This study analyzes the factors influencing gambier productivity, analyzes the technical efficiency of gambier farming, and analyzes the factors affecting gambier farming's technical efficiency. This research was conducted in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, a gambier production center in West Sumatra. Data were analyzed using the Cobb Douglas stochastic frontier production function. The results showed that the factors that significantly influenced gambier's productivity were labor, NPK fertilizer, plant age, number of trees, varieties, and technology. The number of labor, fertilizer factor, plant age, number of trees, and seedling varieties had a positive effect on gambier productivity. In contrast, NPK fertilizer and technology had a negative impact on gambier productivity. The technical efficiency level of gambier farming started from 0.25 to 0.99 with an average level of 0.76. It means that farmers are technically efficient but can still increase gambier productivity if they use production inputs appropriately and adequately. Factors that significantly influence technical efficiency are age, farming experience, and technology. Older farmers will have a higher level of technical efficiency compared to young age. The lower the farming experience, the more technically efficient the farmer is. Farmers who use the hydraulic jack system technology are more efficient than farmers who use the jack system technolog

This study has been conceived with the basic objective to investigate the role played by industries in the East Godavari River Estuarine Ecosystem (EGREE) region to reduce the level of industrial pollution and other eco-friendly initiatives taken for eco-friendly and sustainable development. Effluent treatment systems prevalent in the majority of the studied industries are in working conditions. 57% of industries' effluent treatment plants are working conditions, 29% of the industries are using landing filling methods for disposal of agro-based waste. There is a strong common understanding among the EGREE region industries to lower the CO2 footprint by substituting coal consumption with bio-fuel. In some companies like ITC, biofuel consumption is 80%, and the remaining 20% is Coal. Government and policymakers have to make provision for industrial waste disposal, especially for small and medium enterprises (SME).  Waste transporting cost is high for SME. Effluent treatment plant (ETP) and sewage treatment plant (STP) conditions to be verified by the pollution control board periodicall

Saline intrusion (SI) is causing serious risks for agriculture and coastal life in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Maintaining agricultural production under that challenging condition places more tremendous pressure on rural societies. This study aimed to get insight into adaptive adaptation's forms and factors influencing farmers' participation process by applying the social and ecological approach. The research was conducted in An Bien district, Kien Giang province, a province in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. A mixed-method integrating quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data using key informant panel interviews, group discussion, and household survey. The results showed that local farmers had changed the farming system from double rice crops to shrimp-rice models to deal with the impacts of SI. Group response has emerged as the appropriate adaption in both formal and informal forms. The adaptive group plays an essential role in connecting community members, and two forms of adaptation have worked closely to adapt to SI. Factors affecting the informal group related to relatives, households living close to each other; For the formal group, the main factor affecting participation is when joining the group, the members receive benefits from the group. Besides, prestige and having a lot of experience in the leader's production activities affect the official group participation. In addition to the positive factors, two negative factors affect group adaptation: unfavorable farm location and distrus

This study aimed to analyze changes in household consumption patterns in rural and urban areas due to price changes in the rice commodity. The data sources used were the 2016 National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS). Household food consumption data were grouped into ten food groups, while respondent households were grouped into four household groups, i.e., rich urban, poor urban, rich rural, and poor rural groups. The research methodology used was QUAIDS and Elasticity. The results showed that the characteristics of the four household groups on the variable number of household members and the age of the household head had almost the same average. However, the household heads were different in the variable of education length. The longest education was in the rich urban group, while the least was in the poor rural group. Likewise, the highest average income was the rich urban group, and the lowest was the poor rural group. As for commodities, the poor areas share that were greater than the rich ones are rice, other carbohydrates, fat, fruits, spices, and other ingredients. In contrast, the larger commodities in rich areas than in poor areas were meat, eggs-milk-and beans, vegetables, cigarettes, and prepared foods. Of the four commodity groups, the highest share was cigarettes and prepared foods, greater in rich areas than in poor areas, both for urban and rural areas. For the rice commodity, the household group with the highest share was the poor rural group of 0.23, while the smallest was the rich urban group of 0.103

    Get PDF
The Ministry of Agriculture has implemented the Rice Farming Insurance (RFI) Program in Indonesia since 2015 to protect farmers from possible loss of crop failure due to various potential disasters such as floods, drought, pests, etc. Although it has been immensely encouraged by the relevant field agencies, this RFI program was unsuccessful. The land area that follows the RFI program in Tanah Datar District decreased significantly from 1,061 Ha (2016) to about 150 Ha (2017), of the total target area of 2,300 Ha. This study is conducted to find factors that lead to decreased farmer participation in this RFI program, mainly by studying how the government has done the socialization process and how farmers' actual attitude towards this RFI program? By applying qualitative and quantitative approaches, this study obtained the empirical facts that the socialization process, done by relevant stakeholders, including government, private and community leaders, and farmers, not so intensified. The attitude of farmers to this program showed that, in the cognitive aspects, most farmers in all five categories still do not fully understand and confident about the RFI program. It is similar to their affective elements; most farmers in the five categories have not yet determined attitudes, whether they like or dislike the RFI program. Meanwhile, only in terms of their conative aspects, mostly farmers of all categories are eager to learn more and become the RFI program participant.Â
