Landscape Transformations (1987–2022): Analyzing Spatial Changes Driven by Mining Activities in Ayapel, Colombia
Gold mining is an activity that has developed in Colombia due to the great
availability of mineral resources geographically distributed throughout the territory. The
extraction techniques used are linked to the domain of illegality and to armed actors who
have generated notable landscape impacts. This study, focused on the Municipality of
Ayapel, Colombia, identifies the landscape units and analyzes the changes in land use
and cover resulting from gold mining between the years 1987, 2002, and 2022, applying
the CORINE Land Cover methodology, an adapted legend for Colombia, using Landsat
satellite images. For this, the recognition of the physical geographical characteristics
of the area was carried out in order to group homogeneous landscape units through
a cartographic overlay of various layers of information, considering variables such as
topography, geomorphology, and lithology. This research identifies a total of 16 landscape
units, 8 of which were intervened in 1987, mainly associated with denudational hills.
However, in 2022, 13 landscape units were intervened, with a considerable increase in the
affected area. Particularly noteworthy is the occupation of landscape units associated with
alluvial valleys, with an average of more than 30% of their total area. This demonstrates that
they are the most attractive and vulnerable areas for mining exploitation, as they are the
zones with the greatest potential for hosting mineral deposits. This impact has worsened
over the last decade due to the introduction of other extraction techniques with machinery
(dredges, dragon boats, backhoes, and bulldozers) that generate higher productive and
economic yields but, at the same time, cause deep environmental liabilities due to the
lack of administrative controls. The changes in extraction techniques, the increase in the
international price of the commodity, and the absence of government attention have been
the breeding ground that has driven gold mining activity
Juggling Balls and Mathematics: An Ethnomathematical Exploration
Ethnomathematics, as a field of study, promotes recognizing the diversity in ways
of thinking and doing mathematics, challenging the hierarchies and exclusions typical of
traditional mathematics education. This research explores the practice of juggling, specifically
analyzing three-ball juggling sequences to uncover the mathematical structures and
patterns embedded in this ancient art form. In a social association during a workshop, two
jugglers and seven juggling learners interact with one of the researchers, a mathematics
educator, to co-construct a shared model establishing a symmetrical dialogue based on the
Alangui’s principles of “mutual interrogation” between the practice of juggling and the
domain of mathematics. The knowledge exchange process is envisioned as a “barter” where
both the mathematics educator and the jugglers contribute their unique perspectives to generate
new and hybrid understandings. With a qualitative approach, from the analysis of the
data collected during the ethnographic field work (notes, audiovisual recordings) emerges
how the initial model, created by mathematicians and jugglers, was reinterpreted to better
align with the cultural community’s practice. The research revealed that juggling serves
as a concrete context for exploring abstract mathematical concepts and that mathematical
analysis of juggling sequences helps jugglers gain a deeper understanding of underlying
structures, enhancing their creativity. The hybrid model developed in this study offers a
promising resource to integrating ethnomathematical perspectives into formal mathematics

A moderated mediation model of despotic leadership and knowledge sabotage behavior
Our paper develops and tests a moderated mediation model of despotic leadership (DL) and knowledge sabotage behavior (KSB). The model assesses: (a) the link between DL and KSB; (b) emotional dissonance as a mediator between DL and KSB; (c) willpower and waypower as the two moderators of the effect of DL on the aforesaid undesirable outcome; and (d) willpower and waypower as the two moderators of the effect of DL on KSB via emotional dissonance. To gauge these relationships, we used time-lagged data obtained from hotel frontline employees. Most of the hypothesized associations are supported, and the model we proposed is viable. Managers’ DL heightens employees’ KSBs, and emotional dissonance mediates this link. FLEs’ waypower reduces the detrimental effect of DL on KSB. Waypower also mitigates the deleterious effect of DL on the said outcome via emotional dissonance

Semi-supervised constrained clustering: an in-depth overview, ranked taxonomy and future research directions

Universidad de Granada/CBUA.Clustering is a well-known unsupervised machine learning approach capable of automatically grouping discrete sets of instances with similar characteristics. Constrained clustering is a semi-supervised extension to this process that can be used when expert knowledge is available to indicate constraints that can be exploited. Well-known examples of such constraints are must-link (indicating that two instances belong to the same group) and cannot-link (two instances definitely do not belong together). The research area of constrained clustering has grown significantly over the years with a large variety of new algorithms and more advanced types of constraints being proposed. However, no unifying overview is available to easily understand the wide variety of available methods, constraints and benchmarks. To remedy this, this study presents in-detail the background of constrained clustering and provides a novel ranked taxonomy of the types of constraints that can be used in constrained clustering. In addition, it focuses on the instance-level pairwise constraints, and gives an overview of its applications and its historical context. Finally, it presents a statistical analysis covering 315 constrained clustering methods, categorizes them according to their features, and provides a ranking score indicating which methods have the most potential based on their popularity and validation quality. Futuros de la educación: una revisión de la literatura
La definición de posibles escenarios de futuro para la educación permite establecer vías de desarrollo y mejora a la vista tanto de los “futuros deseables” como de aquellas otras imágenes que no representen un futuro deseable. En este sentido, la literatura científica ofrece indicaciones acerca de esos posibles futuros y cómo construirlos. La intención de este documento es localizar textos dentro de la producción científica más reciente que nos permitan conocer esos posibles escenarios de futuro para la educación. Con este objetivo se han revisado las bases de datos de publicaciones científicas Web of Science y Scopus y se han analizado los documentos obtenidos. Narrative mechanisms of subalternity in the contemporary family autonovel
En este trabajo analizamos las autonovelas familiares como vehículos de historias silenciadas, donde el sujeto narrado está en una posición de subalternidad (Gramsci, Spivak). Desde un abordaje doble de este concepto (memorias subterráneas y antibiografías), nos interesa estudiar el modo en el que los autores se enfrentan a su propio sentido de la subalternidad: desde qué historias eligen hasta cómo extraen la información de las huellas documentales y cómo la (re)presentan en el texto. Para ello, analizaremos Los rojos de ultramar (2004) de Jordi Soler, dos capítulos independientes de Los extraños (2014) de Vicente Valero, West End (2020) de José Morella y Memoria del frío (2021) de Miguel Martínez del Arco.In this work, the analysis focuses on family autonovels as vehicles for silenced stories, where the narrated subject occupies a position of subalternity (Gramsci, Spivak). Through a dual approach to this concept (subterranean memories and antibiographies), the study aims to examine how authors face their own sense of subalternity, including their selection of stories, extraction of information from documentary traces, and (re)presentation within the text.
