Universidad de Granada/CBUAIf α ∈ R, an α-stationary surface in Euclidean space is a surface whose mean curvature H satisfies H ( p) = α| p| −2〈ν, p〉, p ∈ . These surfaces generalize in dimension two a classical family of curves studied by Euler which are critical points of the moment of inertia of planar curves. In this paper we establish, via inversions, a one-to-one correspondence between α-stationary surfaces and −(α + 4)-stationary surfaces. In particular, there is a correspondence between −4-stationary surfaces and minimal surfaces. Using this duality we give some results of uniqueness of −4-stationary surfaces and we solve the Börling problem.MINECO/MICINN/FEDER PID2023-150727NB-I00MCINN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/CEX2020-001105-M CEX2020-001105-MUniversidad de Granada/CBU

The high-temperature limit of the SM(EFT)

We derive the one-loop efective 3-dimensional Lagrangian that describes the high-temperature limit of the electroweak theory, to order O(g 6 ) in coupling constants g, including corrections due to Matsubara modes of both fermionic and bosonic degrees of freedom. We clarify certain aspects of the gauge-independence of physical parameters. We also extend the calculation to the Standard Model efective feld theory, paving the way, in particular, for a precise study of the electroweak phase transition within this framework.MCIN/AEI - ERDF (PID2021-128396NB-I00, PID2022-139466NBC22)Junta de Andalucía (FQM 101, P21-00199)Consejería de Universidad, Investigación e Innovación, Gobierno de España y Unión Europea — NextGenerationEU (AST22 6.5, CNS2022-136024)RyC program (RYC2019-027155-I)Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (EXC 2121 “Quantum Universe” — 390833306, 491245950

Perinatal Ethanol Exposure Induces Astrogliosis and Decreases GRP55/PEA-Mediated Neuroprotection in Hippocampal Astrocytes of the 3×Tg Alzheimer’s Animal Model

    No full text
Prenatal ethanol exposure (PEE) alters fetal brain development, potentially increasing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) later in life. Although glial activation is implicated in AD pathology via cannabinoid and neuroinflammatory signaling, its potential response to PEE in the developing brain and its contribution to AD pathogenesis remain unknown. Using 3×Tg-AD offspring of both sexes born to mothers with PEE, we analyzed astrogliosis, inflammatory markers, and key components of cannabinoid and Ca2+ signaling in primary cultures of hippocampal astrocytes, elements whose dysfunction contributes to neurodegeneration. Our results indicated that PEE increased astrogliosis/inflammatory response (significant elevation of Gfap and Tnfα expression) in hippocampal astrocytes at birth. This neuroinflammation was significantly associated with lower expression of cannabinoid receptors (Cnr1 and Gpr55), and decreased concentrations of the anti-inflammatory lipid PEA in the culture medium, probably due to a deregulated endocannabinoid enzymatic machinery (NAPE-PLD/FAAH ratio). This research provides insights into GRP55/PEA-mediated signaling as a potential hippocampal astrocytic mechanism influenced by maternal ethanol exposure, which may contribute to neurobiological changes associated with increased vulnerability to AD-related pathology.MCIU / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033 / FSE+ (RYC2023-044921-I)Ministerio de Sanidad – Delegación del Gobierno para el Plan Nacional sobre Drogas (2020/048)Consejería de Universidad, Investigación e Innovación – Junta de Andalucía (PI21/00291)Sistema Nacional de Salud / EU–ERDF / ISCIII (iPFIS predoctoral contract IFI21/00024)Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) – Unión Europea (CD24/00124)ISCIII – Plataforma ISCIII de Dinamización e Innovación del SNS (PT23/00082)ISCIII – Proyectos de Desarrollo Tecnológico (DTS22/00021)Junta de Andalucía – Proyectos Tractores (P18-TP-5194

MEDIotWALL: Securing Smart Healthcare Environments Through IoT Firewalls

    No full text
IoT technology is transforming the healthcare industry through what is known as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), enhancing patient care while simultaneously reducing costs. Nevertheless, it introduces critical security challenges, particularly the risk of jeopardizing patient safety. Existing IoMT security solutions, often limited to proprietary platforms or generic IoT firewalls, frequently lack transparency, scalability, and awareness with clinical regulations. To address these gaps, we present MEDIotWALL, a customized two-tier security architecture tailored for healthcare environments. The system integrates distributed real-time traffic monitoring with AI-driven rule generation, delivering a non-intrusive, centralized, human-supervised, and regulation-aware security framework. Experimental results demonstrate the cost-efficiency and effectiveness of the approach, ensuring robust medical protection while preserving authentication, confidentiality, and integrity of the environment

The Influence of Gender and Institution on the Construction of an Intercultural and Inclusive Music Education

