Hasanuddin. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rancangan faktorial. Kerang hijau dengan ukuranpanjang 5-6 cm diberi perlakuan dengan paparan konsentrasi logam Pb 0 mg/l (kontrol), 0,008 mg/l, 0,08 mg/ldan 0,8 mg/l, pada kondisi pH (level asidifikasi) air media hidup yaitu 6,2, 7,7, 8,2. Pemaparan dilakukanselama 96 jam. Pengukuran indeks kondisi dilakukan dengan mengukur panjang, tinggi, lebar, berat dagingkering, dan volume ruang internal cangkang. Nilai indeks kondisi dianalisis dengan analisis varian desainfaktorial. Hasil analisis menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh signifikan konsentrasi logam Pb terhadap penurunannilai indeks kondisi kerang (p<0.05). Pengaruh logam Pb terjadi pada CI 1, CI 3 dan CI 4. Meskipun perlakuan pH tidak menunjukkan pengaruhnya terhadap indeks kondisi, tetapi secara statistik diketahui bahwa terdapat interaksi antara pH dan Pb dalam memengaruhi indeks kondisi C1 dan C3 (p<0,05). Hal ini menunjukkanperlakuan pH memunyai peran dalam toksisitas logam Pb terhadap penurunan nilai indeks kondisi kerang hijau.Kata kunci :Indeks kondisi, Biomarker, Logam Pb, Perna viridis, Penagasaman lau

    Ocean acidification afected marine organisms especially calcifying organisms, such as Halimeda sp. This study was conducted on June to September 2012 at laboratory of Research Center and Development for Marine, Coastal and Small Islands, Hasanuddin University. The aim of study  to determine the efect of acidic level on Calcium concentration and growth rate of calcifying macroalgae, Halimeda sp. The experiment design was used completely  random  design  with  three  treatments  and  three  replicates.  Analysis  variance  was  used  for  data analysis with advanced respon test. Tukey test was used to compare the diference between treatments. Water quality parameters were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there was a significant diference of pH treatments on calcium concentration an d growth rate of Halimeda sp. The highest calcium concentration was found  at pH 8. In  conclusion, increasing pH level of media disturbed the calcifying  process of Halimeda  sp especially at pH level of 6, while growth rate of Halimeda sp was not afected wit h the decreasing of pH

    ANALISIS KERAGAMAN GENETIK PADA IKAN KERAPU MACAN (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) YANG TAHAN TERHADAP PENYAKIT YANG DISEBABKAN BAKTERI Vibrio alginolyticus

    The research was purposed to analyse genetic similarity of tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) inorder to select grouper that was resistant to Vibrio alginolyticus. In this study, fish were challenged with Vibrioalginolyticus and genetic similarity was examined by a PCR-RAPD method. Eight RAPD primers were used forPCR-RAPD analysis. The results showed that only three primers of RAPD primer (YNZ-22, UBC-456, danUBC-457) generated high number of RAPD fragments. The resistant group of tiger groupers generated higherpolymorph RAPD fragments than the susceptible groups. RAPD primer YNZ-22 and UBC-457 generated 82 %and 71 % of RAPD polymorph fragments from resistant group of fish and 71% and 60 % from susceptiblegroups, respectively. Primer YNZ-22 is a best genetic marker to analyse genetic similarity of tiger groupersproduced specific marker ranging from 1,2-2,0 kb. Genetic distances between the population of resistant fishand population of susceptible fish was 0.5091 and between individual of the resistant fish and susceptible fishwas 0.7032.