    No full text
This study analyzes students’ perceptions of cultural diversity in music education in the south of Spain and the northern region of the African continent, specifically in Andalusia, Ceuta, and Melilla—territories characterized by significant cultural and linguistic heterogeneity. Music, understood as a universal pedagogical tool, is approached as a strategic resource to promote educational inclusion and the development of intercultural competencies. The main objective was to examine the influence of gender, type of educational institution, and attendance at conservatories and/or music schools on students’ perceptions of intercultural inclusion in musical contexts. The sample consisted of 645 students aged between 11 and 54 years (M = 13.86; SD = 3.90), enrolled in primary schools, secondary schools, and professional and higher conservatories. Regarding gender, 55.2% identified as female, 43.6% as male, and 1.2% as non-binary. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 28). After verifying non-normality through the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, nonparametric tests (Mann–Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis H) were applied to the variables of gender, type of institution, and attendance at conservatories and/or music schools. The results show that female students tend to express more favorable perceptions regarding equality in musical ability and intercultural learning. Furthermore, students attending Conservatories and Primary Schools exhibit more positive perceptions than those in Secondary Schools. Attendance at conservatories enhances perceptions of equality in musical ability, though it does not necessarily improve intercultural relations or conflict resolution. In conclusion, the research confirms the potential of music as a vehicle for educational inclusion and the development of intercultural competencies, highlighting the need for inclusive and critical pedagogical approaches that respond to students’ cultural diversity.Unit of Excellence of the Melilla University Campus (Ref.: UCE-PP2024-02

Physical activity as an adjuvant strategy to pharmacological treatment of glaucoma

    No full text
Introduction: Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, and the only proven effective treatment is the reduction and stabilization of intraocular pressure (IOP). However, modifiable lifestyle factors, such as physical activity, may play a complementary role in its management. Evidence suggests that different types of exercise can modulate both intraocular pressure and ocular perfusion pressure (OPP), although the mechanisms involved and the specific response in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) have not been fully clarified. In the absence of evidence-based specific guidelines, this thesis explores the impact of physical exercise as a complementary strategy to pharmacological treatment for glaucoma. Objective: To provide evidence-based guidelines on the most effective training strategies to improve physical fitness without compromising—and potentially improving—ocular health in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. Specifically, the aims are: (i) to synthesize existing evidence and generate practical recommendations for exercise and eye care professionals; (ii) to analyze the acute responses of intraocular pressure and ocular perfusion pressure during low-intensity endurance exercise; (iii) to assess the influence of dynamic resistance exercise on intraocular and ocular perfusion pressure; and (iv) to study the response of intraocular and ocular perfusion pressure to isometric resistance exercises considering the intensity of the effort. Methods: To address these objectives, the thesis comprises four studies: a narrative literature review and three randomized crossover experimental studies. The first phase consisted of a patient-centered clinical review, synthesizing available evidence on the effects of physical exercise on intraocular pressure. In the endurance exercise study, 21 POAG patients and 17 controls performed 400-meter walking trials at different paces (slow/fast), with and without external loads, to assess their impact on IOP and OPP. In the dynamic resistance study, IOP and OPP responses were measured during leg extension and biceps curl exercises performed at low and moderate intensities in 26 POAG patients and 18 controls. The isometric resistance study included 25 POAG patients and 19 controls, analyzing IOP and OPP behavior during isometric contractions of the biceps curl and mid-thigh pull at different intensities. Results: The review demonstrated that low-to-moderate intensity endurance exercise can acutely reduce IOP, whereas resistance exercises tend to increase it. POAG patients showed stable IOP behavior while walking at both slow and fast paces, while OPP increased after walking, particularly at faster speeds. Our data showed a progressive increase in IOP throughout the sets of leg extension and biceps curl exercises performed at moderate intensity, with POAG patients exhibiting a significantly smaller IOP rise compared to controls, and no significant differences in OPP. Isometric resistance exercises caused a progressive IOP increase that returned rapidly to baseline post-exercise, along with a slight post-exercise increase in OPP. The IOP increase during the mid-thigh pull at moderate intensity was significantly lower in POAG patients compared to the control group. Conclusion: The findings of this thesis support the use of physical exercise as a safe and potentially beneficial complementary strategy in the management of glaucoma. Low-intensity endurance exercise appears to be particularly safe, while resistance training—especially isometric—should be carefully prescribed based on intensity and individual patient profiles. This thesis provides a valuable scientific foundation for the development of clinical guidelines for exercise prescription in patients with glaucoma.

Deep Feature Selection of Meteorological Variables for LSTM-Based PV Power Forecasting in High-Dimensional Time-Series Data

    No full text
Accurate photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting is essential for grid integration, particularly in maritime climates with dynamic weather patterns. This study addresses high-dimensional meteorological data challenges by systematically evaluating 32 variables across four categories (solar irradiance, temperature, atmospheric, hydrometeorological) for day-ahead PV forecasting using long short-term memory (LSTM) networks. Using six years of data from a 350 kWp solar farm in Scotland, we compare satellite-derived data and local weather station measurements. Surprisingly, downward thermal infrared flux—capturing persistent atmospheric moisture and cloud properties in maritime climates—emerged as the most influential predictor despite low correlation (1.93%). When paired with precipitation data, this two-variable combination achieved 99.81% R2 , outperforming complex multivariable models. Satellite data consistently surpassed ground measurements, with 9 of the top 10 predictors being satellite derived. Our approach reduces model complexity while improving forecasting accuracy, providing practical solutions for energy systems
